    PAVN love M-46 so much that they go to great lengths to not only maintain their current stock, prioritize them for SPG project but also domestically manufactured 130mm shells and propellant.

    Wonder how it fits in between operationally.

      Back when it was made it was purely built for range as it had greater range than the old 152mm guns. Now though new propellants and base bleed shells allow for significant increased range from 152/155mm guns

    • @Pilvenuga
      @Pilvenuga 2 месяца назад

      it looks as though it takes just as long to setup/get moving as 152/155 guns, just cheaper with less range. a solid piece, but so is the Mk 4 Lee Enfield.

      The main Soviet plan for WW3 was to use them as a specialty army (NATO corps equivalent)-level force, for counter-battery fire to take out the other side's artillery using their very long range, sort of like the US planned for MLRS. For the most part, though, they were used as general artillery.

      All jokes about the wretched bollywood aside.
      It is basically a artillery parade drill for , especially for generals. And journos, the attempt is to show army is always Methodical or something.
      You see , indian army has inherited lots of its traditions and rituals from colonial british indian army.
      They did this for 25 pounders, now they do for 155 mm and 130 mm guns on artillery demonstration day, at artillery regiment centre in devlali Maharashtra in india.
      Its done once a year only for camera.
      In general they fire very fast.

    130 mm artillery is obsolete. Modern ammunition for 122mm guns has reached the lower range of the 130mm gun. And artillery in 155mm caliber has all the benefits of 130mm artillery and 155mm shells have a longer range.
    So M-46 guns should be converted to 155mm L39 caliber and that's it.
    In this way, logistical problems are eased, and the effect is better. Conversion from 130mm to 155mm would be cheaper than buying new guns.
    Those same cannons need to be lifted onto the trucks that towed them, and you will get modern self-propelled artillery from towing antiquated artillery.

    • @cdgncgn
      @cdgncgn Месяц назад

      which 122 mm is long range ? L39 155 is obsoleted by L45 and L52, though I wonder about their barrel service life. So large stocks of 130 mm from soviet times should be thrown away, because somebody says they are obsolete. Yes, put the guns on trucks and make the guns impossible to use outside of trucks. And in case you start to escalate because you cant counter, first start repeating its them NK stealth Ninjas for a month and then claim your escalation is based on that tale you just made up. Iraqi WMDs. Except that replacement for Iraq for the US showed you their new mid-range missile, and has actual WMDs, but you dont care, because everybody else who didnt have WMDs surrendered after US threatened them. 130 mm is still rather medium arty compared to 152/5. 203 is still in use and if nee be there can be larger, if missiles dont do better.

      They were definitely artillery centric during the war and knew they didn’t want to compete with nato for air superiority so invested heavily in artillery and anti aircraft. They still had an air force to use in insurgencies or wars against small countries with limited air power of course
