"Fun" Fact: inside buildings in the town, with the creaking of ambiance of the floors and walls, you can actually sometimes hear scared breathing and sobbing, implying that there are other people in the town aside from Gregori. Makes it more horrifying that there are still people stuck in their homes, praying to God they won't turn into one of those... things...
Father Grigori's perspective of tending to his flock and doing the work of salvation and so on really makes a lot of sense, considering he's releasing all these zombies from their suffering
So, I think we can all agree that we had our own “ First time” with Ravenholm yeah? Pretty much everything about this chapter is perfect, the atmosphere is so palpable you can practically smell the burning carcasses and oil spills all around town. For me the experience was even more terrifying than some peoples for a really weirdly specific reason: when I first played half life 2 I had recently come back from visiting some family in Ecuador (specifically Cuenca, beautiful place, highly recommend it) Which actually looked a bit like Ravenholm in some areas, even the graveyard I had sworn I saw in real life, so the Juxtaposition from remembering my time in Cuenca to seeing the town be in complete ruins made it even scarier
Just the initial sight of Ravenholm made me unable to sleep when I played HL2 the first time. And months after, my scaredy cat arse finally got to continue. It's a sad story just as it's horrifying. For most of the chapter you are the only human who hasn't been zombified. Imagine how Ravenholm would've been if it wasn't shelled. That, coupled with quite the abundant population of zombies, makes you feel more alone than when you are truly isolated in, let's say, an environment where there's no other living being around. Seeing Father Grigori would always give me a sigh of relief, simply because he was the other only one like me, and the want to reduce that loneliness away by getting an actual companion was exactly why I managed to push through this chapter. Unfortunately, even after having met with comrades post-Ravenholm, I would have to experience yet another episode of depressing isolation in Highway 17. It sucks to realize that even after having gone through the events of HL1, I just still wasn't used to the loneliness this entire journey evoked. In fact, I still aren't. It all weighs a little bit worse with each play (or these days, watch). Our science boi could really use a hug or more.
Your comment about the hug - this video I've watched recently brilliantly summarizes what Gordon's likely feeling at the end of EP2: ruclips.net/video/YMhs-tD_e24/видео.html Ravenholm also scarred me when I was a kid playing it the first time. The fast zombies were terrifying and I quit playing when I got jumped by one the first time.
@@Sexy_Nutella I just watched the video and---------that gets me, and now I gotta watch through everything again to have a hug-counter for him within the canon. All I can recall is Alyx hugging him in the EP1 intro chapter. The spinning machine became my bf in Ravenholm and I was the clingy gf staying right next to it. And the flammable barrels were my favorite thing to throw. The sounds of the poison and fast zombies though, fuck them. Just fuck them. :'D
this was definitely the part i loved the most from hl2. i also love how you appreciate and show every little detail the game has to offer. you just earned yourself a new subscriber.
Yeah, it was important for me when I did this series that I play as if it's my first time, and to show viewers everything I can. So I approached this as if its a demo for the game
Brilliant work here! I gota say...I enjoy horror movies, and even I have an unsettling reaction to the screams of burning zombies. I watched your original black mesa, now i'm watching this one..your doing amazing, so decided I should drop a comment and tell you that.
Thank you for the kind words and thought :) I played ravenholm when I was 12, and once the Fast Zombies appeared I was so scared I shut off the game haha. Hope my future content is still entertaining for you!
The first time I played through this chapter, my bravery went below zero. The atmosphere is unnerving. You hear rattling, old machines, questionable wind sounds, zombies, and sometimes you’ll hear someone also getting scared. It’s also very lonely, even worse than me playing GMod alone in gm_construct. The first time I saw a fast zombie charging at me, I was gazed, and shot the thing till my entire round of the SMG ran out. I mean, look at the fast zombie. It’s flesh is literally revealing itself. Fast headcrabs are rather terrifying, and they can be hard to deal with. But that’s all in the past now. I can go through this level easily. I’m so glad that Father Grigori was around. If i was just alone, that would make the whole chapter even scarier. I do wonder what happened to him after the graveyard fight. Sad enough that we probably won’t be able to know. I do hope he ends up surviving.
If you go back into the cemetery after the load screen, he'll still be there gunning down zombies behind the fire. Not sure if that was intentional, but if so he might have made it out alive
I am definitely not this good always haha. The level of quality shown in this video is, like you said, a result of me going through the maps over and over again until I can present a run that I'm satisfied with.
This chapter has so many gimmicks and tricks you can do. Here are the things I've done the first time I played this chapter: -Launched sawblades using gravity gun -Shot washing machine with gravity gun against a zombie (they got smashed) -Shot one of the spinning with the gravity gun to spin it The replayability for this level will be insane once I finish HL2.
23:31 I played through this game for like 25 times, yet I have NEVER seen this scene. Not once in my entire life. I always just shit my pants and run away as fast as possible when the Fast Zombies arrive.
15:57 homie had to sit down and rethink his life after that one...

Yeah, first time I heard a lady sobbing from one of the buildings, I was pretty scared out of my mind haha
Well it makes more sense that more rebels survived combine's attack on this town
Father Grigori's perspective of tending to his flock and doing the work of salvation and so on really makes a lot of sense, considering he's releasing all these zombies from their suffering
Definitely! His voicelines are great for that reason.
"Return to your true nature"
still, burnin em causes them immense pain

Totally. The fast zombies were terrifying for me when I first played it.
I really like how ravenholm has no music except when you enter and leave, really adds to the atmosphere
Yeah, the ambience of the town is creepy and amazing
26:22 I remember the nightmare of those howls, screams and the drainpipe clanks
First time I played this I was scared out of my mind. My older cousin who was watching made fun of me for it haha

I'll tell you more. Noticed all the bodies behind locked rooms .... yeah add 2 and 2
2:44 big brain move

Thanks so much! I'm glad you like the way I play. HL2 is just full of detail and I try my best to show off all the hard work put into it.
You're actually playing it just like how developers expected players to play. Liked it.

12:15 it was incredible! Killing a lot zombies too headcrab burning up and did you see a person in the distance strung up jeje.
Yeah I did notice the guy hung up, I made a note of it in the description! You can see him in the next map too with the Fast Zombies.
11:52 Yabba my icing
And 20:28 many zombies came out, glad to see you back friend ^^ and good play in chapter 6a *We don't go to Ravenholm.*
Thank you! I know my uploading has slowed but I am definitely still aiming to finish the game before Alyx comes out.
@@Sexy_Nutella no problem ^^
16:59
hush
*they come*
17:28 beware however that will not always work because fast zombies can climb all the way to the roof break through the window and attack you
Ravenholm is the most horror chapter for me, so many zombies, and new zombies too like fast zombies and poison zombies
The zombie with a ton of poison crabs in the head distrubes me
Yeah, the Fast Zombies scared me the most but these ones (Poison Zombies) are equally as disturbing.

I wonder how many zombies and headcrabs grigori killed (before gordon arrived at ravenholm)
Judging by his handiwork - a lot
Do you keep replaying the sections until you do it almost perfectly or are you this good always?

Father Grigory = BADASS PREACHER 100
Indeed
I swear you should unlock an achievement for blasting off those fast zombies mid-air xD
Super satisfying to do that :)

Wouldn't blame you, I did the same thing when I first played xD
Ravenholm scared me.
Those fast zombies made me pause the game when I was a kid lol

Love those blink and you'll miss it moments. Reminds me of seeing the Flood in the swamps in Halo 1 before actually fighting them.
Subscribe to this channel it works for me to pass the game to me and make good content
is this real half life 2?
If you're asking if I'm using any mods, this is a version of the game called "Half-Life 2: Update".
