Boy oh Boy oh Boy! that brings back memories. When I drove it on May 1st, it was rainy and overcast on the Hilo side but once I hit the high spot, the rain stopped and the clouds cleared. It is a beautiful drive with all the cinder cones and views of the mountains and ocean. Isn't it amazing that a stupid little bug can cause all the focus problems? But it still was a lovely drive. Mahalo for the memories.
My first trip over Saddle Road was in 1978 when it was nothing by busted-up blacktop. The rental car contract forbid taking the car on the road because it was narrow and in very poor shape. Somehow I missed that prohibition until it was too late (yeah, right). The rest stop near the training ground is new since the last time I took Saddle Road in 2016, a very welcome addition. Thanks for taking us along, Scott.

Beautiful drive and scenery today. Cinder cones are so impressive. Lovely ocean view from Costco. 80F. Would be lovely.
What an amazing improvement over the old Saddle Road! It was quite an adventure! 😳
It was the adventure, for sure.
