John Willys, Willys Automobile Company-Circa 1912 (Pronounced Will-S), the Willies came in because he owned many, many plants making parts and they became known locally as Willie's plants because it was hard to say Willys's, according to the son of a former 1928 employee of the company. Great businessman and solid vehicles and for many years nipping at Henry Ford's heels. Always great knowing it's being driven and used. Show boats are a hole in the water where you throw away a lot of money. Really love your work, neat, neat, neat, neat every single bit. Even the exhaust note is spot on by my book. Gotta be one of the best RM on the planet for this truck. Useable, clean finish everywhere. During the 1960's I grew up driving a stock 1952 which I sold ten years ago. It was the five bar grill and small back window.
I love those old Willy I had one long ago with a 283 chevy but was not as Beautiful as yours You guys can be very proud of the job you did, and the owner can be very proud to have such a beautiful truck in my book jeep has no vehicle to match this one, Thank you for showing I enjoy a lot
Looks like a dream. With all of the resources that Jeep division has at there fingertips. Taking what people have done to there old trucks. They surely could have come up with something better than what they brought out. I’m 6’ foot. And I don’t really feel comfortable in the new one’s to tight inside and not much headroom. What they could have had if they would have add a few inches here and there to make the new one look like this. But then you have the government involved with all the belts and bags. Wouldn’t it be nice to sign a waiver that you don’t want all of that.
the battery is in a steel battery box in the willys original location under the passenger floor board mounted to the frame rail up high. The ac has a factory compressor for the 5.3 gm ls based engine and the evaporator unit is behind the dash on the passenger side
Great looking resto mod! Did you use the original frame and axles? Getting ready to start on my 51 Willy's and looking at the various options currently.
Great job,,,love those seats,,did you make them sit farther back,,know most sit way to close to the wheel for me,,,just finishing up a 53 frame up restoration all original,, but sure like that guy...Where did you get the electronics
The seat was a big concern because the customer is quite tall. We spent a lot of time building it to fit and made the back rests slightly thinner to give a bit more room to tip the seat back for comfort. As to electronics, the entire wiring harness was custom done in house and we used a stand alone engine/transmission harness with a factory gm computer to run it all. Truck has driven all over the country and has been quite reliable for him.
I wonder if that’s my old truck ??? I sold it in Phx. Mine was still off road only. With a Boss 302 under the hood. But other than the motor and tires it was original. Drove like a Mack truck !!
The entire chassis is from a jeep grand wagoneer. It has the late model model 20 rear axle with one piece shafts. it has held up very well behind the 5.3 and he has a ton of miles on it.
I used a company called RS gauge works in Arizona. He is usually about a year out and it takes many many months to get gauges back but did a good job. The other option would be Dakota Digitals custom shop where they can fit modern analog gauges. Both options take lots of time but are worth the efforts.
i used a company by the name of Rs gauge works in Arizona. He modified and restored the gauges, added electronic internals for electronic speedometer and added a mini tachometer
a vacuum windshield wiper motor? really? just for show or does it work? my experience- not very reliable. let off the gas to get a quick wipe. excellent job on the truck. wish I owned it.
I cant remember the exact color. This was painted by classic customs in phoenix before I opened my paint and body shop. They did an amazing job on it and it has held up very well
I was over whelm with the work you done, I have a 61 plus looking forward to speaking with someone but your contact number is not working please up date Ron
Any suggestions from your professional view of someone else in the field of restoration? I’m writing from NJ if I would appreciate you sharing the information thanks.

Thank you for the comment. I agree that new cars just don't have what the old ones did. No class, no style and way too much big brother.
Love the interior, Spartan with style. Nice.
Thank you

Love this build and what's under the hood. Where did you place the car battery and AC unit under the hood? Didn't see it in the video.
the battery is in a steel battery box in the willys original location under the passenger floor board mounted to the frame rail up high. The ac has a factory compressor for the 5.3 gm ls based engine and the evaporator unit is behind the dash on the passenger side

Nothing original was used accept the modified body.
Not a low budget rebuild , pretty classy
Thank you
How much does a project like that cost ya?

I like the Willys. What did you use for the electronic dash? Using5.3 LS Gen3 with a 4l60e transmission.
I had a company called RS gauge works custom build the gauges from a stock cluster with modern internals.
I like the seats, what did they come out of?
We're custom built
I wonder if that’s my old truck ???
I sold it in Phx. Mine was still off road only. With a Boss 302 under the hood. But other than the motor and tires it was original. Drove like a Mack truck !!
nope this one still had the original engine and transmission in it when we started.
What did you use for the rear axle?
The entire chassis is from a jeep grand wagoneer. It has the late model model 20 rear axle with one piece shafts. it has held up very well behind the 5.3 and he has a ton of miles on it.
Where did you hide the battery. I'm having my 48 Willys pickup redone and we are not sure where to put the battery
We did an under cab frame mounted battery
Could you please tell me who did your gauges and how can they be located

What is the cost to have one rebuilt almost identical?
unfortunately im no longer doing custom builds.
Any way I can pay you for advice? I'm not having ANY luck finding parts. I'm hoping you can help me find someone to replace my gauges.
i used a company by the name of Rs gauge works in Arizona. He modified and restored the gauges, added electronic internals for electronic speedometer and added a mini tachometer
Looking greatcoat bad they don’t sell them anymore.
I know! They are hard to find also.
You sale today.?
Where u guys located or shop
Sorry my shop is no longer in business
a vacuum windshield wiper motor? really? just for show or does it work? my experience- not very reliable. let off the gas to get a quick wipe. excellent job on the truck. wish I owned it.
It actually works. Have a vacuum resi. Mounted under the cab and the motor was rebuilt.
Jeep could probably make a ton of loot selling them .
They definitely could!
Como se llama el color que le aplicaron
I cant remember the exact color. This was painted by classic customs in phoenix before I opened my paint and body shop. They did an amazing job on it and it has held up very well
