  • In this video, you are viewing a ride aboard a Breda/Alstom 3000 series legacy railcar operating from Twinbrook to Glenmont as the "Last Red line train" of the night. The Rockville and Shady Grove stations were closed for rebuilds until mid-January of 2022.
    As you may know, there were no Kawasaki 7000 series trains in service from mid-October to June 2022 because of a Blue line train derailment on October 18. All railcars had been taken out of service temporarily for investigations, resulting in reduced frequencies, which was why Metro had been running entirely lagacy 2000/3000 and a few 6000 series railcars. As of mid 2022, eight 7000 series trains are running on the line.
    In the upcoming years, the 2000/3000 series railcars are to be replaced with the Hitachi Rail 8000 series, and if more options of up to 800 railcars be exercised, the 6000 series would be retired also.

    Great video as always! I just hope that Metro doesn't make the same mistake when the 8ks come in to replace the 2ks/3ks. I think that they should keep some of the best performing ones until they can't run anymore. That way, they'll be in a better position just in case something like this happens again.

      Thanks! I am sure that Metro will preserve a pair of 2k or 3k, or either one since they are identical railcars. I am hoping the 8000s will be far more reliable than the 7k cars.

    Very nice video! I miss riding the metro as I did a lot with my father and I. We went to D.C with it. Took the MARC as well!

      You're not alone, I remember riding Metro a lot as a child with my dad. What I miss the most of Metro is the older railcars.

    What were you doing that made you want to catch the last train of the night and what did you do after you got to Glenmont from now just tell what you can since I know it’s been over a year since you did this

      I was just doing it for fun. I went home for the night once I got to Glenmont since that was the station I started at (which explains why I rode the last train on the Red line). I haven't ridded Metro frequently because I had moved states.

      It was the last train of the night, so I would assume about 10 minutes. As the operator was saying in the video "We will be holding momentarily until all trains have cleared the platform and everybody has had a chance to go home". At major transfer stations, especially Metro Center, trains would always do that.

    • @SuperWorldRailFanProductions
      @SuperWorldRailFanProductions  2 года назад +1

      @@FinnxMcxMissile I had paused the video there, but my guess would be that the operator may have made a mistake announcing the last trains at Metro Center since the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines serve the lower level there, and in that case, there was a Blue line train to Franconia at Metro Center. As for Gallery Place and Ft. Totten, it might be that the last Green and Yellow line trains might have already left on the lower level by the time this train got there, even though upon arrival at Gallery Place, you can hear a train leaving on the lower level. That was most likely a Yellow line train to Huntington.

      The last trains of the night for the redline meet at metro center to wait for the last blue and orange line train. The last Redline train to shady grove waits briefly at gallery place for the green line. The last silver line train waits at east falls for the last orange line. It’s confusing because if you want the green line in the direction of Branch ave. you have to get off at metro and take the blue line to L’Enfant.

    What In The World Is All This Popping Noise U Got Going On Filming This Video It Sound’s Quite Annoying As Heck

    • @SuperWorldRailFanProductions
      @SuperWorldRailFanProductions  2 года назад

      Sometimes my arms were getting tired of holding the camera, so I had been alternating hands. Most importantly, that might be the sound of the lens "IR cut filter" adjusting focus given this was filmed at night, and during the video at times, I pointed my camera to face outside the window. Strong illumination can also be the cause of popping noise since at times, the camera was adjusting to the bright lighting inside the railcar.
