Everyone is writing off the AB's but fail to remember their forward pack and backline have been plagued with injuries and suspensions. They haven't come close to fielding a full strength side since their first game in Australia.
Against Italy, they are finally back to at least 95% full strength, except for de Groot who will be back for the QFs. The team selected is very dangerous, some high impact players will be coming on in that second half. Roigard, McKenzie, Whitelock, Lomax and Cane will prove to be to much for Italy.
I believe the AB's are going to come out and dominate, while putting a few teams on notice, showing the rest of the world that they are no joke.

Bok fan. Over the years watching the AB. I would say they are the best team at punishing mistakes. They score so many tries off a loose ball. It could be that the other teams just doesn't make that many mistakes anymore. Still not writing off the AB and before the RWC I thought they will reach the finals. Now it's 50/50 for me against Ireland. The only reason for that is the experience in the RWC they have. That for me counts a lot.

Our weakest position is the Coach and any team could turn up on the day. For instance, I felt we should have beaten France and then Foster subs off Mark Talea our star winger who just scored 2 tries. He doesn’t even have Damien McKenzie on the bench who is a impact player. Fozzie just makes strange decisions.

I think the quality of world rugby has lifted across the board. The ABs have lost their ascendancy in recent years because world rugby has worked incredibly hard to challenge them (and SA) at the top. Now it's far less certain they'll win all of their games, and they don't. But game by game you would find it hard to hear anyone right them off. And once they confirm their place in the quarter finals any team they face will take them very seriously. All teams deserve that kind of respect in todays rugby landscape, and it's very exciting for rugby fans and teams to feel confident about their chances going into any game. Can they win the tournament? Of course they can! C'mon the ABs!🖤

No.. World Rugby have slowed the game down to such a snails pace with the over zealous safety and card system and the technical pedantry of the officials that the fast running, aerobic and skills based game that suit NZ and Australia has ruined a beautiful game..
It now suits NH teams and SA who base their game around defense and Big aerobically unfit boofhead forwards who only need to play 40 mins of Rugby... Hence the 'BombSquad"...

Foster spoke about a “ perfect storm “ of bad luck after the SA game. Before leaving NZ for the World Cup, they lost Retallic and Frizel to injury then one of their first choice props in Lomax and Barrett’s red card. That’s 4 starting forwards! Injuries again hampered their opening game against France , with Cane and J Barrett out as well as his brother Scott with suspension. The ABs start their game against Italy with a fully recovered roster bar Degroot ( suspended). No excuses now, and surely “Luck” will favour the brave.

  • @noelburland7169
    @noelburland7169 Год назад +5

The All Blacks have always tried to play the game at pace, relying on scoring tries more than kicking penalties and drop goals. To achieve that they need quick ball at the breakdown, but lately when they come up against powerful forward packs like the Springboks and French, they have not been able to gain ascendancy there, which has allowed those opponents to dictate the pace of the game and win the territory battle.
It's funny here because by the end of the Rugby Championship there was a feeling that the team had turned a corner and were finally heading in the right direction. Then the wheels fell off with the record defeat to the Springboks at Twickenham and the first ever pool stage loss (against France) causing the levels of cynicism to rise again here. Some are even claiming that Italy are going to beat the ABs on the weekend, giving Ian Foster two more "firsts" to end his troubled tenure, a first loss to Italy and their first ever pool stage exit (like what's expected to happen to the Wallabies).
Edit: because the All Blacks lost to France and Ireland beat South Africa, that means that unless Scotland causes an upset by beating Ireland, the Irish will face the All Blacks in the Quarter Final and France will play South Africa.

Agree that the AB's are the sleeping giants coming in under the radar, this team which looks to be near full strength should put plenty on Italy. It's vastly different and IMO a much stronger and better balanced team compared to last year. If NZ get through that game and other results go as expected, they meet Ireland in the quarters. Since their last meeting, players have been changed, coaching personnel has changed, importantly with the inclusion of Joe Schmidt who knows this Irish squad better than most, I think they should be quietly confident of tipping the Irish out of the cup which will also silence all the critics. They will need to sort their discipline, cut down on the silly errors and get back to what they do best.

Italy are the unlucky unknown in the World Cup, they’ve not played a proper game yet. One would think the ABs will put 30+ on them.
People are quick to forget, the last team to beat Ireland was NZ. In that game the ref let the game flow and Ireland got pumped, the next 2 tests were refs that allowed the Irish forward slow the game to a crawl and they played a game vs an ABs with a red card.
The ABs losses this year be SA (red card) and France were heavily influenced by some average calls as well as poor unforced discipline.
*anyone that wants to call BS go watch the game NZ vs SA in Twikkers, 5 seconds (literally next ruck) after the “red card” Barrett clean out Vermeulen hits a player 3 times in the head. How the TMO misses that is a worry.
Vs France terrible no try for a non existent knock on and a penalty just before half against Talea when he was penalized for not releasing after stealing the ball from the French and that player had not released. (Go and check it, I have all the receipts).
If the ABs get those 50/50 calls. They can go all the way. Game momentum and calls that lead to cards that have even higher momentum shift are so influential when margins are small.
If the ABs get Barnes vs Ireland, then I’d be a worried Irish supporter.

Their game needs the correct conditions against the top 4 teams - dry track and referee that will be kind at break down and allow the game to flow. The Quarter Final against Ireland if it works out that way, NZ will be very highly motivated after what happened last year. If they happen to get passed the Irisb though, it can be very difficult to follow that up a week later after such a big, focused week. It's hard to get back to the same place mentally, when the task is different if that makes sense.

Im a fervent diehard all blacks fan and i think the answer is NO. I think a LOT of pundits and fans are just so unwilling to write off the POSSIBILITY of them doing something because of just how great the legacy is. It's just our legacy continuing to write cheques our current team can't cash unfortunately. Even when we win you see the same frailties show themselves. They are trying hard but the game plan and selection is fundamentally wrong. This decline is 4-6 years in the making which is how it's now gotten to where we are. This isn't a recent decline.
The set piece isn't going to improve because we lost our three best props to cards or cuts or knee injuries and its taken so long to repair the damage of a few years ago when steve hansen told all of our props to start becoming lean and more mobile or they wouldnt be picked. This ancient front row we've picked (minus Cody) has been past it's prime for a while and definitely are a class below Healy, furlong and porter. Confidence is also going to be hard with record defeats and bad records being broken. What would they base that confidence on? And when we don't get LQB we have no answers and we're trying to play a gameplan that hasn't 'clicked' since 2019 and crucially italy and ireland are looking for some of the same things as we are in the game. So there isn't a favourable style clash there necessarily either. We might best Italy and get a false sense of security but the last few years have shown us pretty definitely that there's a big gap between 1,2 and 3 and again before 4 and maybe 5. Were just not there unfortunately. No sour grapes the other teams are just SO good right now at their particular games (fair dinkum) while we are not as good at the particular game we have been trying to implement (this all out attack from anywhere and anyhow). Italy is going to beat us in the rucks and there will be parity in the scrums. We're missing cane who for all his bad press makes most of the ABs tackles and turnovers. Were vulnerable because of a dangerous interpretation of officiating we've gotten used to and we could get cards and penalties through poor technique via SB and others. We've definitely seen the ABs unwilling or unable to adapt to the ref and the rules in game or even between games or seasons (we'd rather change the rules than conform to the ref of the day). We're missing our best linout caller and our hardest worker on his special day in whitelock. Frizzel coming back is good but we needed his beef months ago and he's only one player. Dalton isn't looking at the rucks as he should he's looking for a good line break or run. Also I'm not convinced about Ardie as Captain. I think whitelock is a better captain and player right now just look at what he did for a coach he loved in the SR final. Lastly with the amount of talent we have in the squad i think we've pidgeon holed ourselves into persisting with a starting back three when those three in those positions are by no means clearly the best. Bring in Leicester, move Will. Beaudy off the bench. All they offer right now is a dinky little kick to will Jordan or Reiko running through which looks absolutely beautiful in full flight but hasn't happened successfully for a while now or a cross field kick that we wouldn't have earned the right to do yet.
When we've had a croissant and are back home we need a whole paradigm shift, a truly honest and open review of everything including philosophy, coaching, attitude to losing and beliefs (re: ball in play time and officiating and cards) (ban Jeff wilson from this process). Listen to keohanes comments about the abs recently (few times i agree with him) I appreciate everyone's nostalgia for them but when i look at my own team I'm not seeing it. I just hope we have a final worthy of the hype and the quality of the top three teams in this comp where we can all be satisfied at a good game of rugby even if my team isn't there. And i think we've already seen that game. I for one am hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

I actually think the opposite and the reason being, the rwc doesnt find the best team in the world, weve been that before and not won. The rwc finds the rwc winner. It includes a little luck, a bit of a spark and determination when others fail. Come time, we can get it done.

    • @dmazingi

@@Edgycoo fair enough. And you're right. But we're not playing a tournament style. That situation is what SA had in '19 we need a lot more to go our way for that to happen for us. And the biggest obstacle is an Irish team that's really buzzing right now really confident. But hey it wouldn't be the first time we've pulled off a successful grudge match Vs Ireland in the quarters. I also think what we call luck is really just a few simple things done right. What do you think of the specific other points I raised cos I think they come together to prevent any nice surprises in the horizon.

Unfortunately the ABs were too good for their own good. They dominated world rugby for over a hundred years and not by good luck. They achieved this through superior fitness, rugged determination and speed (something you can't coach). The only part of that equation still relevant is their determination. The game is now slower than it was, replay after replay after replay is killing the game as a spectacle, which suits the Northern hemisphere and South Africa, their games are all about power and the fitness and speed elements have been negated. The rules have been changed and rugby has suffered as a result, in terms of attracting the next generations fan base. In my humble opinion, rugby will be dead in 20 or 30 years. Do l think the All Blacks can win, yes absolutely, but they will need to be at their absolute best with luck thrown in for good measure.....up the ABs
