Roger Reaves on How He Smuggled $1.5B in Cocaine for Pablo Escobar (Full Interview)

- In this full-length interview, Roger Reaves, former drug smuggler for Pablo Escobar's Medellin Cartel, talks about his early life in the states of Florida and Georgia while experiencing poverty and being forced to make moonshine illegally to take care of his family after his father died. From there, he recounts moving to California after getting married and developing his love of flying planes before becoming a fireman and buying his first plane, which ultimately led to him meeting someone who talked him into fly marijuana across the border to Mexico. For his first trip, Roger made $10K which was more than twice as much as he would’ve made as a firefighter. Naturally, he quit his job and began smuggling full-time.
Moving along, Roger speaks about running into problems in Mexico after being confronted by police while he was sweeping out his plane. He revealed that the officers fired a shot next to his head, burning his skin after finding two seeds on the ground, and Roger went on to detail how he was saved from the situation. Roger explained that the officers changed their tune and wanted to work with him. He then revealed how the officers robbed him of the $2,000 he had on him and later fired shots at his plane.
He shares a story about the Mexican Federal Police capturing him and torturing him for months. Roger detailed the various methods of torture that he endured, and he spoke about never giving up any information. Roger then speaks about meeting a fellow drug smuggler named Barry Seal in 1980, who later had a movie called “American Made” starring Tom Cruise about his life. Roger revealed that they met on a plane while he was on a trip to Honduras, and Roger stated that he was surprised that Barry told him that he had just gotten out of prison. Roger then told Barry to come to California for some work, and Roger went on to detail the beginning of their working relationship, including Barry showing Roger his flying skills.
After speaking about their operation, Roger spoke about Barry’s relationship with the then-governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton. Roger then spoke about how Barry inferred that he was bribing Clinton with large amounts of money to land the planes in the state. He goes on to talk about when he found out that Barry Seal, who used to work for him in smuggling, was cooperating with the feds. Eventually, Barry testified against him to a grand jury and Congress. After speaking to several lawyers to get advice, who all told him that he had to “snitch” or go to prison for life, Roger explained that he fled to Brazil. Roger told Barry that he had a price on his head, and months later, he was killed by a man that Roger had previously met during a deal. Lastly, he talks about 79 years old, Mexican cartels using tunnels, his crazy run in the drug game, his 30-year bid in prison, spending time with his family, and more.

Yes, that came across. He accepts all without excuses, the prison years, the betrayals, loss of family life; it was a job he did well, and a way of life. He admits it'2s not a good thing. The fact that he is alive to tell his story is a better ending than so many others.

Cocaine does not just throw itself up someone’s nose, if that person did not make the decision to consume the massive amounts needed to die then he would still be here today.

Listen...this was an intriguing story, the part that hit me the hardest was the wife. For a man to come home after running rampant left right and diagonal on dangerous missions, not being there when his kids grew old. Countless birthdays and graduations, wedding anniversaries, missed..and he comes home to a cooked meal, and his clothes still there. not to mention he's the reason why his wife is a felon, and she still stayed..
Listen, You could win the lottery. Get struck by lightning. Book a trip to north Korea and shoot rock paper scissors with Kim jong UN before you EVER...EVER...find a woman this loyal these days. Out of all the fortunes this man has earned throughout his life, she was the true prized possession.

This dude is a white man in the American criminal justice system. The cj system closed a blind eye to him and gave him the benefit of the doubt. I.e. the man had a bootlegging outfit going that exploded and he never faced cj consequences. It's alot easier for a white man to be able to tell this type of story than a man of color. Hell, his grandfather shot a man in cold blood in court and got pardoned by the Governor. I don't respect this guy as no OG. He benefitted by being a white man in a white man's world.

A small amount of knowledge is a dangerous thing. Reeves has not been in possession of that gold piece for many years, now. He is a man of his word. You can believe that. He has no reason to lie. His exploits speak for themselves, and they are well vetted.

He doesn’t ask questions, he TELLS the interviewee about his own life. Instead of asking him something like: “how did you get started into the life, and at what age”. He says :” so you got into selling drugs at 12 when you lived in Georgia. You learned to fly at 19 right? But you were working with the fire department too. So you ended up switching to flying more, right?”
“Yes”
“And then you found out about the price difference in Mexico, right?”
“Yes.”
“So you brought it back north and made some money.”
“Yes”
He doesn’t even let the guy tell the story he wants to show off how much he knows about the guy, and thinks he knows everything and is the smartest guy in the room.”OK” “OK”
This man is truly a great guy IMO! His family seems to be a major part of his story, which you don't hear much! Regardless of what his past is, he cares about those close to him. 🖤🖤🖤

It's a miracle that this man made it to old age and is able to share these first-hand stories about legendary characters we been hearing about for the last 50 years. Just listening to this man you realize the kind of nerves it would take to live this life is one in a billion. When asked how did your family take being on the run his answer was my wife loved traveling. 😆 now just imagine being on the run from the American government your partner was just assassinated and you and your wife just having the time of your life. Truly mind blowing. His wife was a str8 g just like him.

Vlads interviewing skills don't encapsulate someone like Mr.Reeves. it sometimes gets annoying hear vlad tell people their own life stories 🙄 especially when he corrects people lol. Usually no one can articulate a story like the person who lived it.

Vlad is one of the worst popular crime/hip hop journalists on RUclips. He does his background research incredibly well and then spends the entire interview telling their story for them, everytime. Never elaborating or asking more about an interesting story or remark, just moving on to the next research point, completely unrelated from one another.
The amazing stories are what get this channel by, the interview technique is just painful to watch at times.

I loved everything about this interview except the part where Vlad tried to son him about the repercussions of his actions; and then solidifying his argument with some anecdotal evidence of a friend's death. We as humans can make the choice to abuse anything to the point of injury or death; even caffeine. People still *enjoy* these substances to this very day. It was illegal, he did his time, no need to dwell.

I wish this was my grandpa. So I could sit with him and listen to all these stories in true detail as well as the ones he hasn’t mentioned. The things this man got to see is a true treasure. Regardless that he brought in drugs, he wasn’t a dealer, and people had free will and choose to use. There will always be a a market for it, might as well cash in right? I’d love to know what VLAD pays these people to do these interviewees. And you have to admire VLAD’s preparation. More often than not, he’s is thoroughly prepared with facts and other info that allows him to ask the right questions. As seen with Sammy The Bull, even he was surprised at what VLAD was able to uncover.

1:15:12 this is the inevitable part of a Vlad interview where he thanks the person then proceeds to try and criticize their life story. Vlad always thinks he has to play mr. Moral high ground. He has to keep up this act so about ending on a “lesson” so that when he’s criticized about exploiting these dudes, he can say, “but I told this dude he did 30 years for his decisions.” This dude is unshakable though, he looks at Vlad like, “so what’s your point here buddy?”

Vlad I have seen Mr. Reaves on amany of these podcasts, hands down you asked the best questions and got the best overall interview!
I think there's this narrative Vlad tries to push that all this is bad - and on some level it is.
But at the same time this is the human story and it's really much more complex and gray than just a dual outcome. Roger's story represents this more clearly than I've ever heard before and I'm glad he (Roger) kept true to who he was and not get talked into a nice clean box of good or bad.

You guys… I was at work last night and this guy’s smiling at me and his wife is smiling at me, they loved my sparkly top. He kept singing Rhinestone Cowboy and then I stopped and looked at him and he goes “Lisa… I have been married to my wife for 60 years. 30 of them I was away for smuggling tons of drugs for Pablo Escobar. She stood by me the whole time.” I start crying and we all smile and it was THIS GUY. He’s got sparkly eyes and his wife is a gorgeous angel. They are coming back when I’m not so busy because I told them I’m not finished with this conversation but was super busy. I didn’t know this story but going to hold off and hear it from the horse’s mouth. Since he’s happy to share it, I’m all ears.
I’ve clearly been through some pretty major shit too for anyone with the eyes to see and the ears to hear, and that wasn’t lost on them. His wife Marrie told me she feels my soul and I know she does. Absolute beautiful people. 💝

All those drugs were dumped into the black and Hispanic community and the government knew about it. Today we are still fighting against the stigma and economic crisis those drugs did to our neighborhoods.
