    You’re maybe sick of hearing this but I got a Mark Phipps one bad egg and it’s been a revelation for me - I’m 82kg or so, surf in Ireland. Since have sold many of my smaller boards (Kept Pyzel Ghost 6’4 and Evo 5’5 - btw consider trying that board in a much smaller size, it’s a strange one but superb sized right). Also worth noting the Phipps board for me surfed very differently 7’0 (thicker stringer, heavier glassed, more solid in general) vs 6’10 (sold as felt very different, and I felt I was doing a bad job of trying to surf it like a short board whereas the 7’0 changed my approach entirely). Great videos 👍

      Haven't heard anyone comment on the Mark Phipps board before.
      Thanks for the positive feedback

      Thanks getting in touch and sorry for the late response. I've just seen this and I'm not sure that i was getting notifications on comments.
      Whats your weight / ability. What size volume did you go with? What waves do you ride it in?

    Good review! which board is good one for bigger guys in small days?

      Thanks. How small are you thinking. I've experimented loads with grovel boards - chest high and below. Or are you thinking average chest to head high?

      @@canuta2008 Where are you based. If your in the UK the best grovel board i have ever owned is the Cre8tion - Hot Pepper Jelly. I'm just getting another one shaped -review coming soon. Perfect for weak UK waves.
      If you're somewhere with a bit more power i would try a fish - perhaps the Lost Puddle Fish?

    Mate , first thurster shape ive ridden since the. Nintiez! Had some real shit surfs with it. Like 3 surfs, today at Harlyn,2nd surf on this shape, 4ft! Agree veryt is great, but it is high performance, do not understimate this machine, like you say , small sweet spot , thruster city!!

      Yeah. It definitely needs the right conditions to come alive. Also takes a bit of getting used to if you've not been on a similar board for a while. But when you get it going it flies.
      I bet harlyn had been pumping the last few days

    How would you compare the lost retro ripper to this ?

    • @BigGuyBoardsSurfshop
      @BigGuyBoardsSurfshop  4 года назад +1

      I haven't ridden the retro ripper, but the el patron looks like more of a modern performance shortboard template. Good in decent waves.
      The ripper looks like it's got a bigger wave range - like it'll go in bigger and smaller waves, but possibly not as responsive in the same volume.

      This is exactly the question I've been trying to research. Also seeing if there's a review on the XL versions of the Phantom and Ghost.
