About Skate 2:
Skate 2 is a skateboarding video game developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts. The game was released worldwide in January 2009 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 after the spin-off title Skate It. It is the sequel to 2007's Skate and the third installment in the Skate series overall.
Set in the fictional city of San Vanelona, the single-player career mode follows a skateboarder released from jail five years after being arrested in the first game, Skate, who is tasked with popularising skateboarding in the city again after devastating earthquakes, avoiding security guards hired by the company "Mongocorp" who have bought most of the city's property. Players create their own character and perform tricks such as ollies and grabs to earn points. Tricks can be used to complete challenges, such as racing and trick contests, which earn the player money that can be used to buy clothes and property or bet on events. Up to four players can play against each other in the local multiplayer "party play" mode, and an online multiplayer mode allows players to connect to games over the internet and take part in various competitive or cooperative activities.
Plans for a new Skate game were announced on February 12, 2008, with EA Games' president Frank Gibeau stating that sales of the first game had "greatly exceeded" his expectations. Skate 2 was announced in May 2008. The executive producer of the game, Scott Blackwood, stated that EA Black Box had given the player the ability to do "a lot more" while staying true to the "authentic feel" of the Flickit control scheme. Developers noted New San Vanelona's architectural similarities with Barcelona, San Francisco and Vancouver. A demo for the game was released for Xbox 360 on January 8, 2009 and for PlayStation 3 on January 15, 2009.
The third main game in the series, titled Skate 3, was released in May 2010.

best skate game. perfect blend of realism and over the top action. skate 1 was too limited, skate 3 was too unrealistic…but skate 2 was perfect

Skate 2 will always be ny favorite EA Skate game. The aesthetic is peak and it feels so good to cruise around
my only beef was that it's only on earlier systems and when my ps3 crashed it lost all the data. So it lost all my records, replays stats the whole nine.
apart from that still an unbeatable game. if only it came out instead of XL I probably wouldn't be playing session.
@@PurpleDrac That's tragic :( My biggest gripe is mostly a side effect of age, I can't get the Filmer Pack anymore (on ps3) and my replays suffer for it lol
skate 2 is the best
The nostalgia glasses aren’t the only reason I remember Skate 2 being a peak gaming experience! The spots, the customization, the graphics, the vibe, the personality! Made a huge impact on me, especially as a young kid just getting into gaming at the time. There were only a few hiccups on PS3 like big drops in frame rate from the Hall-Of-Meat pop up when bailing and slightly clunky movement, but for the time it was revolutionary! I would always go to free play to get rid of the hall of meat frame rate drops. Played so smooth. Thanks for revisiting!
Skate 2 is so nostalgic to me is definitely my favourite in the EA skate series. Please keep the Skate 2 videos coming!
when you said it came out in 2009 i felt like a grandpa for half a second. I can't believe it came out when I was a freshman in high school.
Best Skate game that was made!!! Best map, not as arcadey as Skate 3, and had all the necessary improvements from Skate 1 to make it top tier!
Easily the best ever but unfortunately
for me, it wasn't a next gen game. I had to get a new playstation back when it was overheating and lost everything had to replay everything then lost it again but haven't had a single issue with ps4. As for skate not sure what this spells for skate four as you had just now but the third one is arcadey hoping that might simmer down in the next one. We'll see!
@@PurpleDrac I agree Skate 3 is too arcadey. The new Skate game coming out can be arcadey but I just hope they give us some ways to adjust difficulty/realism if we want a more Skate 2 feel

Because of this game i buyed an xbox 360 in 2009 and now i have ONE S with this game backwards compatible ... I still play it when I come home from skating.
@@marekberec564 i bought a cheap 360 last summer just for this, it doesn't run amazing tho, do u have little frame drops and stuff in the backwards compat ?
I played Skate 3 a lot and haven’t played 2 yet but the world looks amazing in 2. Huge fan of City/Street style of skating.

It works nice on a regular xbox one so probably pretty buttery tbh. I think one of the dudes i know from hippy flipping plays on a series and likes it.
Forgot to say, it runs smoother on xb1 than it ever did on 360

@@juanchotpee2 Now I've bought a Series X and a physical copy of Skate 2 👌 It runs smooth, and it's really fun. But it's basically the same resolution as it was back in the 360-days. So a bit janky but with good framerate. I think Skate 3 looks better, resolution-wise, but I like Skate 2 more. Also, I can't get the DLCs to work.. Can recommend tho!

Man i always consider getting an xbox series s just to play this game again for months this was the best skate game the map, the mechanics that you need to remove the things on rails and even empty pools the secret creature park or the moster energy park everything was amazing

Wack because when skate 2 was first announced that it was BC I was able to get it on Microsoft store so I could play on series s. Now it says not available for purchase

Seeing the case for the game at the start makes me sad they are making the new one free to play.. We need physical media to stay relevant. I just want to have a physical copy of the new Skate. 😭😭😭

The color palette in this game seems very curious to me and in my opinion the physics are a little more superior than those of skate 3 because when the fall ends, everything does not remain rigid until it reaches the point of being in a vegetative state.

If only skate 2 had hardcore mode like skate 3 it would easily be the best the graphics and environment looked so much better. So many games get undeserved remasters but if they would remaster this i would be first in line!

Lately I have been replaying older games. First I started with AC then played AC2 the a little bit of Star Wars revenge of the sith.
Then I started playing skate 1. I beat that like 3 times then bought skate 2 and been playing that. I started with the spots and beat all 22 then beat the all of the death races. Then I beat a bunch of other stuff. I just passed the mission Dunk Slam and was surprised how easy it was for me. I seen RUclipsrs saying that mission was complicated but I beat it easily without cheesy it with the blue ramp.
I have a few complaints about the game but that mission ain’t one.
My biggest complaint is the lack of flatline tricks while in a manual.
Another complaint is how the customization is not as good as the Tony Hawk games.
I don’t think I liked any of the skateboards in this game. I ended up picking Alien warehouse because of Rob & Big Black.
I did somewhat like Creature brand but I noticed the Vamp guy was already using the board I liked.
Anyway I definitely recommend these games. They definitely hold up very well. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact these games are only like 7.5 Gb.
I think when I play Skate 3 I will skate for Blind as I seen Jason Lee made an appearance in the game.
As you mentioned the frame rates are an issue. I didn’t notice any delays in Skate 1 but while playing skate 2 I occasionally had major delays but it didn’t happen all of the time so I ain’t complaining about it. Though it makes me curious to see what 120fps would look like.
I have high hopes for Skate 4. Though I don’t have WiFi so it’s going to be disappointing if I can’t play offline but nonetheless I am sure it will be an amazing game. As I mentioned earlier I don’t like the customization in skate 2 so I hope I can make my skater look good in skate 4.

Man they really need to release these games on the PS5 pass or something. They have so many ps2 and ps3 games. I honestly don’t want to pay $180 bucks for another ps3 and more games and controllers. Risking that the ps3 might stop working, I can’t trust these private sellers lol
Just finished refurbishing a ps3 phat. Want to get a skate game. Man oh man....totally able to see how difficult it must have been to understand ps3 architecture for game development. Especially for smaller studios. It looks BARELY above ps2 grade. Of course the draw distance is better and they tried to make it look better with lots and lots of post processing but, to me, that only makes it look even worse(urine filter). I get how this is better than 3 but my eyes are telling me NO!!!

I think it's evident they skimped on the budget when it comes to assets and textures. Skate 2 is much more dense with features. 3 is just empty, and the texture detail is worse.

Skate 2 was perfect. Skate 3 too arcady. Skate 1 was the most realistic but skate 2 had the most freedom, better map, better story and features. Imo
