Being more familiar with his virtuoso production, I did not, in all honesty, think that Hamelin was capable of such musicality: boooy was I wrong.

The third variation is probably another homage to Beethoven's op.109...(the other one being the 3rd Paganini variation of his). This piece features the 4th variation of Op.109's final movement while the latter does the 3rd variation.
