Mitchell Johnson sung to the crease by the Barmy Army as he cops a Golden Duck 😂 The Ashes, 2010/11

- That time Mitchell Johnson walked out to bat for the final time in the 2010/11 Ashes series and was sung to the crease by the Barmy Army. He was out first ball to Chris Tremlett and was sung all the way back. What an atmosphere!

I'll admit this. Mitchell Johnson always dished it out and also delivered on the pitch but he always took it well. Credit to Australia. Also genuinely good in the com box
I've been watching the Australian coverage when I've been able to this series, their ex players are absolutely superb on commentary
On this accasion all Mitchell Johnson could do was hang his head and say nothing
Spot on. A great credit to cricket 🏏
It is humbling how terribly nice the fast bowlers are when they arrive in the comms box and with TMS. I actually like Glen now!!
This for me encapsulates why the sporting rivalry between England and Australia is so great. Mitch copped it big time this series and admitted himself that the barmy army did a number on him. He absolutely murdered us three years later. It’s these stories that keep the game alive and vibrant and make a summer of ashes cricket such a pleasure. A fierce rivalry, occasionally a hostile one, but one which for the vast majority of the time is rooted in respect and affection.
"He bowls to the left, he bowls to the riiiiiiight, that Mitchell Johnson, his bowling is sh*te!" Hahaha gotta love the barmy army. You'd think England were at home.
The way he destroyed eng in the 2013 ashes was amazing
I was there that day, and believe me there was hardly an Aussie to be seen.
The SCG is like a home game tbf
@@fiendken6014they won it last time in aus 2011 so that not a big deal 😮
Yeah but he had the last laugh didn’t he?!?!?!
One of the greatest sporting moments of all time.
Absolutely. One couldn't ask for a better script as an Englishman. Bill Lowry sounds in tears when he hands the commentary over whilst the English fans are chanting that infamous song. Cleaned bowled comes swiftly for a Golden 🦆 😎
I see this moment here as the catalyst for the summer of Mitch Johnson 3 years later. He got his revenge in the most dominant way, literally breaking apart England’s XI. One of the best comeback stories in sport
It was the moustache that did it
Yes, he ended Trott's and Swann's careers.
@@drahcirnevarc9152 Trott 100% and I'd argue Pietersen too (his behaviour was only worth putting up with when he was on top form) but Swann's elbow was agony to bowl with even after two surgeries to put it right. He only agreed to go because there were no other spinners ready to step up. If he'd been able to bowl 90-100% fit he wouldn't have stepped down.
Perhaps the catalyst was not hearing any home support. Imagine being an Aussie batsman coming out to that welcome in Sydney. Johnson was a rabbit in the headlights here. Any supposed Australian cricket fan should feel ashamed watching this. This was Johnsons hour of need and the Australian cricket support was woefully lacking.
Watching this to cheer me up after a dismal (though expected due to lack of practice) 1st day in the 1st test of 2021/22 Ashes.
Choosing to bat first was a schoolboy error.
Coofywobbles
England are getting mushroom stomped
@@TBrl8 couldn't agree more.....Root although our best player by a mile is a very poor captain....been saying it for years
Australia had no practice either....
I'll never get tired of hearing this
The rivalry was something else, they knew he was a class bowler and he had respect but damn did he love playing against us, getting heavy defeats and he loved every minute of it. Barmy Army never fail to disappoint 🏴
At this stage, I don't think he actually did have respect. He was largely rubbish this series and his mechanics had deserted him. Obviously a few years later he made them eat their lyrics big time.
@@mophead9191 exactly. He was genuinely rubbish in 2009 and 2010/11 and that's why the redemption story of 2013/14 was so incredible. Hats off to him for that.
That series was absolutely brilliant. One of the best I’ve ever seen in watching England since 1985.
He suffered badly in that ashes series. But boy did he get his revenge 3 years later
Made the whole English team his biatch
@@ryangreen45 humiliated in his own backyard though 😂
@@ryangreen45 He had one good series. He was rubbish in all the others.
@@ryangreen45 ye but 2015 not one ashes in his holl career he was good
Oh boy. Mitchell Johnson loping in with the lopsided run-up and the handlebar moustache in that series was truly terrifying stuff. Like a hyena smelling blood and closing in on wounded prey (Trott)
I saw a fantastic interview with Mitchell Johnson where they asked him about the Mitchell Johnson song ... apparently he used to sing a song that his daughter loved while he was at his mark getting ready to bowl and they asked him if that was to drown out the English fans and he said something like "sort of, but also because it was such a catchy song I ended up singing it with 'em if I didn't sing something else" ... for me he was what the Ashes is all about, excellent cricketer who gave and took great sledging.
I just love the banter and rivalry between us and the Aussies - long may it continue!
"none of this he bowls to the left he bowls to the right, that Mitchell Johnson can bowl alright!!!"- Bumble Lloyd 2013/14
Yeh but this isn’t 2013 is it , it’s 2010 and he was all over the shop , so what’s your point ?
@@patorr69 literally 1 good series in 4 against us 😂
What a bloody atmosphere 🔥
I’m Australian, and I still think this is the most funniest cricketing moments ever
When we had him it was a sight to behold, but he got massive payback in more than one Ashes Series. Quality bowler!
Don't poke the bear they say . Mitchell johnson unleashed a tsunami in 2013/14 .one of the scariest fast bowling performances I have ever seen in a series . He put 3/4 english batters to retirement that series
Yeah, basically he had one good series. That's it.
Firstly, only 1 batsman went into retirement, and it wasn't because of Johnson. Secondly, he lived off 1 good series, hardly a world class bowler was he.
South Africa straight after?
Batsmen not batters mate. Plus he didn’t that’s just simply inaccurate
@@itsBATSMENnotBATTERS the laws of the game have changed for the better, keep up ya dinosaur
God the barmy army were so loud here what a atmosphere. What a series this was and what a team we had. Glory days seem so long ago
Aha those days are no more thankfully lol. But the Barmy Army are always brilliant
Your lot aren't too bad these days
The glory days are coming back. Ashes 2023, England are clear favourites this time.

Bairstow Brain Fart 🧠💨
Australia 2 England 0.
Fair to say our fans were enjoying the moment...and why not... extremely rare England winning down under...mitch got his own back though..he turned into an absolute storm on England's next trip🌪️🌪️🌪️
Injury is cruel. Tremlett deserved so much more than three Test matches.
He played 12 not 3.
I liked Mitchell, when his rhythm was right he was a very fine bowler.
And a character . Not a robot like today's players
He destroyed us in the next Ozzie ashes lol when he was on form he was devastating.
Huge england fan but my god I respect Mitchell Johnson after 2013/14, it was a sight to behold. Swinging it at 90mph +. I don't think any batsman ever could have handled mitch in that series
As a England supporter always liked Johnson dished it out and took it he got it back a couple of years later
Tremmers was unbelievable
Just WOW... Imagine having to go back 10 years to find something good to show about English test cricket. It was posted just under 3 weeks ago, amazing what a couple of weeks can do to your bravado! Dream on BT
Why haven’t I seen this… this is amazing!!
He bowls to the left, he bowls to the right
Love the Ashes, nothing like it, even though we’ve lost the first test I’m still looking forward to the next test, it’s so special, come on England!! But Australia are a bloody good bowling outfit
F
Lol
Superb commentary during Tremlett's run up to when he bowled him.
Regardless of who won this battle, Mitchell Johnson well and truly won the war 3 years later in the 2013/2014 Ashes Series. 🇦🇺
Salt?
Yes the blind squirrel definitely found a nut in that series.
Sing him the song & watch him still cry.
Pure Theatre. Well done to whoever brought the Jersey flag too 01:20
Lol. I was down under in 2013 when Mitchell Johnson completely killed us. So he had the last laugh over the Barmy Army
God, me too. Was brutal.
1 good series?
I bet that song still haunts him to this day.
Amazing rivalry and back and forth with Mitch, great competitor and cool dude. Who's laughing more today though?
I was there.... there wont ever be a moment in time like that for English cricket ever again.
And this song REALLY did get to him!
Hehehehehehe
Tremlett looked like an executioner, lazily tossing the ball a couple of times before delivering the coup de grace. What a moment.
00:38 ooooo the pain in Bill Lowry's voice 😭😭😭 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😘😘😘🏴🏴🏴
I understand the words in the title but it’s like a drunk predictive text
Geez that song ended up backfiring in a big way 😂
He's a good sport
Barmy army vibes 😎
God I miss those days. I as a follower of England will never witness them again😏
Oh memories
England supporters are something else. Wow!!!
I don't know anything about this sport but I love English football.
Best fans barmy army...
The world wasn't ready for moustache Johnson
Fair to say he got his own back.
The good old days
Look at our limbs with cricket celebrations ,count me in gonna go to a match 🏴
Why is there not a "love this" button?
Looking forward to the start of the Ashes.
There going in for the kill ahhh first ball remember listening to this with my dad what a moment
MitchellJohnson.. one of THE BEST.. revenge must have tasted sweet in 13-14!!👍
Perhaps true, but to come out to the crease in your own back yard to that reception should be a source of shame and embarrassment for every Australian cricket fan.
He nailed us later but this was priceless
He sure got his revenge though. Awesome bowler (and a half decent batter) when conditions suited him.
Absolutely love it.
Super Mitch!!!
What a better time!
Oh the drama,s and fun of cricket, luv luv luv it, 👄
He bowls to the left. He bowls the right
This has to beat the best cricket moment ever. From just before when Haddin was out and the Barmy Army were already in full voice to getting Johnson out the very next ball.
I’m here off the back of the drawn 2023 series which has to go down as one of the best ashes ever and a very aggressive yet unlucky England who tried to win every game by simply having a right go at the Aussies while they played more “to not lose”.
What a delivery though...
Back when both teams had top players and The Ashes was still relevant.
@Rodger Rodgers Yh now it’s just not so fun
@Rodger Rodgers Yh fair enough
I'll be an Aussie till the day I die and we're playing the poms, so it's bloody relevant.
Tell Head playing for his spot in the team that his hundred in a session wasn't relevant.....
Actually no, This was the beginning of a rebuild for Aussie cricket. typical POMs have a decent series and think it was some kind of era. Since 1989 England has generally been pretty pathetic.
THANKS BARMY ARMY FOR LIGHTING UP A DYNAMITE 😂
That duck walking across the screen was so unnecessary 😂😂😂
I love that duck when it appears, it’s just the final icing on the cake lol
Doesn't get any better
This is what real cricket is
Chris tremlett was class
Was buzzing to sing this when I lived the dream and went in 2013
Didn't happen
Yeah hear ya. I went to 94/95 and 98/99. Still saw us win at Adelaide and Melbourne though.
@@bazd884 haha yeah can't beat it though, even when ya get slapped up!
Best Barmy Army song ever 🤣
A few years later, he then committed months of blue murder against the England team and handed their arses to them wicket after wicket. Bravo Mitch.
nice footage
That was a good ball he got out too...
Nothing better than England v Australia
This is feeling like a very long time ago now...
He decimated England the next year 😂
🔥
I was electric and I was there for it 😊
Did he go back in & cry like most Aussies.
And we all know what happens 3 years later
I have no idea what they are saying. What are the lyrics?
Best fans in the world us English 🏴🏴🏴
Test match being played at Headingley I see! 😂
Like a home test!
Which test was it
Didn't Anderson bowl him after he mouthed off also?
The day the scg turned into Edgbaston!!!
Does anyone know the lyrics of this song by the barmy army.
He bowls to the left!
He bowls to the right!
That Mitchell Johnson,
His bowling is shyte!
The funniest one was when the barmy army kept no balling Brett Lee on every single delivery
It's all about "THE MO"
Aussies big in giving it, but oh boy when the chips were against them didn't like taking it 😂
Actually we love it when people give it to us,. Problem is English cricket has been so pathetic for nearly 40 years us Aussie prefer playing India and STH Africa who are decent competition.
@@lordporcupine8767
Definitely
India,South Africa and NZ are better teams
We really are due another win in oz
And boy did he make them pay 3 years later 😂
Fast forward a couple of years to the 2013-14 Ashes in Australia.
I think this moment was a good reason to fire up a Mitchell Johnson that destroyed the careers of half the English team. Pietersen, Prior, Trott, Swann, Bresnan, Tremlett, Carberry didn't play again.
Even Cook and Bell were never the same again.
Nobody understands English humour. It's there to reduce the opponent to a emotional quivering wreck. The opponent then gives up. It's how the English defeated the Romans, Vikings Norman's, Napoleon, Germans etc. If it came down to a actual fight. We just hired the Scots.
Great Comment so I will forgive the totally inappropriate and unnecessary apostrophe in "Norman's"...
Miss Tony Greig.
Man got bodied haha
Mitchell Johnson was so easy to wind up. Just a walking target. Quack quack
He got the last laugh though
He did alright a few years later 😬
