His playing was better too imo, lot more refined and more thoughtful than it is now. Obviously he is a great guitarist but I have to be honest I get bored listening to his playing today. His old stuff still hits hard
I will always say this: early yngwie riffage is criminally underrated. Everyone focus (rightfully so) on his lead playing, but those first two albums riffs are bangers after bangers. Excellent playing too in this vid.
In recent years I think he forgot his guitar has a volume knob. I love how he used to turn it down a little and had full control over the amount of distortion. Very emotive. Now it's full blast and damn the torpedoes. Of course, he's got his fans that love that too, but I wish he'd be less compressed and chaotic than he is nowadays. We'll see what his new album is like coming this summer. The song he pre-released sounds like more of the same, but at least the production has improved.
@@KarstenJohansson I saw yngwie play twice this year and he is actually better now than ever... I felt that what he had lost over the years he has back in two fold now. Unreal feel and more natural than ever..
Indeed, I played these songs over and over as a teenager in the 80's... Recognized those small details that makes all the difference.. Great interpretation!
If you take the first record and then listen to anything after alchemy, it's really hard to believe that it's the same guy. Marching out and trilogy still have a lot of that brilliant playing. The other albums afterwards had pretty decent songwriting. After alchemy it went downhill both in the writing department as well as his playing. And now it's just sad really
@@tonypaella Agreed. I lost interest at Eclipse where it started to feel like pretty much the same album with the same licks being released over and over. This old stuff is still his best and always will be I'd say
Song titled after a girlfriend of his. The first solo in this little masterpiece is I think the best he ever written. It was at a tie when Yngwie didn't know that more is more but that less is more. I wished he could pull the break on his playing on the albums after Eclipse. After that it went mayhem. He kept it together on Alcatraz songs and his three first solo albums.
I have met a few who try to play Yngvie. Only person I ever met that played as well, was a kid named Brian Carroll in 9th grade. Brian actually got to play Mr Malmsteens guitar at the NAMN show in 85'-86'. Brian is Buckethead. Sir that was very inspiring!!!
I'm impressed with the level of detail, many guitarists like to improvise on top of Malmsteen's compositions, but you really excel at the smallest details, and that's what I was looking for in the hundreds of Malmsteen covers I've watched. Congratulations!!! In my opinion you are the number one in taking Malmsteen songs exactly as in the recording!!! I just subscribed to your channel, do you have "Now Your Ships are Burned" ? A master hug!!!
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it. Correct, I try to pay attention to details. You are the second person this week to request "ships", I'll have to move it higher up on my future video list.
@@ClassicSoloSpotlight Now Your Ships are Burned is one of my favorite Malmsteen songs, I can't wait to see your absolutely perfect and phenomenal cover!!!
This song has it all, great composition, complex but beautiful, fast and melodic. You nailed it note by note so precisely. Thank for making this great cover❤❤❤
Great job. You understand when to do a quick, subtle slide up to a note to start a section. So many clones out there start on the note and miss these small details that are important - AND so simple. Drives me crazy.
From 0000 till 0142 .. it's Al DiMeola 100% .. absolutely amazing. Yngwie's 1st album is absolutely a killer. Al DiMeola's Elegant Gypsy from the mid 70s ( 76/77 ) is also a killer guitar album. Through the whole song there many Al DiMeola's influences. Your playing is indeed fanrastic, the expression, the tone, your feeling CONGRATS
Una maldita belleza, estaba muy deprimido hace unos meses cuando volví a escuchar está canción por el azar y volví a tocar la guitarra como nunca antes
From someone who listened to this weekly since 1986 (due to my father), I'm impressed with the precision of every detail. I don't think even Malmsteen can play this true to his own piece in this day and age.
Crack! You are a genius!
Grande Yngwie!
You've done an absolutely magnificent job! Congrats! You've paid full tribute to Yngwie. But, if I may say so, your cover highlights something amazing about Yngwie in the 1980s: he played at top speed, but he managed to be relaxed - a bit more so than you, if you agree. I don't know how he did it, but that's what made his playing so interesting - at that time at least.
Your statement is a bit broad, I can't really comment without any specifics. As a teacher I would say there is good and bad tension, just as there is good and bad relaxation. The context is everything
Absolutely totally and utterly amazing. Your playing and tone is spot on and respectful too. Back in the day when he played with amazing clear tone and not drenched in echo and reverb. His and your playing is something to behold . He had so much to say in his first three solo albums. More please
Holy shit!!
