Trackman says he gets more right here than in other spots. Start with the basics/book, then make small adjustments as to what works for you so that you feel most comfortable and still get it right.
I've started going a bit lower than I have in previous years, and I think I'm calling a much better game now. I don't go quite that low, but I'm well below the book "chin no lower than the top of the catcher's head" stance.
The only and I mean only call I feel he got wrong (and again I’m looking at an angle) was 5:25. If it works for him and seems to then it’s not terrible. I agree couldn’t do that for 9 innings.
I notice he puts his left hand on his knee. From personal experience, that is a good way to get a finger broken. Getting it trapped between the ball (or wore yet the bat) and the knee plate on the shin guard.
There was potential batter's interference. He gives the safe sign to signal he didn't have interference. That covers his ass if a coach comes out and asks.
Obviously tough to tell from a video but he looks like he’s dropping too low on each pitch. If he’s not obstructed it’s fine but it’s tough to believe he wouldn’t be
I liked how the batters question a called strike and then let it go. They dont argue like the so called pros do just because they dont like the call
Do you think he's getting too low in his stance? Seems to be obstructed by the catcher's head

he is technically too low as taught/recommended, but if he can see, oh well. If he droops in later innings, he will lose tracking.

Donnie must have way better knees than I do. :) I couldn't work that stance for 9 innings.

I was thinking the same thing based on my personal experience.
you are right. I took a foul ball direct off finger resting on my knee. I went more with the Gerry Davis wider spread stance in later years.
Why does he give a safe sign on a swing and stolen base attempt? It’s not a dropped 3rd strike.
