This song is one of those very specific songs that takes me back to when I was in college in 99'. Just hearing it is like getting on a time machine to those simpler days. 20 fucking years have gone by in the blink of an eye.
I know man, it’s heartbreaking getting older. I used to always be the young person in everything I did, that was my identity. Now suddenly I’m the older person. The worst part is going from being reasonably attractive to young girls, to now just being way too old for them. Women my own age are all married, or single with children. Plus, when I look at chicks my own age, they look too old for me! What a nightmare! This sucks!

Lots of simpler times indeed,When you could listen to music and like an artist and nobody would bother you how much they make or the nonsense politics of the artist or band. 1999 such a great time in life, Liking No Doubt back in 1996 with "Tragic Kingdom" and still like them today. I miss those days so much.

Much of 90s music was way before its time...its almost like we've gone BACKWARDS with music since the early to mid 2000s(with a few exceptions)--really sad and strange. I sure pray for musoc cause it ain't gettin NO BETTER. :-( ♡☆♡

First time I heard about this song was from that movie "Go" back in 1999 way before their Return of Saturn album in 2000. And I saw this music video for the first time somewhere in the early 2000's. Good times - way before all that social media crap!

Considering that Gwen wrote this song about the early stages of her relationship with Gavin Rossdale, it is now heartbreaking to listen to. "I'll probably end up back at start, I'll be back in line with my broken heart." Almost like she knew it wasn't going to end well...
This song isn't about Gavin in anyway ND wrote it in like 92 and rewrote it in 98 for the "GO" movie soundtrack then rerecorded it again for Return Of Saturn this is the original recording that they put out for "GO" the ROS version isn't as good IMO...
D TW I was reading an article about No Doubt's early music the other day and it specifically stated that Gwen wrote this soon after she had started her romance with Gavin. Maybe they got it wrong. Who knows? Everyone seems to have their own interpretation of what this song means anyway.
+strellasmith777 Your right but it's not about Gavin at all it may seem that way but "NEW" is an old song that they specifically reworked for "GO" now sense it was on ROS it might have some meaning meant for or about Gavin but my interpretation of the song is about getting high and or love some sort of feeling and or experience not wanting to fade away
i think gwen, for a really really long time, knew none of it was going to work, but she stuck with it as long as she could. i mean, even the lyrics to rock steady (the song) talk about how it's never gonna last, but she'll work with it as long as she can.
this song is definitely about her and Tony finally getting to that point where they're just friends and bandmates, not lovers anymore. it's a new feeling for them.

I own every No Doubt recording, and this is my favorite of all their songs.
My favourite Christmas Movie "Go" brought me here
I graduated in 98...and the next year this came out...was like a refreshing wave of new music and killer light effects for videos.
We are 20 days from 2024 ...and this still hits hard as one of my top 10 jams to blast while driving.
My friend and I were in this video. We were at a rave at the Fox Theatre in Pamona when a couple of people from the production company came up to our group as we were waiting in line. They took polaroid's off all of us and told us they were casting a No Doubt video. It was filmed in a warehouse in Canoga Park. This was such a fun day/ night. I wish I would have brought a camera in and taken pictures....I did get Adrian's autograph and Gwen pushed me out of her way a couple of times as she was walking through the crowd. I miss the 90's.

I remember watching the making of this video on MTV2. She said her makeup was Kubuki inspired, it's what she wanted. The Ravers dancing are all CGI. Her costume was made by her, including her armwear.

To those who wonder why New is not on their VEVO channel, the single was released through Work and Sony Music Soundtrax. Go was released with Columbia Pictures. Technically since it’s a Sony release, it should be eligible directly through Vevo but for some reason, it’s harder than it looks.
