Hello everyone! today we bring back to life a very rare and unique watch longines ultra chron cal. 431 high beat 36,000 bph! ! ! The uniqueness is further emphasized by the 18ct solid gold case. the watch has a broken main spring and as it turned out, the central wheel is damaged !!! repair will continue

I have my Gt Grandaunts Longines 18ct ladies pocket watch c.1900 that I'm terrified to leave into any 'watchmaker' in Ireland to have a long overdue service done. With this craftsman and his skills, I would have no reservations in so doing. A joy to watch

I like longines very much too! I personally consider them to be one of the best watches / brand in the world in the 50-60-70. like here - ultra chron, you have to mention flagship and conquest. and what was the competition doing at that time? omega could compete. of course, we are talking about a similar price range, golden longines and omega are timeless elegance
@@Karol235 Thank you for reply!!! I agree with you about longines and I like omega watches too. I think the main competition at that time was to build a watch as thin and robust as possible and ofcourse to compite with quartz watches. But i think longines still has a unique way of design in today.

I own an Ultrachron of that vintage, 14K for me, really beautiful from the 60s. I've paid a fair bit to try to keep it running and recently had to send it into Longines. They had me send it to their US service center where they evaluated whether they had the necessary parts (in Switzerland) and they did so it went back year before last and came back about a year ago. It's very accurate but not hackable so hard to check.
Great service. I think a no-music video would be very cool! Much more relaxing, just listening the clicks of the tweezers picking up the many different pieces... thanks for sharing!

hello, there is always great satisfaction when the service goes well. and it is even greater satisfaction to see the joy of the owner. usually such a watch is a large piece of family history, it was once used by grandfather or dad and now it is a gift or an inheritance for a son / maybe a grandson and thanks to my work this story can be continued. it gives me great joy

The Ultra Chron was made from 1967 on. I just bought a 1967 Ultra chron, 18k gold, gorgeous spotless dial, great case and sooo accurate, in fact it looks brand new, I absolutely love it!

Last time I had it out it was around +1 or 2 a day.

Longines was head and shoulders above Rolex and Omega before the quartz crisis!

hello, theoretically you should not open the barrels because they are hermetic. the complete set of barrel main spring and barrel arbor should be replaced. but where to buy such a set ? after such an exchange, the parameters are not always perfect, but the watch works. some springs in such barrels were oil-free, lubrication of the spring slowed down the watch. generally 431 is hard on the service

So the barrel said "do not open".. was it hard to open and re-close after you'd replaced the mainspring? I've heard some "do not open" barrels from other manufacturers being folded over the cap making it very difficult. Was that the case here?
hello, you can open it normally, in theory it's very much. sealed, and some of them were without lubrication, and the lubrication slowed down the work very much. in theory, the whole set, spring and barrel should be replaced. there are great forces there and it guaranteed that no one would put a good spring into a worn out barrel and vice versa. but these are high costs. There are many theories. but this way you can open and close it normally, you just need to be careful not to destroy it. it was not creased, just tight fit
