    good work, I see so many of these tossed away, if it's something easy to fix ok, otherwise I save them for parts. I pull the power supply & motors, belts etc.

    What type & company of digital multi-meter you recommend?
    I always use surge protector for all my electronic devices even for repair purpose.
    This is true & sad that now Sony is using cheap components to bring the cost down but that became headache for many customers. Thanks for this video.

      Hey, I personally use a Klein, not because its the best but it works for what I need. Fluke makes great equipment (or they did..not so sure about anymore). Really it depends on what you are using it for. A simple $10 DMM is fine for someone just checking basic voltages around the house. I have a couple of those that I got from Tractor Supply and they work fine, however they only only have a few digits so can only use it for basic things......not to mention I wouldn't trust their longevity.

    That long boot time is normal. I have a 2 day old dvp sr210p (same unit) and it works the same. (Edit: mine only has one screw holding each circuit board! Other than that, I think the power supply might be laid out differently. The fuse is brown instead of black.) The other circuits and the actual dvd drive appear the same though. (Edit: mine only has a similar SONY square chip on the board with the ports, not the rectangular one! Newer revision, more stuff going on in that square chip now with the new tech. The cables are also all ribbon cables on the new ones now.)

    ran across this video in my search for an answer => I have a 5-disc Sony CD player from 20+ years ago (Sony CDP-CE305) which has held up very well...until a couple of weeks ago when the power button refused to stay depressed. When I press it in and hold it, the unit powers up properly and everything works. However, it won't stay depressed on its own. I opened the unit up and got to the board with the power button circuit, but I can't tell if I can actually replace it (or if it's worth it). Any thoughts / ideas?

      check out ebay for used working boards. here's a link from one that I found. Probably the easiest way for you to get it fixed.

      As long as you stick with the same uf rating and the same or higher voltage rating, you should be fine.

    Hi, I am repairing my own Pioneer DV-585, its dead unable to On, I have replaced the switching SMPS IC and those flex connecting cables from power board to control panel but it still won't work but I do know the power reservoir cap has degraded to 76uF from 82uF., can that be a reason it won't switch on?

    • @Electronicle
      @Electronicle  5 лет назад +1

      No. That cap sounds like it's still within spec. Have you taken any measurements? Probe around the board. You need to find if there is power outputting from the power supply, if it's correct. And if not Where is it failing.

    • @revive5
      @revive5 5 лет назад +1

      @@Electronicle, I have taken measurements on the A6151 switching IC, it can produce +/ 32V but nothing is going over to the secondary side of the SMPS tranny, BTW also tested the only opto-coupler but is good so now I have downloaded the service manual and found out that there are a few transistors on the PSU board acting as switching devices for the Standby and On power rail in order to complete the system loop before whole board level operation can work as it supposed to be, I will continue to check up on all those transistors via outboard confirmation later and if I am really able to revived this unit I will make a video in my channel detailing everything.

    • @Electronicle
      @Electronicle  5 лет назад +1

      Choong excellent! Hope to see it.

    • @revive5
      @revive5 5 лет назад

      @@Electronicle , I am not going to spend time on it anymore, all the transistors are good, the situation is still that there is voltage from the primary but nothing on the secondary, the SMPS transformer is measured to be good according to diagram and all caps are good as measured by ESR meter so in a nutshell before I gave up this is what I had done - 1- changed panel buttons, 2- changed flex connecting cables between PSU and user panel, 3- resoldering PSU PCB, and 4- changed A6151 switching IC, I think after 13 years its such a good model so I am going to get a new DV-5032V which has all the same audio video specs.

    Shame how much Sony quality has fallen, just a few years before this model they were making great quality HDMI DVD players. This one's more like a Chinese piece of junk with Sony's badge slapped on the front.

      Hi, not only Sony, its all Japanese brands nowadays are actually OEM China units, that is why I willing to put effort to repair my Pioneer DV-585 back to life if possible., it broke down after 13 years of near daily usage in most of those years as my mom's karaoke machine most of the time.

    Hi Electronicle amazing for what you do sir! I have a quick question hope you can answer me? I have a Sony 4k bluray player recently purchased April 2017. The problem I have with this player is that when I turn the power on the power light will comes on for about 2 minutes and it power itself off. The screen display does not comes on at all. Is this means I have power issue with the power switching board or other issue like the hardware or software? I am about to trash this player but giving one last try by watching your video. Hoping you might be able to shed some light on this issue. Thanks!

    • @Electronicle
      @Electronicle  6 лет назад

      I need to do a video on how to test or diagnose a power supply fully, so this is a good question. Just at first 'glance' it sounds like the main board is shot as in its not 'booting' properly. They usually use a eeprom or flash chip to hold the firmware that it boots off of when you turn it on. If that becomes corrupted they won't boot, however this is without knowing anything at all about the exact player you have and without looking at it myself. Have you checked online to see if anyone else has had the same problem with your model? Sometimes there's a reset procedure that you can do ( you know hold 4 buttons while tapping your foot and blinking twice) on devices to bring them back. I would do some searching for that using your model number. As far as a power supply, I assume there's a cable coming off the power supply to the main board. You would need to know the pinout of that cable (what the voltages are for each wire) and test. Sometimes they print that directly on the board next to the connector. Part of the test is not just to see that the voltages are there, but how clean the DC voltage is...is there a considerable drop in voltage when the unit is powered on etc. Before you go digging too deep though, like i said before, check online if you haven't already for similar issues that others have had and if there's a reset procedure. The fact that it stays on for 2 minutes before shutting off automatically leads me to believe its probably not the power supply, however again this is just a guess at this point.

      Thank you very much for your reply! My bluray player is the Sony UBP-X800. It is a 4k bluray player that I purchase last April 2017. Since the unit is too new I can not find any repair infos on it. I am not an electronic repairman and have no test equipment at all so testing it for voltage is nearly impossible for me. I did some research and found a good switching regulator exactly like mine for sell on Ebay for $35. A picture of the board is on the listing. I am attaching a link just in case you want to see what it looks like. www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-1-474-675-11-SRV2497WW-Switching-Regulator-PSU-for-UBP-X800-Blu-ray-Player-/162976061155. Like I mentioned earlier I am at a last ditch effort to save this player from going to salvage. Thanks for your time!

      if you have a multimeter you can check the output of pins 4, 5, and 6 for 12v when its turned on, however if you don't there's not much you can do. Depending on how much you paid for it, you can give it a shot. Another option would be to not throw it out but set it aside for a bit and keep your eye on ebay for one that works but has a scratched up case or one that works but won't read a disk. Combine parts out of the two to make one that works. As for the last example: It seems like you have a bad board but a good disc drive assembly, if someone has one that won't read a disc because their laser is bad, you could swap your drive assembly into the other. You could then keep it as a backup or sell it and make a few bucks. Again, just a thought.

    • @Crazy8video

      I think the power supply is good because when I unplugged the 12v power supply to the 2nd main board the unit will not power up and it will power up when I connect that cable back in. My guess now it is the main mother board and that board is costly. It cost more than the whole unit itself. I might do what you suggested set this aside for parts . Once again thank you very much for all your time!

    Those are $5.00 at Good Will so yeah. Not worth much huh? I seldom find it to be just a fuse. I have all my electronics plugged into a surge protector at home. We dont have a fuse box with surge protection built in so everything has one in our home. My wife works at an office and told me guys throw them away all the time. Everytime someone leaves, they throw them away.
