  • What is the literal meaning of the word Christmas?
    Christmas is the celebration of Christ’s birth. More than 1,000 years ago the celebration of Christmas was referred to as “Christ’s Mass” (or Cristes-messe in Old English) for the first time.
    Christmas = “Christ’s Mass”
    Mass is the name of the liturgy in the Church. Because people went to church for the Mass in celebration of Christ’s birth, the holiday started to be called Christ’s Mass and later shortened to “Christmas.”
    The “X” in “X-mas” refers to the first letter of Christ in Greek “X” or “Chi,” although many people prefer the fully written word Christmas to make it clear that the day is about Christ.
    The other names for Christmas including Nativity and Noel mean “birth” as in the “birth of Christ,” which we celebrate on Christmas Day.

      @@mariab.8987 god bless Maria. Christ was born during lambing season. March/April or September/October.
      The 25th December was ‘selected ‘ by Rome for the good cause of converting pagans to Christianity.
      In the bible I see no Xmas trees, no feast, Santa Claus.
      I do see the gift of Emmanuel and celebrate that humanity celebrate the birth of our Saviour Yeshua who came to take away the sins of the world. He was born as a gift from God ; but not on the day of the pagan mid winter feast.
      Ahh well I just thank Gid that He came through His Holy Spirit in the form of Yeshua Jesus - Emmanuel God with us
      Happy Xmas Maria 💕
