  • Harbor Freight Diesel Transfer Pump Review - 12V Transfer Pump
    When I shopped online this did not show up at Harbor Freight. But there it was on the shelf when I went to pick up the hand pump. And I'm glad for it!
    As with most Harbor Freight stuff, it's not quite complete. So this pump does not come with a suction hose. It does have the nipples and hose clamps. I bought this short piece at and auto parts store for a few dollars.
    Also the electrical connection is stupidly short. So I rigged up my jumper cables to get me the battery. I should absolutely run a permanent cable, but in the near future I don't plan to run the diesel tanks all that much so hopefully it won't really be necessary to rig this mess up all the time.
    Anyway, as for the pump, so far it's worked great. It has a few small leaks here and there, to the tune of a few drips, so nothing really problematic. Would I recommend to a friend? Absolutely!

    Just a heads up - The manual instructs you to cut a section off of the discharge pump hose to make your suction hose. So its not really left out.

      Huh. I never even noticed that. Good to know, but I'm glad I did not do that. In my case, I need all the discharge length I can get!

    If you mount a connector on it, you can just plug it into your trailer connection. Easier than opening the hood.

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  4 года назад

      Rick Thurlow that’s a good idea! Now days I tore the barrels around on a pallet on the tractor forks, and the battery is exposed right on the front of the tractor, so it works ok. I’d prefer something cleaner like a plug, but still want it universal to work in different situations. A few times I’ve powered it off the excavator batteries for example.

    a good idea is to cut off part of the 13 ft hose to make a suction hose. to straighten the rubber hose I placed a step ladder in front of my reddy heater, hung the hose over the ladder and let my reddy heater soften the hose. I tied some weights to each end of the hose so the hose would stretch as it heated up. this work rather well.

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  6 лет назад +4

      roy hoco guess I didn’t think to cut one hose to make another. But actually I’m happy I didn’t. I find I’m almost always stretching the hose to the limit to reach up on these machines.

      I made a PVC setup suction pipe , with a very short piece of hose + a 90 combination elbow to my 1/2" PVC pipe .. works great .. we were concerned the hose could collapse as we were going 6 feet down . Amazingly it did 7 feet easily .. took only seconds to prime .

  • @piercehorton6848

    The instructions say to cut the pipe in half, so it technically comes with suction pipe too

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  3 года назад

      Yeah technically. Very thin walled pipe that likes to coil and kink. Really I should have bought a solid PVC pipe and bushing adapter. Even my fuel line hose I bought still coils up a bit and won’t always stay on bottom

    Does it comes with the diesel flow meter to measure how much output it draw? and how many liters per minute does it draw?

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  5 лет назад +1

      No meters included. I believe it's rated at 10 gal/min, so I guess that would be like 38L/min or so.

    Did your pump come with the metal suction strainer as pictured on the website that looks smaller diameter? Mine I just got came with a plastic one it’s still a nice strainer but it won’t fit through the opening in my tank because it is to large.

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  2 года назад

      Convenience and durability perhaps. The electric pump is faster once it’s hooked up, but spend a lot of time dangling into cables and such to get it going. If you had a dedicated fueling skid with a battery then I’d go with an electric pump.

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  6 лет назад

      The suction hose? If it's warm it's more pliable. I think the ideal setup would be a rigid straight suction tube in the barrel with just short piece of flexible hose on top to the pump. That or make the suction hose longer so you can wrestle it to the bottom, or maybe find a way to weight it. But yes, mine does the same thing. Was just fighting with it this weekend. Thought my pump was not sucking but really the hose was curled 180 degrees in the barrel and above the fluid level. I realized this after reversing polarity and other annoying troubleshooting. DOH!

    • @rickysechrist1611
      @rickysechrist1611 5 лет назад +1

      Shaun Griffin add a section of metal pipe over the sucking hose and that should fix it or a brass fitting

      Perhaps. I’ve never intentionally put water through mine, though I did submerge one once on accident, and it actually still worked after.
