I've been thinking about sewing a jacket with sleeves like these for days. I guess the universe is trying to give me a sign with this video to just do it, right? 🙈Great video as always! 💃
6:38 “This wasn’t the best way, but it was how my mind comprehended the task in that moment.” This shattered my perspective on seeing and garment construction. I love this so much. Thank you for shifting my perspective on how to “correctly” sew
I've been dreaming about a shirt with these exact sleeves, but the construction seemed too complicated in my mind. I'm totally gonna copy this method of altering a t-shirt pattern, I would've never thought of that! Such a perfect make as per usual, you truly are skilled 💕
I absolutely love this jacket! Very impressive interpretation and upcycle. Definitely an improvement on the original garments. I’m glad you saved the bird 😊
It dawns on me as I watch you hand stitch various pieces, for some it may seem tedious, for others a labor of love. You fall into that later category. But, there is so much more to it than that. You are looking at books and pictures and maybe museum collections for your ideas, and again there is a lot to delve into from that. You have to be able to deconstruct a picture to create a modern version. I know you’ve worked in the fashion industry, but you make it your own. The other, the era of clothing you are inspired by are all hand sewn, by candle. I can’t fathom the hours that went into making each elaborate piece. As I watch you hand stitch so much of your garments, that you are in essence, recreating that process in your modern versions. I don’t mean to say you aren’t utilizing your sewing machine, and these days they do all but pour your coffee. But, you use it judiciously. When you said you had to deconstructed your own sewing, I knew exactly how you felt. It had nothing to really do with the actual garment, but how you make your garments. You sew to make your garment last forever plus each one is an extension of you and a work of love.
Aw thank you so much! I agree that machines at this point are so all-doing that I wouldn’t even know where to start with most of them. I think it just depends on the person doing the sewing and what they’re getting out of it. For me I love putting myself into the process and seeing my hand in the outcome 🤷♀️
I enjoyed watching how you refashioned previous projects to create this one. I liked the sleeves the most. My designs are just Frankensteing various patterns as my guide for my self drafted pattern. Just very basic wardrobe staples for a mix and match. I tackled my first pair of jeans and will tackle another pair soon. This time the 30s to 60s five pocket style.
@anotherdreamgonewest I've been sewing for close to 45 years and tried various pants which most were epic failures. The jeans took me a long time but that was to keep telling myself that I can do it.
Love a good remake and this was good! I can see where the original pieces weren't quite where your normal wardrobe is and honestly clothes should be used so it's better this way. Although I may be sad if that Metallica tshirt bodice is on the chopping block as that was my favorite part. I should just make one myself then I guess 😆
Thank you! I agree clothes should be worn- and on that note Metallica gets worn quite a bit so that’s sticking around! And heck yeah you should make one- the little bodice is actually pretty straight forward.
Since I started watching your channel I learned to appreciate the reasoning and ideas behind other styles. I believe this is because you are a great teacher. Even though this is definitely not my style, I think it really looks good. :)
Looks VERY great, and good job with the lighting, I can see many of the details against the dark fabric. Out of curiosity, would you expect this garment to require regular laundering? If so, how would you do it? Do we think that it's gentle cycle safe in a washing machine?
Thank you! Still learning my way around a light reflector, and I’m glad to hear the details were visible! I probably won’t launder this unless it really needs it, but I’m pretty liberal with the gentle cycle. I do gentle cycle, cold water, woolite, and then I take the garment out immediately and press between two towels to gently soak up the moisture. I would expect something like this to do ok in the wash (it’s just cotton velveteen and likely a poly viscose satin) but the pressing process would be atrocious.
@anotherdreamgonewest thank you so much for all the effort going into lights. I promise you're doing a great job. But also I really cannot tell you how much I appreciate the washing advice. I'm learning how to make my own clothes and everything makes me anxious. I hope you have a most fabulous rest of your week!

Cutting into your creation? 😮
True badass move!
I looove the miniature reproduction of sewing up the rest of the garment. Very smart, and very adorable!
Gorgeous! (I also loved the "actual lint magnet" bit)

Thank you! I’m also glad I saved the bird, he’s a good memento of the original 🥹
I really love your outfit in the opening!

Thank you! Jeans are intimidating, kudos to you for taking that on!

I liked the original, but love the remake! It’s gorgeous and works well with your collection.

Aw thank you! This one was definitely a specific design choice, ha! But I’m glad you enjoyed the process!
I love it!
I love your videos and I enjoy them a lot. I love your top in the beginning is it your design? 😀
Gorgeous, very inspiring! One question, why did you use white instead of the pink for the back of the long slashings? Not enough pink fabric?
Its awesome!!!
