Everybody knows Aphrodite, and for some reason, everyone knows her as this positive symbol of femininity, beauty and love. I mean... by all means... Aphrodite was beautiful, but no being would do half the things Aphrodite did, and it never made sense to me that people worship her. As far as goddesses in Greek Mythology go... Aphrodite takes the cake of Queen Toxic. Even Hera had more reason for her evil deeds, and Athena at least made up for her outbursts of random atrocities with tremendously good deeds. Aphrodite meanwhile really was about that toxic life, and it's fitting that the two things she is mot know for are toxic relationships: Her relationship with Ares, and her relationship with Adonis - both are absolute trainwrecks and one is a full on tragedy. So allow me to speak the truth about Aphrodite, a goddess, who, on many occasions, out of pure pettiness, ruined the lives of many innocents, making her truly deserving of the following title:
Episode 6 Of Keeping Up With The Greek Gods - Queen Petty: Aphrodite
Subscribe For New Episodes Every Saturday & Wednesday
    Notes:
Greek mythology is ancient - literally thousands of years old, so the material I am working with here has undergone many, many iterations. Every time I create one of these videos, I piece together the puzzle that is each god's and goddesses' tale. Aphrodite is no exception, and particularly her love story with Adonis has many iterations - so many iterations that I could do a separate video just on her and Adonis. Also, since the Romans highly worshipped Aphrodite as Venus, there is a lot of overlap between the Greek and the Roman myths, making it even harder to tell a concise story with an entertaining storyline, because at the end of the day, that's my goal: Turn this into an engaging and entertaining Greek Mythology tale, so for the sake of this video - and all my videos - I try to streamline all of these tales and versions as much as possible and leave out some details that might make the videos less fun.
So... is this accurate and well researched? Absolutely. Is this the only interpretation or way of telling you about the goddess of lust, love and beauty, Aphrodite? No, this is just my way to tell the story.
Get All My Artwork & Support The Channel:
I get a lot of questions about my artwork and where it’s from or rather who draws it. Well the answer is that I create it - I don’t draw it. I use AI to create the artwork, using specific prompts, specific style influences from 18th and 19th century artists, and I spend about 6 hours per video just on the artwork. Each video has roughly double the artwork of what you actually see in the video, so a lot of it is unused. The good news here though is that you can get all that artwork on my Patreon - the artwork I do use, and the artwork I don’t use. Plus, by subscribing to my Patreon you are making a major contribution to Briefed and helping me to keep this channel going, because this is my full time job and the survival of the channel and quality of the videos greatly depends on said support. In return for supporting, you get more than the artwork though - you also get exclusive videos and producer credit, as well as access to a producer group that gets to vote on thumbnails, gets behind the scenes etc.
If you choose to become a Patron - thank you. I do not take it for granted.

I actually heard that Ares was considered the protector of women or harmed/abused women after killing a deity that raped one of his daughters and a few goddesses voted in his favor for his innocence.

Yes, Ares was considered -although, not everywhere- a protector of women . He also was one of the two patron gods of the Amazons (the other being Artemis), a population of warmongering women.
ALSO, Ares was actually greatly revered by soldiers and was the one people called upon when in need of courage / when they needed to face a great dreaded challenge .
ALSO #2, he was not the idiot commonly portrayed in modern-day media.

"Yet another fantastic video from Briefed!" Your tale never ceases to astound me; it's this distinct combination of simplicity, humour, and current language that strikes a chord with me, especially as someone from Northern Ireland, where sarcasm is nearly a second language. The way you can break down big mythical stories into something I can understand and appreciate has been a complete game changer for me.
Prior to discovering your channel, my interest in history was mostly focused on Irish history and the World Wars, and I enjoyed losing myself in fantasy audio books Your videos have given me a greater respect for the writers I listen to by illuminating the mythological underpinnings of their works. It's piqued my curiosity in listening to ancient mythology audiobooks, which I'm looking forward to.
And, speaking of looking forward, your channel has substantially affected my RUclips algorithm, which is now primarily packed with mythological stuff. However, I must add that not many creators can hold my interest in the same manner you can. With that in mind, I have a unique request: would you consider including Irish mythology into your future videos? The story follows Cú Chulainn's travels. As a fan of both history and fantasy, delving into these great stories via your own narrative style would be fantastic.
Thank you very much for helping me understand and appreciate mythology. I look forward to more of your engaging stuff!"

As for Irish mythology - it's definitely something I'm considering and something that's been requested a bunch of times, but it's probably still ways away to be honest, because there's a large list of content I have to get through first.

I believe that these gods and goddesses are not much different than we are. In the sense that they are also ascending, growing, evolving and learning from their lower vibrational past states of self. From the goddess I connect with, her mission is now to assist humanity to embody and experience the true, pure and divine essence of love. I think maybe because she went so far in the opposite direction, she was able to gain the wisdom needed to achieve this. She speaks of how pornography (99% of it) displays the opposite of love. It’s important that we acknowledge this. Then, each has their own choices.
I really enjoyed your video and am looking forward to exploring more on your channel.

My wife brought up an interesting point while we watched this. Technically speaking since Aphrodite father is Ouranos, she should be a titan and Kronus would be her brother. And as Ares is her great-nephew. That's both farther apart in family than most any other god, titan, and primordial god mating, if not the furthest apart. And creepier in a way that can only be answered with literally...ONLY one answer.......Greek mythology. As it would mean Styx & Thanotos weren't the only titans Zeus would betray. And it kinda explains how she was the one who got a demigod/god like Hercules killed. One of the only beings stronger than gods were the titans. I don't know how we missed that. Likely got lost in the mythologies we've read. At 30, that's thousands of years of Greek, Norse, Egyptian, our African and Native Americans' mythology (& now we're reading Asian [her] and Aztec [me] gods). I guess I can see how we botched this one. Lbvs. It plays a part in why we love these videos so much. And truthfully if she hadn't pointed it out, I would've missed that altogether.
Even still, Hera makes Hephaestus by herself. Zues makes Athena by himself. If memory serves me right, Kronos makes Typhon by himself in the later part of the war with the gods. Hell, even the human Myrrha makes Adonis as a damn tree. Natural biology says we come from our fathers first and where [no pun intended]. Idk how I didn't think of the fact Aphrodite and Kronos came [again, no pun intended] from the same set of...and Kronos is the god of time and only had 6-7 children. None of which were Aphrodite. How did I miss that earlier?
    ...Greek mythology 😂😂😂

great comment. I always forget to mention that Aphrodite precedes Zeus and the gods. Aphrodite seems to consume a lot of other goddesses of love, lust and whatever. There were heavenly Aphrodite (sort of cosmic power), earthly Aphrodite (the one about mating and kids), male Aphrodite (kind of female, but with a beard) and many more weird versions each pushed by a separate cult.
Unlike Odin whose alternative versions (Odr & Tyr) were different gods, Aphrodite is like one weird cauldron of half-digested deities.

    • @juliie007

I read a similar study that Aphrodite was a dual representation of the representation of the 2 kinds of love. One face was Eros that involved marriage, conception and sexual desire while the other face was concerned with platonic relationships such as parent to child, siblings & friendships affections that had nothing to do with sexual desire.

She isn't toxic, she's displaying duality in these stories. The spirit didn't do this exactly at all. Divine it doesn't really operate like humans even if they seem to have personalities like that these were just stories that reflected the times that they were living in and we're heavily changed to fit the Trends and dynamics of oppressor and oppressed

Buuut when every single retelling of every single major Aphrodite fable has her acting toxic in any and all ways then she is toxic 😂.

Our Gods come from out understanding; Gods are the inner most reflection of the truests parts of human nature; that we either thrive to be; or reflect upon the stories and allegories

    • @frogloover7774
      @frogloover7774 3 месяца назад +2

the people who keep saying 'she is' under this I don't think understand that there are people who worship Aphrodite. In my spiritual practice I've found the spirit acts differently than the myth. those stories were told and kept alive in a time when men perpetuated the abuse and oppression of women and these concepts/stereotypes that related to them were then projected onto the Idol of womanhood. Yet the cult lived on for centuries.
That being said, I totally understand this whole video (and those watching it) are commenting on this characterization, not the actual deity that many believe in. But there are still people, like myself, who are going to defend her because we love her so much. Just like those for other religions do. So maybe be a little more kind? I know that's prolly asking a lot for a RUclips comment section LMAO

We unconsciously aspire to things we are lacking. Many of us are average looking good hearted people conditioned to be honorable and ethical by societial norms. That's why liberal, passionate, aventurous, or even evil minded sexy individuals eventually become forbidden fruits in our eyes. Of course many wont accept or deny that publically, yet such spark is primal part of human nature that we tend to end up with.

being an Aphrodite enjoyer (mostly because i love playing as her in smite) i see her as a whole as a goddess that represent the bad steorotype of the female figure and the good, being really violence psicologically speaking and being her the goddess of love is saying many thing,
but being at the same time is capable of motherly love being the protector of his son enea helping to found rome (ye she cause the war of troy sure even tho it was eris fault as well so)
so being that her mirror is the simbol of the female sex
i mostly think of her as a rappresentative of femmininity in both good and bad side
the good part is mostly in the worshiping side of her and in all her good thing she did being the gooddess of the most good force that exist love
the contradiction of her figure is really magnetic

My three children are all named after Gods. Athenia, Ahriman, and Apolo. Do you ever do videos on the Zoroastrian gods? I would love to see something about Ahriman that I could show to my son to show him he’s not named after a demon. I’ve tried explaining to him, but a video would be so enlightening. You mentioned in one of your videos that you welcome suggestion so I thought I would submit this humble request.
