Renato Canuto fought as if it was a freestyle wrestling push out rule in play. Nicky had a good back take and seemed to be working more for most of the match he was getting open hand slapped a lot. knowing Nicky didn't have an acl and could not train for two weeks makes it more impressive.
Can't believe Nicky did this match without an ACL. Also interesting how Renato complained about Nicky being slippery since Gordon also complained about Nicky Rod possibly greasing...

So smart by Renato. I believe he had this in mind all along, or atleast once he figured Nicky's plan and capacities. Boring match, but a very nice out tactic by Renato IMO.
It’s more about him wrestling inefficiently and waisting energy faking shots that aren’t at all threatening. Every high level coach will teach you that staying in your stance is the most efficient. Yes, it takes practice to build up your quads and lower back, but coming up and down out of your stance is a low level mistake. Despite myself and all of my collegiate teammates being high level high school wrestlers, my collegiate coaches corrected our stances the first week of practice. All of us (despite most being state champions) bounced around too much and stood up and down in the stance too much. Watch high level wrestlers and they stay super solid. Nick Lee from Penn State is a good modern day experience of someone with a rock solid stance and how effective fundamentals are at the highest levels of competition. I did a breakdown of that on my channel to show that’s how he gassed Eierman in the NCAA finals. It’s subtle for those who haven’t wrestled at that level, but you can see it if you study the breakdown. That was the best strategy against Eierman, because he’s so frickin athletic and funky. Same thing happened here. Renato had a better stance and Nicky was forcing it. Once he got tired, then he had nothing left to defend something he is more than capable of defending. Everyone is capable of gassing. No amount of training can prevent it. I also think Nicky wanted this too bad and his adrenaline and isometric flex (stiff all over) just gassed him. May have been better to pull guard just before the second 5 mins started, since he wouldn’t be penalized for pulling guard within the first 5mins in a preliminary round
@@shannonmuse9859 lol! Yup!! But I doubt he was on Tren. It would be foolish to use tren as a grappler. Plus, he said a few days leading up to competition that he “holds on to water.” That’s a side effect of dbol or halotestin. Both of those are notoriously used in this type of competition. Dbol was incredibly abused by powerlifters in the day (there’s an interesting documentary on this from the Bulgarian lifting team) as it is used as a robust preworkout (has strong androgenic properties that drive motor cortex to exert more effort on muscle force). Tren use results in a dry look. Nicky definitely doesn’t have that look. He has the puffy dbol or halotestin look
Implementing stalling rules for one... then implement rules for submission attempts. In grappling, points SHOULD matter for take downs, the amplitude of takedowns, pinning or controlling in a dominate position, secured sub attempts, reversing & pinning out of a dominant position, etc. They get to run from eachother, sit in guard, pull guard without it leading directly into a sweep or sub attempt. It's ridiculous.
It annoys me when I roll with someone in no gi whose taken their top off. It’s almost as if they are trying to use their slipperiness to their advantage. As a result I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some correlation between people who grease and those who roll with without any rash guard.
There’s a reason Nicky lives in his bothers shadow. No disrespect though, Nicky is a fantastic player and competitor. But this match felt like watching soccer. 🤮
The crazy thing, if points counted the entire match, Nicky would’ve had two, and could’ve just accepted the takedown to tie the match and go into overtime instead of going to turtle and having his back get taken.
Stalling rules need to be implemented. If you back up, you get penalized. If you all want no Gi BJJ to be watchable for more people, maje the competitors engage eachother.
Look i understand there's technique in the stand up in regards to head control and positioning etc, but fuck i hate matches like this where basically nothing happens apart from maybe 30 seconds worth on the ground. Sigh.
I wish the Ryan brothers would make up and train together. Nicky could learn alot from his big bro and Gordon could get satisfaction of helping his little bro.
Nicky Ryan stalking this guy around the ring the first of the fight looks like an angry father chasing some kid around a parking lot who disrespected his daughter....😆🔫
exciting? we watched two grown men push each other for 9 minutes 45 seconds, then a take down and back take. they need to force them to the ground after 2 minutes of no take downs, what we just watched isnt jiu jitsu
He left for reasons that only he knows why. Maybe the psychological healing of being out from under his brother is a greater win than losing this one fight.
B Team guys work hard, but the juice is more responsible for Nicky's thiccness than the weight room. Saw their camera guy start juicing, he looked better beforehand. Juice makes guys poof out and look funny, old-school fitness led to a wiry body, not poofy. Like the way that pro climber dominated in that grip strength competition pound for pound, strength is not just anabolic muscle changes, neuromuscular engagement and tendon strength matter a lot. That takes time, rushing it takes a toll on body composition and longevity. We'll probably perfect performance enhancing stuff in the future, but it's primitive as hell right now, consequences abound.
Can we get some regulation on juicing... can we get everyone on the same levels... a lot of these mofos are taking way above the recommended juicing protocols haahah
It's got to suck when you can't train cardio because your ACL is too far gone and then you compete and you can't pace yourself right and you get all gassed out and your opponent is jabbing your neck with his hand to frustrate you even more. How's the referee not going to call that?
