#GNI_per_capita (formerly GNP per capita) is the gross national income, converted to U.S. dollars using the World Bank Atlas method, divided by the midyear population. GNI is the sum of value added by all resident producers plus any product taxes (less subsidies) not included in the valuation of output plus net receipts of primary income (compensation of employees and property income) from abroad. GNI, calculated in national currency, is usually converted to U.S. dollars at official exchange rates for comparisons across economies, although an alternative rate is used when the official exchange rate is judged to diverge by an exceptionally large margin from the rate actually applied in international transactions. To smooth fluctuations in prices and exchange rates, a special Atlas method of conversion is used by the World Bank. This applies a conversion factor that averages the exchange rate for a given year and the two preceding years, adjusted for differences in rates of inflation between the country, and through 2000, the G-5 countries (France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States). From 2001, these countries include the Euro area, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
@@readwrite1815 I would like to give you some facts. Pattaya has become a popular tourist destination of Thailand thanks to its former US military base, where the B52 started to drop bombs on South Vietnam. Subic City before becoming an important industrial center of the Philippines was once the largest military base of U.S. Army in the Western Pacific, from which the US Navy entered Vietnam. Khmer Rouge with the support of Chinese Army attacked and killed many people in Vietnam in 1979. The Chinese Army also made a war in 1979 that caused a lot of damage for Vietnam. China has also shook hand hands with the U.S. to embargo Vietnam in long time. You know how difficult a country will suffer under the embargo of U.S. Only in 2005, after the US lifted the embargo, Vietnam's economy developed rapidly. Therefore, it can be said that, compared to other countries in the region, Vietnam has a very short peace time for development. Therefore, I think Vietnam does not need a long time of 50 years to catch up with other countries, but it will be much shorter, about 30 years. What do you think?
GNI per Capita is a good indicator performing living standard of a given country. It is much better than GDP per Capita as subtracting the product values produced by foreigner inside the country. Some countries with high GDP per Capita but their GNI per Capita is much lower because alot of product values relies on FDI sectors.

Vietnam is slowly improving its position
Yes, but stiil poor and less developped. It must take at least 50 years for VN to catch up with other major ASEAN members.

And some countries with low GDP per capita but higher GNI capita because they use capital to invest abroad and get back profit.
Such a good explanation.
Like Japan, Qatar, Norway,....
