In this episode, we begin building the back deck for our home and we get something that we've needed for a long time...
You two are really moving along on the addition. Boys and their toys, Spence sure looks very, very happy with his mower. How did Beau like her ride with her daddy? Watching your relationship with each other is such a joy to watch❤️
You all are probably my favorite couple on RUclips. I look forward to every Monday for the new video. I just wish they were either longer or uploads were more frequent. I know building a house and raising a child is a full time job in itself, but we love seeing you all.

Hey guys, I've been on my 5.5 acres for 20 years now. While I've always had a preparedness mind set lately I've really been focusing on making my property even more self sufficient. I love your batch water heater. Looking back the first thing that I should have done first was... "GET A TRACTOR WITH A FRONT-END LOADER." With a few implements I could have saved so much time, energy, and money. The countless hours spent digging holes and the physical wear and tear on the body could have all been done with very little effort in a fraction of the time. Lifting, leveling, moving, pulling, towing, mowing, trenching, rototilling, splitting wood... There are countless implements that you can hook up to a pto. HAVING A TRACTOR IS A GAME CHANGER.
It’s amazing to follow your journey and see things happen step by step. I’m sure many viewers find it inspiring to see the message of hard work pays off 🙌💯
I've been in construction since i was 14 - working with my uncle's contractor business (mostly framing houses) until i was 23, then went off on my own in the finish carpentry business (Baseboard, trim, molding, hanging doors, ceiling caps, etc) for high end homes in the greater southern Ontario area. I've worked on homes ranging from just $100,000 to $20,000,000 - doing loads of different custom woodwork and what not. I've seen some really nice craftsmanship over the years to say the least.
I have never seen framework done so nicely and PROPERLY. You guys have not once cut corners to my knowledge, and have gone beyond the status quo. Even the framing has been done in such a way that your home will last for a very very long time. Even on the million dollar homes i have had the pleasure to work on, the framers are always cutting corners.
I am extremely impressed by how you two have handled the building of your home, if that means anything from a random youtube user lol. I can not stress enough how well done everything has been. The fact that Spencer has no background in construction makes it that much more impressive. He could definitely have a career in contracting if he wanted to lol. Also VERY fascinated on how well Mackenzie has dived straight into this lifestyle and has learned how to do all the things she does. Bravo you two, bravo!

Nice words. Since as a Superintendent for the Structural/ Framing I can't turn off my QC. I noticed right off that there are no headers over windows in the house. On the new part some do, some don't. Did you not notice that the corners don't have the mandatory 3 studs. He will when it comes to hanging drywall or sheathing that there is nothing to hang to in the corners of the thru walls. Please if you want to encourage, don't tell him his work is Not missing steps that will improve this build. If a child is about to try and cross a busy freeway you have to try and stop them instead of saying Good Luck am I right. What a cool lawnmower and it was so cute seeing daddy holding Beau while christening the new ride!!! I love how the bull decides to test you guys ever so often to see if he can get past you to get into the mischief. I think Bear thought he should have had the bread instead of the fish! Wow, nice mower...the grass looks great! Sweet Beau, in a few more years and she will be cutting that grass for you! I like how you all think yelling at the bull with a "good 'ole country boy" accent will help, LOL. Bear is such a good pup!

This is so much more than an off-grid build story, it's a love story for sure.
One of my favorite daddy memories is my little girl riding with me as I mowed. She would be on about 2 minutes before she was asleep. The second I stopped to hand her over to mom.... wide awake. Lol This went on for years, she still recalls it as well.
So sweet ending. Beau looked so perfect sitting in her Daddy's lap. 1st of many and one day...sooner than you can imagine she will be saying , Hey Dad let me do it by myself!😊 Bear was having a hoot of a time at the fish pond🐕🦈. McKenzie you are a trooper having a baby and never miss a beat just picked right back up where you left off....baby in tote. You guys are such an incredibly perfectly matched couple! Thank you for allowing us into your world.🌏

I’m so happy Spenser got a riding mower! Y’all have adjusted so well to homestead life! I have one tip I live by, it’s said 2 is 1 and 1 is none, I say 3 is 1 and 1 is none. I like plenty of back ups in all sorts of items. Saves money by not running back x forth to the store or waiting on online orders! As Mackenzieisms go, “ don’t break your crotch” is up there 🤣🤣🤣🤣 always with the comic relief. My favorite was “ liquid nails “ 💅 ( wet fingernails) 🤣🤣🤣 Love y’all a bunch, I’ve fully adopted y’all as family, ya ik I’m nuts 🥜🤣 You have a way of making us feel that way. God bless 👶🏻🐶♥️
I look so forward to your videos. Only problem is they don’t last long enough. That’s from a purely selfish point of view. I could watch your channel all day. In fact when I first started listening or rather watching, you were well into the build. So I went back and binged watched from the very beginning. It is so wonderful to see the love between the two of you and now with Beau. I love the interaction between the two of you and you can see the genuine love. I waited until today to watch the video because I wanted it to last as long as possible. I’ll take the video no matter how long it is. It’s a happy spot in my day. Take care of each other and continue that beautiful love.

I second that. I love watching every week to see how things are coming along. I wish they would do 2 videos a week. I just can not wait until the next video. And seeing them have a baby was awesome. Now we get to see the baby grow too along with the house being completed. And yesterday I found out what my daughter is having a girl. I will be a grammy for the 1st time.

Three years ago my husband and I moved to Texas to retire near our daughter. We bought our forever home here in South Texas and while it is in great shape it is 60 years old and needs some updating, not a lot but some. We have enjoyed watching how you two, and now three, are getting along. Not sure just where in Texas you are but when you get rain we often do so we know how the storms in Texas can be. Hoping you can get into the house soon even if you just get one bedroom and bath livable as it will be easier with the baby.
I love watching this, just sitting back with a cup of coffee and watch a bunch of wholesomeness. it's quite relaxing oh and good music choice :D

Try yodeling when the bull gets into the pond. He will follow the yodel, so stand where you want him to be. Also, see if he has been "rod" trained... many ranch cows know that if they step on a "rod" it will hurt, so farmers paint "rods" on roadways to keep the cows on the property (that crosses a road). Nice work (building and video), team.

Your craftsmanship and precise structural build is a pleasure to watch, and concur with. I have to laugh every time the fence in the pond subject comes up. Been there done that and that fence is going to have to go out into much deeper water to keep that bull from trying to go around it. We had a bull that refused to be fenced out of anything and it got to the point he would destroy anything built out of barbed wire and fence panels. We ended up with railroad ties for fence posts and either 2x8's or metal guard rail's, like you see along the road, for the fencing. It would have been much less trouble and money to just turn the bull into hamburger and get another bull.

Little tip that might help for hammering nails. A waffle hammer is your friend if you can afford to mark up what you are nailing into when you miss. A waffle hammer does not slide off the nail head so when you hit with the corner it still drives. They are also great for when you are nailing at weird angles and are getting uneven contact.

Hi guys, I really like you as a couple and I wish you the best and I admire you for building together not a house but a home, I have followed the construction step by step, they have done very well, just as an observation the last frame they put with wooden beams maybe 8 "x 8", I see at least one that is not displaced directly from the foundation pile, with this I do not mean that it is wrong, sorry for my comment, I am retired and I dedicated 40 years to the industrial construction , greetings and congratulations and may God always bless you as a beautiful family

I know nobody wants to fly right now to go anywhere, but there’s always a way, like renting a houseboat or a yacht for the weekend; keeps you safe from the virus and still get away just being lazy 2-3 days. Another fantastic video, this deck is another example of the super fine work you two are doing. The material and work on this deck will last for many many years. When you start doing the kitchen, think ahead and make sure you have a way to port all of your cooking fumes outside. Most fans just release into the attic. Y’all won’t have one. Make sure that you can suck out all the smoke and stuff and port it outside and your home won’t retain the doors of past meals too long. A decent hood/exhaust is a must. As hospitality people y’all know how important this is. Clean air is a happy home.
