Hi everyone, lot of comments about life jackets. Couple of things. Why didn't we wear life jackets? Simply we forgot. I think we were so layed back and didn't really realise how dangerous that tide was! So we never put on the jackets in fact it didn't even cross our minds! It great to hear that you are all concerned for us, but we have not once fallen off the boat in 4 years and 1000s of miles of canal and rivers, we have gates at the stern and I purposely went through the boat and not along the gunwales. I know that's not the right mentally to have but wearing life jackets is mandatory. Cheers guys ❤
Just came across your channel the other day with your footage of the breach in the canal wall one and have been enjoying watching more of your content. I would love to take a holiday on a canal boat one of these days it looks like something I would really enjoy.
A few years ago me and a couple of mates were rafting down one of the local rivers here in nz and got to a section where 2 streams met and our raft just stopped. We had paddles and 4 of us couldnt get out of the eddy then out of nowhere the raft just flipped over. We regularly used to raft the river so we werent inexperienced but its very strange what converging currents can do
Been down that part of the river many/many times and never once seen the tide as you did, must be quite an experience. I have been going down when the tide is on it's way out and that can get a bit airy as you need to hug the wall approaching the Gloucester lock or you could be pulled down to the right and then god knows what would happen. All in all your video brings back many happy times/memories. Slimbridge was a fav stop for us. with the usual walk down to Peter Scotts wild fowl Trust. Thanks for sharing the video and, happy new year.
Very weird to see the river running upstream past some of my local landmarks, I have seen it before but never from a vessel. Definitely a river to be respected!
Glad you managed to get off the river and back to canal land again, that looked rather scary 🫣😮. Thanks for all your vlogs in 2024 🙏 and I look forward to watching more next year. Wishing you all a happy, healthy 2025 🎉🎊😊
Wow guys. You are so lucky, with some skill thrown in. There's no way I'd have wanted to be on the Severn in those conditions, in fact I tend to shy away from rivers completely. The amount of timber in there with you, it's amazing that your prop didn't shear, and with that much tidal flow, well, I don't want to think about it. Anyhoo, you live to float another day😮🏴☠️
@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat Your safety is the thing everyone is concerned about. I think your vlog is a bit of a wake up for all boaters, once you are in that flow, you are in it, and have to go with it 🏴☠️❤️
@peterhewitson2669 that's very true and this is the first time I have been scared aboard Olive. The wash was easy compared to this and as we were on the Gloucester and Sharpness canal before going into Gloucester docks we didn't even think of life jackets but next time obviously we will😮
Nah then, ey up me ducks. Wow, how sketchy was that flooded river. I think I'd have needed a whiskey after that, lol. May you all have a happy new year my friends. Yours: Paul 🙂
That river looked Quite scary the flow of the water. And all the trees coming down the river. Take care have a great a d Happy new year 🎉 😊 from me and mum ❤️ 😊
I assume you have some kinda prop/rudder guard, is it fully caged or just a rail for grounding? Just wondering due to the debri. I remember my moons ago spending Christmas day in the freezing water with my old man untangling rope from the prop of his drop door work barge. Happy adventures in the new year! 🙂
We used to have our GRP at the marina there before we bought the narrowboat on the Ashby and we’re really shocked you didn’t have life jackets on as we always wore them on there 🙁
The trouble is Carole we were on the Gloucester and Sharpness canal until we got to Gloucester docks and didn't even think about putting them on. Obviously if we had known it was this bad we would have.
Am new to the channel - great camera work - I seem to have missed the bit where your narrowboat nearly sank - can you please let me know - Happy Holidays!
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat thanks you for the welcome, much appreciated but could you please direct me to where in the video the huge spring tide almost sunk your narrowboat. I’m interested to see it as am in the process of buying a narrowboat so want to see what I could be up against. Many thanks
@GrahamSwan-yi5gw . It's a 10.3 metres on the river and we didn't think it would be this dangerous with the trees and debris along the way trying to avoid it and as we hit the main river after coming out of the channel from the lock it almost tipped us over as we were turning. It doesn't look so bad in the vlog but I can assure you it was alot more scary when you were there.
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat thanks - now I understand just a headline to entice people to watch the vlog - have just unsubscribed……as a boater you need to pay attention to the weather, river state and other relevant factors - enjoy 2025 and maybe comply with the regs and wear a life jacket and be ready to deploy an anchor and other safety equipment

Should have rope front to back that you can clip a harness to in case you both fall overboard so you can pull your self back up as well and skies on your feet so if it fails you can just have a good time😂

Yep that has you summed up completely - amateurs.
How can you forget lifejackets? Negligence.
I love your vids and once again you have gone tidal with no life jackets,a boat can be replaced but a life cant
We will bear that in mind after this. Thank you 😊

Great boating skills there, dodging all those logs!
Stay safe🙏

One word guys. SCARY!! you must have been so relieved to get off the river on to the Droitwich canal. Please take care of yourselves. X
We were certainly relieved Marilyn and didn't expect it to be that bad 😊

Thank you for watching 👀. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Darts isn't a sport you might well have a chance
Fastest I’ve seen a narrowboat go lol

Fab content but really struggle to hear what you're saying above music and sometimes engine noise etc. The sound levels need tweaking a bit!
I agree - I'd prefer just no music at all and just the sound of the water and boat and engine sounds... But I do luv your channel
1:12 Josh's hair goes chicken style. 😊
😂😂😂
Should never have set off
Looks more like a speedboat 😂😂
Were you going a bit fast? It looked like it, excuse my ignorance
That was great but scary take care
It was very scary at the time Carol I can assure you. Kind regards Diane 😊
No life jackets crazy people
we think the scary thing is that bababa bloody so called music
Sorry I can't please everyone 😂 most people love that song! It's called Ratatouilles Kitchen if you'd like to listen to it some more 😅
If you were driving on the road and were documenting it you would have your licence revoked by now??
Xx
foreshadowing...
Please wear a life jacket

Very interesting but a bit click baitish, you were in no danger.
Are you a son-husband?
son...thats why he calls her mum
I was wondering why a grown man lives on a narrow boat with his parents but hey ho, each to their own 😊
