  • Koenigsegg just unveiled the most perfect modernization I’ve ever seen.
    Koenigsegg revealed their first production car, the CC8S, 20 years ago and to celebrate, they have just unveiled what seems to be an absolute perfect modernization of it - the CC850.
    In this video I’m going to let you know why this is such a special and well executed design by comparing it side by side to the original 2002 CC8S just to show you what I mean when I say perfect modernization.
    In typical Koenigsegg fashion the powertrain underneath this gorgeous body is an absolute beast. The Koenigsegg CC850 is powered by a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 pumping out a raging 1,385 hp and guess what the weight is? Exactly the same as the hp at 1,385 kg giving it a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.
    To transfer that power to the wheels you can decide whether to have it in automatic mode OR, listen to this, engage a proper 6-speed gated manual transmission.

    Once again Bugatti and Hennessy launch a roofless car but Koenigsegg says hold my beer and launches a manual hypercar 🤯
    Just want to add this: it's not a manual in a traditional sense, the shifter doesn't have any linkage to the gearbox and neither does the clutch pedal. One just senses the selected gear and the other the pedal position, just like a sim racing rig and transmits the info to the ECU which controls the gearbox. However they say the feedback is tuned to feel like a "real" manual car and I bet it's true. All in it's a great innovation which no other company attempted, so props to them!

    • @h2wr
      @h2wr Год назад +3

      You're saying once again as if Bugatti and Hennesey do roofless cars often, they don't. Bugatti hasn't made a roofless car since the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse which was produced in 2012, so its been 10 years since Bugatti has made a roofless car yet you say' once again' like it was just last year. Lets not forget the Bugatti Mistral is a completely new design and well... the CC850 is just a modern revamp of a CC8S.

    • @changsangma1915
      @changsangma1915 Год назад +1

      @@h2wr .....agree on your Bugatti based points, but its apparent the Mistral is basically a Divo/Voiture Noire roadster...especially the front end design and the side scoops. The only new is the rear end & being roofless.

    • @h2wr
      @h2wr Год назад

      @@changsangma1915 I can agree that their is most definitely inspiration/ aspects taken from La Voiuture Noire however I see very little in terms of the Divo. If you compare the 1 off La Voiture Noire and Mistral side by side the cars have very distinct differences in stance, design and road presence. Moreover Bugatti didn't simply take an existing model and just take the roof off as with the Veyron GSV or Veyron Grand Sport, they have put a clear and dedicated effort into creating a whole new car to signify the end of the W16 era, a fitting send off which wraps up Bugattis years of elegant, prolific design language into 1 limited edition car. Koenigsegg on the other hand, did as Lamborghini did with the new Countach, recreate an old model, it is evident Koenigsegg didn't deviate from the design philosophy of the CC8S from 2002 and simply had to modernise a few features such as the front and rear lighting arrangement which I argue is very low effort especially coming from Koenisegg who are known for their innovations. Whilst the result is much better than Lamborghini's new Countach I can't exactly say the CC850 is that special, it's just bringing back an old name for the sake of money and notoriety.

    • @changsangma1915
      @changsangma1915 Год назад +1

      @@h2wr .....the majority of general audience wont pick up such technical nuances, the first impression they get seeing some pictures in social media and will react to say "oh another divo-voiture noire dressed up as a new car". Infact most still think the Voiture Noire is a Chiron variant with new body kit. Average joe do not have the logical range to see around the whys and nots in the car industry. The CC850 is a well thought product that do not revolt on its own brand identity. The original model established the brand image & it was just waiting to be modernised at some point cause the design is a trademark silhouette....Timeless shape if said. It makes no sense to sprinkle too much into its sculpture where less is what makes it stand out cause it was already perfect.

      @@h2wr You had me until the special-argument. In my opinion, they modernized the design and added an immense level of modern specialty. They doubled the HP and reinvented the shifting. In terms of modernizing they went way and beyond. The saying " Don't change it if it's not broke " got ramped up. They started with timeless, made it even prettier and still cranked it to 11. The transmission situation is mind-blowing! They use 9spd from the Jesko and they linked the shifter and the clutch pedal to the selectors and clutches of the gearbox through hydraulics. The H-pattern select between different 6 of the 9 ratios depending on the driving mode. And then, when you swing all the way to the right, overcoming the lockout, you can select between R and D :)

    • @Boris_V
      @Boris_V Год назад +1

      No they didn't link the selectors and the clutches through hydraulics. The whole manual gear selector and clutch pedal are shift-by-wire. Meaning it's just all a bunch of unnecessary bullshit to make the driver believe they're driving a manual car. They basically just fit a fake gear selector with a bunch of fake mechanics and a fake clutch pedal in there while they could've done all of that with just two paddle shifters.

    • @zahari_s_stoyanov
      @zahari_s_stoyanov Год назад +4

      @@Boris_V dude, they explained it quite clearly. There's a direct hydraulic link between the clutch pedal, the shifter and the gearbox. In the case of the shifter in particular, the computer decides which valves to actuate depending on the driving mode, so you get different ratios to play with. But that's the only "shift by wire" part of the system :)

    I knew it!! You’re connected to
    Sweden/Swedish somehow - I couldn’t really hear what you said but I’ve been a huge fan of your work and seeing that all info about you points to the states - but I’m sure I hear some Sweden in your pronunciation, makes me question my senses.. 😀 Keep up the good work and I’ll see you in the next one.

    The best view of the car is from the rear three quarter. It looks like it's flying. Looks better when you can see the exhaust and diffuser. Ideally I got used to seeing the Agera, Regera and Jesko with super short front overhangs but they've made the nose a tad longer for crash regulations. That is the one part that seems just a little, little stretched.

    6:12 the clutch pedal is a regular hydraulic pedal (with some tricks involved due to the absence of synchronizers) but the shifter is not mechanical, it's 100% electronic.

    I completely agree with you.
    At first, I was expecting the CC850 to just be a rebadge of Jesko since that is the newest Koenigsegg car design.
    However, the reveal of the CC850 blew my mind. They successfully captured the essence, the DNA, the design language of the CC8S and transplant it into the CC850. Plus, they managed to modernize the CC850 without making it look overly done. I love it that I can instantly recognize that the CC850 belongs to the CC series and not the Agera, Regera, or Jesko.
    For instance, instead of sticking a huge rear spoiler like the Jesko, they designed the rear wing so that in most of the times, it is tucked away seamlessly with the body panel. This is definitely a homage to the CC8S which does not have a rear spoiler.

  • @halofreak1990

    Personally, it reminds me more of the CCR than the CC8S, due to the fact that the 8S did not have a spoiler between the tail lights and several other details, unlike the CCR, which I think is more reflected in this new, re-imagined version of the CC design.

    • @budokpantai
      @budokpantai Год назад +3

      I think this is designed by Selipanov before he parted ways with Koenigsegg (which is a shame). The headlights has similar shape to the Gemera, and Selipanov designed the Gemera headlights with inspirations from the CC8S.

    I think nobody is doing what Koenigsegg is doing right now, with being so innovative in technology and building that tech themself, as well as not jumping on the EV bandwagon completely but in-fact using best of both world's in their other models, and then offering earth shattering performance wrapped in gorgeous body.
