I have both of these, great for traveling. But yes quite pricey. I agree with all you said about them. Very tricky to open. They need a way to carry tubes of beads.
Sandy Luther If you know how to sew. You can take 1" wide elastic and cut it to about 2-3" longer than double the length of the Bead Buddy. Fold the strip of elastic in half and sew lines across the elastic that are spaced so that bead tubes will fit in between each place you sewed along the strip of elastic. Then just use heavy duty glue and glue both ends to either end of one half of the bead buddy lengthwise. (it's kinda hard to explain in writting but hopefully you understand what i'm talking about)
hmm I like the idea but flipping ek it's expensive for basically a bit of cheep plastic. those hinges are annoying, my daughters fishtank lid has them and its quite a job to get it open without knocking water everywhere. I guess I'll just use an old chocolate box packed out with sponge and a bead mat tied up with a pretty ribbon. thankyou for sharing.
Hey that works just as well! I got lucky with one and had a 60% off coupon at a craft store, so I ended up paying only 8$ for it. But a coupon that high only comes once in a blue moon. I contemplated DIY'ing a solution too, maybe if I find a technique that I like a lot, I'll share it with you guys. Thanks for watching!
Yeah the molded plastic is kinda thin right on the seam. Welp. That's what duct tape is for xD Still would hate to pay 20 bucks for them to pop off though >.
i have had mine for a couple of years now and the 2 complaints i have is that it is hard to clean if you spill anything and also my thread gets caught on the hinges and tabs
Yeah I am finding out more about the thread snagging the more I use it >.< It's not as bad if you keep the hinge/hook part away from you and use the side without the tabs, but it's still quite irritating.
I have the jr. size one of these and I love mine. Although I have the same complaints... the hinge and the ridiculous price. I use one half of mine for my everyday beading surface because beading mats just end up getting knocked in the floor or dumped into my lap on accident constantly by me... and this thing stays put on the table and keeps my beads in place nicely. And I don't really like Bead On It Boards... so this is a good alternative. If I am doing more than 1 project at a time I use the other half as another beading surface. And if I am only working on 1 project I can just pop the 2nd half of it on it if I decide I want to take it with me somewhere. It's super handy and can be used in so many different ways. I just wish the dang hinge would work properly!!! If the hinge worked properly I don't think I would mind the outrageous price as much also. But the price is just ridiculous no matter how you look at it. Also, I actually have little to no problems with tiny seedbeads getting trapped between the foam and the plastic... but mine appears to have slightly better fitting foam than yours... so maybe the fit of the foam just varries slightly in the products *shrugs* But all in all I think it's a pretty good product and I like mine alot.
Aw, man, that would be very disappointing if the products vary from piece to piece. The foam in mine is not thick at all. I don't know if dupes will come out with different technology, but you could probably DIY something cheaper. I just find it galling that they would charge the same price for both sizes. Tells you quite a bit about their profit margins...
Glad you enjoy my videos! He doesn't "help" me with my threads, which is a good thing, and he more or less leaves my finished pieces alone. It's just he likes to decide that now is the time for him to sit on my arms and on my bead mat >.< even though he has plenty of beds to choose from.
Yes over here you can get long big, slim metal biscuit tins foxes Christmas biscuits bead Matt on the lid and glue 6 tiny tubs inside so if you drop things like I do the lid might come off but you loose no beads. Touch wood I haven't dropped it yet lol. One one side I made a velcrose pin cushion for needles yea it is great for me. Hope your book is going well. Kind regards Sharon xx
Haha I know what you mean there , I have had to start your videos over and over sometimes due to the fact that a paw or kitty nose hits the back button on my tablet ... As soon as kitty hears "greetings" he is sitting on me and the tablet .. He has 2 videos he likes to see one is on squirrels and a bird one so not sure if he thinks I am using HIS tablet , he now owns it :P
Dawwwww! That's so cute xD A couple of ours likes it when we play videos on birds, but he's not too interested. He does like to chatter at the crows though, who are most certainly mocking him for his inability to fly.
Odins Musings right! the hinge thing was what always deterred me from this product. I'd rather have those fasteners on both sides since it separates anyway. It would prevent beads popping up off the mat.
Odins Musings exactly. I can see those plastic ones breaking right off after a while or if God forbid you drop it and crack it them or the hinges you're pretty much screwed

Yeah it's pretty utilitarian. Maybe you can make some sort of pouch or strap that stretches across it to hold your tubes.

Thought you guys might enjoy this review since I got it for the purposes of keeping my cat off my projects....
Like the idea , but think it will not last long .The locking taps look like they will break off easy

really the same price omg they can shove it glue a bead mat in a biscuit tin, that's what I did.
thank you very much for sharing.
kind regards Sharon
Bahahah, yep pretty much. You can probably get some memory foam to put on the bottom if you're feeling fancy too.

Sounds like you got something that works great!

so the large is the same size as the smaller one? nkay.
Guess I misspoke, I meant price. Whoopsie.
Oh, lol! And yep, same price. Kinda telling about their profit margins I think...
Odins Musings right! the hinge thing was what always deterred me from this product. I'd rather have those fasteners on both sides since it separates anyway. It would prevent beads popping up off the mat.
Yeah that would save a lot of problems actually. Provided the tabs were robust enough.
Odins Musings exactly. I can see those plastic ones breaking right off after a while or if God forbid you drop it and crack it them or the hinges you're pretty much screwed
"Review thingy" buahaha!
I words so good. :D
You do!! :D
