I love how they incorporated Val Kilmer's real life struggle in this...😢
Val Kilmer (Iceman) the actor has throat cancer. He can longer speak.
It's amazing how much they were able to rely on practical effects in the movie and limit the CGI. The scenes with the actors in the jets are REAL. They are sitting in the backset of the 2 seat version of the F-18 and are literally undergoing the G-forces that are part of that type of flying. Also in the final scene where Mav/Penny fly off in the P-51 Mustang...that is Tom's P-51, and he is literally flying it. Has ratings in a number of different aircraft. Thanks for an excellent review.

Next you sholud watch the Last Samurai (2003) which is Tom Cruise best movie in my humble opinion.
Set him back 13 weeks. "Rooster" probably did the exact same thing I did. went to a 4 year college got a BA and then went to OCS. The only difference between the academy and a regular 4 year college is the academy is far more strict. "Mavrick" did "Rooster" a huge favor by making him have to go to a regular 4 year college. That set me back 4 years line is Hollywood not understanding how the military works.
Couldn’t Rooster do OCS after four years as an enlisted serviceman?
@@NocturnEternal He could after getting a 4 year degree. My first years in the navy was enlisted as a MA (Navy MP) before I finished my degree and went to OCS. Either way Academy (if he got through 4 years which is doubtful with his attitude) or 4 year civilian college and OCS he would have started flight school at roughly the exact same time.
@@CDRhammond didn't he only have the attitude *because* Maverick stopped his application tho?
@@DraconimLt That was just plot for the story. In reality Maverick would not have the authority to pull an applicant's application to the academy and even if he could I would call that a favor. Rooster did not have to attend one of the strictest schools there is in the US and would have gone to a civilian college instead.
That whole took 4 years off my career more Hollywood BS to keep the story going and give Rooster some sort of another reason to have issue with Maverick.
All aviators are commissioned officers which means they either are academy graduates which is a 4-year school or do what I did and went to a civilian 4-year college to get a Bachelor's degree followed by AOCS.
By not going to the academy, it took Rooster a whole extra 13 weeks to become a commissioned officer and head to flight school.
A good movie to watch that is about AOCS is an officer and a gentleman.

You said it was doubtful if he'd have got through the Academy with an attitude like that, I was just pointing out that he only had that attitude like that in the film, because Maverick pulled his papers in the film.
Had part of the plot not been that Maverick had set him back, then he wouldn't have had the attitude in the first place and thus wouldn't have had the problem you said he would at the academy. That was my point.

I am sad that you missed the sign changed from saying top men pilots to top men and women. It is rare for us to get credit so I am always thrilled when we do! The actor has throat cancer so they included that in the movie. 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤

I remember seeing Jennifer Connelly's film debut in Segio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in America" in 1984 at one of the last big movie palaces in San Francisco. It makes me happy to see that a young person like yourself is a fan hers.

North Island is where the office of the CNAF is located but the real TOPGUN is located in a completely different state from CA. The school today is located at NAS Fallon NV.

Saw _Top Gun_ in it's first run, nostalgia, especially with the same "overture" (see _Star Wars_) and the fact that I've got 5 months on Cruise. 'Talk to me, Goose.' also chills.

The military was paid to do the real flying in this film with specialty mounted cameras. That is Val Kilmer (Ice Man) speaking, but they had to digitally clear it up his voice to make it easier to understand. Nice reactions to the Top Gun sequel, Ola!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
