Great tips. Thanks! Another thing that I also use to automate in buildups is a transient shaper on the leads. As moving to the drop, reducing the leads transient creates the effect of "going to the back", and together with automating the reverb creates a quite powerful effect.
Great tips! I do find myself not adhering to some of these principles while composing sometimes, and it's such a relief when you finally realize that you're just missing automation or need to dampen the lead :D
Great video! I made a tutorial about doing all this in FL a while ago, but a lot of people think they can just throw a snare buildup sample and a riser and call it a day! Things to automate: High pass Low Pass Reverb Pitch Stereo Image
This vid has great content, I like how you give suggestions on how to make more interesting sounds instead of being like 'this is how you do this, follow my process exactly'. Thanks my G
When should you do the master volume, reverb, stereo width etc. automation? Should you make automation in the project, or on the mixdown, or on the mastered track?
Hi Zen World, after years of considering it I finally purchased a DAW like four months ago (FL Studio birthday discound yay!). It's been quite frustrating in the beginning, getting used to plugins and overall how the DAW works and stuff so I didn't put in as much time as I thought I would. It's getting better, would still consider myself a total newb in this field. So my question is: do you think its better for beginners to start with their own diverse ideas and put them together in the DAW or would you recommend starting with some easy (rather lame) tracks and learn how to mix/master them properly before jumping into the harder (but in the end hopefully better sounding) stuff? By the way, I really enjoy your videos, especially the serum stuff (splice instalment plan ftw :D)
One of my songs had a small 909 kick that had its lowest frequency in the A key, the melody of the song was created in F minor. Does having the kick tuned different to the song melody matter?
yo dude, first of all your videos are fucking awesome, second of all, do you know where that lamp is from? I have a similar one but it was from craigslist and can't find that same vibe
Thanks for the great advice man🙏👌..... will send you one of my tracks for review 😁 I also checked out your article on how to get signed by a record label.... helped me a lot
Hey Zen World, thank you for this helpful Video! You are speaking to fast for my englisch skills, so i didn't get the 5th tip 😅 could you please explain it for me again?
Im not hateing on ur channel but i dont understand why people cant just make their own music without tutorials like these. It just doesnt make sense to me because its YOUR music and you should be able to make it how you want it but hey im not complaining about it as much as you think 😏 great work man!
Always use sub in your buildups. Do 4 automations in your build up , always, you can do more but those are preference. (On master channel) 1. Automate an eq, higpass filter, so all the low end gets filtered out. 2. Volume automate the master down like 5% or so, tocmale the drop sound bigger. 3. Automate reverb in the buildup. 4.make it go to more mono so when the deop hits its back to 100% stereo. If you like ad 5, LP filter to filter the higest freqs out in te build to give the drop "more" highend, thats ot guys.

What about dubstep build ups

a problem i seem to have with buildups is that they transition too quickly/suddenly into the drop >
