As a 29 yr old person, i loved the show bc its about 32 yr old not giving up on his dream.
I don't know where this thinking comes from. We had football/soccer world champions in their late 30s, it's not like you just break down at 30.
You might not win Olympic gold anymore. But if you look at Ironman.. most competitors are in their mid 40s.
But the message is very badly handled in this one. Yeah, he rekindles his old dream - by the way of getting some superpowers and becoming a generic shounen MC. Nothing really inspiring here.
@@generalzwinger3943 the mc did'nt get the job because of his powers.
@@BQD_Central its easier to give up mentally as u grow old. The show is good as a self reflection
@@jamesphiliptan6605 you tend to get lazy as you achieve things. That’s why you think of unfit people when you think 35+.
Thing is: as long as you don’t get lazy, you can compete on high level, even though it’s not peak performance anymore.
I got flashbanged by the Kaiju No.8 ending song. Never would have guessed that One Republic would do a crossover with an anime, and the song is in my playlist now
I really like the opening song. While some people think English songs are an odd choice, I think this way… English speakers listen to Japanese songs in all the other shows and they usually sound great. But that’s partly because we have no clue if the lyrics are any good. I think this time Japan will enjoy how cool English songs can be without understanding them. Change of pace. Just this once.
@@dearthditch you're probably right. but i feel like choosing english songs is part of the sweet baby incification of anime that we will be seeing taking place going forward into 2025-2026.
can't wait for Progressive Americans to somehow ruin anime forever like they did everything else. i watch too much anime if they ruin it i can finally get back to fixing the BMW in my garage.
Heh yeah
I had to add that to my playlist as well. Its just such a fun song
It's as unexpected as when I started watching Eden of the East and was greeted with an Oasis song.
@@sparklesparklesparkle6318
What does SBI have to do with western songs being used in anime? I'm definitely no SBI enjoyer, but western songs have been used in anime for literal decades at this point. Might not be that common but Serial Experiments Lain is approaching 26 years old and features an English band for the OP.
One of the little things that made Evangelion great were seeing the aftermath of the battles, the scars it left in the ground, the reconstruction efforts in the city, the characters talking about budget constraints...
I liked that about Symbionic Titan too
Second Pacific Rim movie? What are you talking about? There's only one Pacific Rim movie. Pacific Rim never got a sequel. Not at all. If there was a Pacific RIm sequel, everyone would be talking about it for how good it was.
Reset the clock!
There's the animated show that takes place in Australia. It wasn't terrible.
Are you talking about the asylum mockbuster Atlantic rim
Nobody got you the way I do!
That ED is going to be stuck in my head for the next few months!
Whatever demons you're fighting through~
Same
I never skip the OP. It's just too good.
Kaiju's recommendation after making semi-ironic comments about the Wind Breaker battle shonen formula is a bit funny.
I love that the protagonist in Kaiju nr No 8 has the same ( last ) name as the autor of The Metamorphosis book
lol Franz Kafka haah
Kafka from Star Rail looks sexier tho xD
It's. So. Damn. Fun. Takes me back to Saturday morning cartoons as a kid. Each Saturday I look forward to watching this show.
Season 2 was already announced
Nope, it's a game based on the series
No, it was also leaked (by a reliable leaker) on Twitter that a season 2 is in the works. We’ll get the season 2 announcement after the final episode
Even if it wasn’t announced, I’d feel confident in saying we’re getting more than one season. This seems like big project with a lot of money and promotion behind it.
Pretty obvious that this was filmed before today’s episode dropped. Today’s episode is the one that makes me say that yeah, we’re going to get some really interesting plot progression in the next couple episodes. I definitely recommend this show!
I'm just picturing that he got the video ready and programmed on youtube, then watched today's episode and said "nop, Im not recording not editing the video, I don't care" lol
And it also convinced me to read the manga lol, I just couldn't imagine waiting a whole 7 days to see what would happen next. I just caught up and I gotta say it was worth it, although the latest chapter ironically also ended in a brutal cliffhanger and while I agree it isn't the best series it is a really fun read/watch
this is a fun video after today's episode of Kaiju No 8 lol
I find Kafka one of the most relatable protagonist in recent years.
Maybe it's because he is also a talentless loser in his early 30s who failed his childhood dream?
How? He acts like every other Shonen protagonist.
@LWoodGaming Well, since you asked.
The primary reason why Kafka is a compelling character is because he is not some wide-eyed dipshit teenager who believes that if he yells hard enough or believes more than someone else, then the world will reward him with success.
He's a middle aged working adult who failed his dream multiple times and is humbled by the experience. He knows he got lucky and is using his gift to the best of his ability while also respecting everyone around him. Is it refreshing that there is no moronic, childish, dick measuring contest like with many other Shonen anime.
I read the manga right after the first 3 episodes not because I believed it would stop at a cliff hanger but because I actually liked it a lot. Either ways I believe both wind breaker and kaiju no.8 will get more seasons.
the anime for kaiju number 8 is good. but the anime is better. you know those scenes in the anime where they talk for like literally 2 minutes? I can speed read those in the manga in like 20 seconds and I'm a slow reader.
the manga's rhythm is much more pleasant. i don't like going slow i wanna go fast.
@@sparklesparklesparkle6318 The anime is great but the anime is better? (I can tell what you meant from the context, still might want to tweak your comment there mate)
@@WolforNuva nah homie. turns out my liquor store just started selling the american version of strong zero. It's called -196 here (i assume putting the word zero on an alcohol product in america that isn't 0% isn't allowed so they went with -196).
I just found this out today. I am sloshed. the mistake stays because my mistake was drinking 16 strong zeros and I still have 8 more i bought 3 cases incase they ran out.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

@@zahirlara8068 yeah man I drink all day and cook food. i made pork ribs, beef ribs, berry bread, potatoes, rice, samiches, burritoes and cassoroles to throw in the freezer.
also watched Birdie Decode. such a fire anime.
For those curious, the most recent episode (10, I think?) equates to about chapter 33. Up to date is 108 chapters. So they could reasonably launch into a season 2 right away with that "Streaming on X" money.
Yeah, but where would a Season Two end? We're knee deep in a major battle in the manga at this time.
@saltyk9869 I figure it'll be over sometime in the next few months. By the end of this season, I figure we'll be in the 40s. I'd have to look up which chapter exactly. The Tempo should be quick because of how much action there is. 60 chapters doesn't sound awful.
When I say "right away," I mean "next year," in true seasonal anime fashion.
It has less in common with Titan, and alot more with One Punch Man.
You can't tell me Kafka and Leno aren't 1:1 carbon copies of Saitama and Genos.
I just binged the anime today and I had the exact same thought! Leno is such a Genos, I can’t believe he even has a similar name. Not that I’m complaining, I love that dynamic!
I also love that they used that name for the main character. Its a fun nod to another author's work and its funny that the creature resembles dragonfly to some extend.
"he has to cover his tracks.... and its going well" Yea about that...
8:22 as someone who is caught up on the Manga (which looks like it's on its last arch), they haven't gone into specifics on any of these questions.
4:12 i don't think i would describe kafka's strategy this way, you make him sound like an OP isekai/reincarnated protagonist. the dude isn't trying to cover his tracks, he really is trying as hard as he can with his weaker human abilities. he knows he has great power that he can call on when he needs it, but we see him striving more to be helpful to the defense force in his own way because he doesn't want to rely on his kaiju power. part of that is knowing they would kill him the instant they found out, but the other part is his determination to fight by his childhood friend's side on his own merit, exactly the way he promised her he would. every time he gets recognized and promoted, it has nothing to do with his kaiju powers, and i really love that about him as a protagonist.
As a manga reader, I think you nailed it. And the manga keeps up what you have enjoyed, up to this very point as of making this comment.
I do think that the medium exposed some "weaknesses" in the story compared to the manga. The biggest strength that this series had in the manga was it's pacing, being almost breakneck in traversing the shonen tropes. In the anime the characters have to speak, interact, and have comedy moments animated, and it does definitely take away from that pace.
I had read the manga up to a certain point years ago and then stopped hoping that the show would get an anime adaptation in the future.
Wasn't disappointed when it finally came out.
Another Frosty upload so soon!? Sweet! 😎
I think Kaiju No 8 is growing in popularity because of the other smart Kaiju and the action ramps up.
You could also see parasyte inspiration in there too. Definitely a fun watch. I'm also having fun shipping various squad members.... 😶🌫️
2:15 Yes my favorite anime this season Kaiju Number 9 ;P
Thanks for the recommendations as always
3d maneuver gear cannonically runs on titan magic. As they're powered by Iceburst stones. Which were created by the Founding Titan. So the big tech gap you mentioned basically comes down to magic.
But you have to admit that the canisters and all other mechanical elements require a post-industrial level of automation. Maybe a few elements could have been created by clockmakers or other specialized artisans... But if every disposable titan snack in that show receives one... That means more than just magic. You need a production line that is well beyond the technological level of the civilization inside the walls.
@@SystemBDRemember that technological advancements behind the Walls are tightly monitored though. Most are straight up censored, destroyed, and their inventors killed. The ODM Gear was probably an exception.
You really called me out, because I was definitely gonna talk about the self dissolving web fluid 😂
The discussion about the Kaiju no. 8 Manga not being in Shonen Jump came up elsewhere, in my memory.
I believe it had something to do with both Weekly Shonen Jump's production pace being too short for the author to finish the story, but an actual month as in Monthly Shonen Jump was unnecessary.
Usually it would've been snubbed, but because Jump made an app that they we're planning to promote, and the app not necessarily being bottle-necked by a physical production schedule, the author could get published there...
This might have all been hearsay though.
Regardless, i own all currently released volumes, in english print.
and when, not if it gets a second season, it's probably going to deliver.
The episode today was so good. Got me so hyped and nervous at the end. Can't wait for next week.
Kaiku no. 8 definitely feels a bit like Attack on Titan if it was played straight, without the billion literally world altering twists
This is not a Tonari no Yokai video. Why is this not about Tonari no Yokai?
I for one will be rooting for this show and hope many watch it as a person who grew up with godzilla and kaiju shows
Looking dapper as usual.
Oh wow, you're right. Kafka totally has Mutta vibes. Hadn't even thought of that.
So, I believe the reason for Kaiju No 8 publishing status is that they are experimenting with how they publish series. It publishes three chapters weekly, then takes a week off (posting some art, but nothing substantial). Other Shonen Jump series are published weekly or monthly, but Kaiju No 8 is different in this way. Considering what we know about the Hell of being a mangaka for Shonen Jump, I think this is an attempt to give writers more rest.
In addition, I think Kaiju No 8 isn't really a "Shonen Jump" series, but a slight off shot of the main Shonen Jump brand. All in all, it's a very experimental series in how they publish it.
Response to 7:51: possibly a scientific experiment to make human kaiju to fight them. The protag is doing the secret work of others. Mostly questioning what are they doing with the remains
I am questioning the remains location
In my local Walmart there is the first volume of Kaiju No.8 manga. Been there for at least a month I'd say. Appears they are starting to print it. At least in the US.
The show has been great so far, lots of beautiful kaiju action, and just enough character development to keep you invested in the expanding side characters.
Arkada, a super squad clad in black uniforms battling giant monsters already existed in *Godzilla Final Wars* (2004) years before Attack on Titan manga (2009).
Errors everywhere "in Kajiu number 9" , actually his wasn't in the running to be an officer but they changed the age limit. Kajiu number 08 manga can be bought in print. Wait until they get to the cool shit later :)
Please tell me more about this Wise Wolf 😌
Praise our lord and savior Holo
Spice and Wolf?
YES!
I'll have two Kaijus number 8s, a Kaiju number 9 large, a Kaiju number 6 with extra dip, a Kaiju number 7, two Kaijus number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
the irony is that the studio that adapted Kaiju No.8 that is Production I.G. also made the Netflix ULTRAMAN anime which itself is based on the Hero's Ultraman manga which is a re-imaging Tsuburaya's famous Tokusatsu superhero, the studio behind the Rebuild Evangelion movies Studio Khara is also collaborating with them on Kaiju No.8.
I love the intro song it’s on my playlist
My problem with Spiderman web slinging isn't the cleanup of the webs (though the argument of them dissolving brings up the question why they don't when sticking to bad guys) but it's the issue of if you swing by a rope attached to a point above and to the right of you, that you will be pulled to the right and into the structure you're attached to and NOT perfectly forward. It's most apparent in the Spiderman games, where your character seemingly defies the laws of physics.
I'm really enjoying this adaptation of spice and wolf
Ugh, how many animes have been completed recently? I'm sick of 12 episodes then 4 year hiatus. I'm not trying to keep up with animes all day.
As far as shounen that weren't instantly popular are concerned, Kaiju No. 8 is in the same company as Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen. Which didn't really take off until about episode 19 and the second season respectively.
🤨 dude, JJK season 1 was insanely popular
Can we expect a video on Hibike Euphonium :D
I've tried windbreakers, but it wasn't wind. these were my favourite trousers.
Wanting to read the manga is actually a characteristic of a great story. I also have no desire the read the manga of this but i think thats the case because i don't really love the show atm. I mostly enjoy watching it, but it isnt close to sweeping me of my feet. (I have only watched the first 4 episodes, so maybe it becomes much better, but i wouldnt know)
No prob with the Tobey Spidey, bio-spider silk probably also degrades after a time. Easy Peasy, Arkada-sy.
I did think of Space Brothers a lot when first starting to watch Kaiju 8.
I think my favorite part of Kaiju No.8 is that No.9's reason for what it does is simply the destruction of mankind. It's a really nice break from so many other modern stories that feel like they require a bad guy that's relatable.
That star ship troopers reference was great since it's not just Japan fighting off the monsters it the whole world
Kikoru is stated to have trained in California as I recall. Which implies that there are at least some kaiju attacks on America. Enough that it warrants a school to train combatants.
Tristan, can you add Code Geass Roze of the Recapture to the list for the next one
Man im loving the manga so good
As someone who is now thirty who isn't where I wanted to be when I was 17 I relate to Kafka a lot.
I think the origin of the monsters is explained in the OP, with the eggs rising from those underwater valcano things, as the fish gobble them up, which transforms said fish into monsters.
It also shows a test tube in a laboratory, which tells me humanity has possibly had a hand in the monsters creation.
But idk.
9:12 Funny timing on your video.
Like to thank Ryan Tedder for making another banger song and this time for a good anime. Still flabbergasted they got OneRepublic the guys who did "Apologize" and "Counting Stars" to do the ending. It works so damn well. I can't get the damn song out my head.
Windbreakers was fantastic, _definitely_ one of the best shows of the season. Yeah, it didn't really resolve much by the end, but the ride was well worth it.
I feel like go go loser ranger is a much more interesting concept to me, is everyone really so starved for shonen action with MHA and Demon Slayer around
Kaiju is for me classic formula done well, I am also 31 so I can relate to a great degree haha
Man that Spider-Man mockery went from funny to hurtful, ouch.
Agreed, Kaiju n.8 is best anime so far (as of spring/summer 2024) 😍💖🖤✨🔥
Have a great sunday GR
Honestly, the manga still hasn't answered a lot of the questions, like what was with the small kaiju that gave Kafka his powers. And a small correction, Kafka has avoided using his powers. He made it into the Defense Force on his own abilities (barely). He's only used them to save his comrades. Oh, and while I think Japan gets more kaiju, we know several members of Division 3 were trained outside of Japan, which implies other countries deal with them, too.
It was actually his comedic relief that got him in.
The initial premise sounds like Parasyte too. Surprised you didn't mention that series.
Kaiju no 8 is just an enjoyable package. There is no extreme edginess, no super complicated mystery or plot. It is basic and fine. I like it. It makes my day more enjoyable. That's all I need when eating.
It's the type of show we will most likely forget in a couple seasons. It is still enjoyable.
The pacing of this anime is a little slow, but still a fun watch. Probably the show I look forward to the most each week, together with Mushoku Tensei.
If this were marvel he would be working for Damage Control who is responsible for cleaning up all the spider bits ...
I don't go out to read the manga either because the most problem I heard from the JP manga fan base is the release schedule makes every fight in the manga took forever to finish, so it's better of for me to waited things progress and settle a little bit more.
I still want a spin off about Kafka during his monster clean up crew.
Stop teasing me on doing a Spice and Wolf video 😂 if you actually do one though I'm so here for it 🎉
I heard the manga story falls after a bit apparently the story starts to focus less on kafka as story goes on....just a heads up 😅
Personally that isn't true. It do cover some of the back story of the some of the sub characters but I find it good as it probably be very boring if the story just center on Kafka alone. And it do a good job in character and world building in my opinion.
It's Attack on Titan One Punch Man with Bleach groups of characters. As I'm turning 30, I can't help but love this series and the protagonist.
ive been reading the manga, and it started good, but after a while, it became shonen, has a shonen manga gets, kinda sad because the premise was really good
I stopped reading Kaiju No8. I liked it but I didn’t feel the need to keep going. I felt like it stated spinning its wheels a bit so I just stopped. I’m trying to only keep the manga series that really grab me.
2:15 you said kaiju no.9 :P
12:13 love it :D
Looking at the current pace of the anime, I will suggest to continue to read the manga after the current run of the anime is over. Don't have to read from chapter 1 as the anime cover the manga very carefully from the manga and it didn't deviate it.
A anime review, that is great
Kaiju No 8 works because it’s fairly basic shounen but with likable characters. It doesn’t really push the envelope but it isn’t overly offensive in any way either.
can you please do a Hunter X Hunter Review 2011 id be entertained hearing you talk about it
I find it interesting that you would be fine with the anime not continuing, and then just not even reading the rest of it because there was enough to entertain you, but then you also take issue with this kind of storyline eventually revealing the mystery. Why doesn't the same apply? As in why are you not content with the mystery staying as long as it did?
Not taking a jab at you or anything, and neither of these opinions bother me on their own, I just thought the two together was an odd contradiction.
Day 4 of asking to cover Tomodachi game.
Ooo! Starship Troopers blip.
Im the guy who watched all the godzilla films before watching this so im happy.
Luckily, Season 2 has been confirmed for Kaiju No8.
As a reader of the manga, I can tell you all that the anime follows the manga and adds minor additions perfectly. The design is a bit softer than the manga but completely on point.
well made heavy action oriented series tend to do that
Kaiju is epic windbreaker was boring (for me) didnt finish it. But thats just because its not my cup of tea not the shows fault its amazing
...I actually like Pacific Rim 2.
It's probably bad timing to say PR: The Black's WAY better than I expected. IT HAS A ZEIRAM TRIBUTE! Also some good/shocking moments.
....PR2's dumb, but I didn't put the 1rst movie on a pedestal either. Why don't I have any friends?
Marvels "damage control" was about a construction company that restored the city after some superdudes leveled it in a fight. It was partly a joke and some very clever world building. How can 3 different superheroes destroy the same buildings in a week? Damage control fixed it. For a second there I was hoping this anime would do that, but alas...
6:18 has it been challenging for you to not read the manga after ep 10 cliffhanger 🫠🫠
Holo the wise wolf? sounds interesting, tell me more....
