As a teenager I owned a 1982 GSL with perennially bald tyres....it was HEAVEN to drive, SO much crazy fun, sliding around- I'm still trying to get something to rival it!
Dude, ur closing remarks damn near made me tear up. Lucky for me, a neighbor down the street acquired his late father's 1 owner 84k mile 83' rx-7, and is finally looking to sell it. It's finally time for me to acquire this beauty. Red exterior and black leather interior. I'm thinkin she needs to go green, possibly a dark metallic. This video got me so excited for my next project.
Thanks for bringing back good memories the motor and drivetrain out lasted the body when I parked mine for good it had around 260000 miles no major problems the 10 years I had it only replaced 4th & 5th synchronizers ✌️
I can not wait to get one of these in my life. Decision made. Over. Done with. I will get one this year. I'm working on selling my wrx race car and my daily pathfinder. When both are gone I will start shopping. I'm considering the fc as well but an rx7 it is. For friggin sure. I like the convertible fc alot alot. My wife and I both like stick shift Jdm vehicles. She prefers low riders but she's not getting one 😂. We're getting an rx7. 17 years ago we drove around in my mk3 supra and fell in love with each other and that car. Mk3 supras are harder to find than rx7 which seems backwards as f but its true right now. Way more rx7 s of all years than supras right now.
Bad news young generation although an awesome example the numbers not lining up on the odo indicates the millage has been turned back, never seen those boxes at the back but the seats shown were awesome for young kids in the back, rode in one to school, once or twice
My dad had an 83 GSL with the 12a with 43k miles with a 3 speed automatic, he eventually converted it to a 5speed in around 2013 and sold it about 5 years later with 45k miles around there, I have a video of it on one of my channels (rx7vids if you guys wanted to go check it out)
I have a question I am a 16 year old car guy who is planning to get a driver's license next year. As a mazda guy, do you think an FB is manageable as a first car? I understand it is definitely not an ideal first car. It's old, rwd, carbureted, probably gonna be rusty, and of course it has a wankel. Thing is that I live in a city. I don't need a reliable source of transport. Any place I may need to get to is within walking distance. Basically I don't need a car. I just want one to finally experience the car world. I want to enjoy the car, so I would be willing to learn about the rotary, spend a little more and only drive it on a sunny saturday. Even so, would you still say that it would be too expensive and I should just buy a civic instead?
@@thepurdychannel8866 putting two stroke oil into the gas tank as you fill up. And honestly blowing apex seals are kind of a stereotype, if you ever owned a rotary, you'll find people flooding their engines are more common, but premix and keep eyes on temp and you're fine, and red line it to avoid carbon build up.
I have one with just about 190,000 miles with the original apex seals (well really everything is original). Since the 12a is N/A, the engines in these old RX-7s last a LONG time if treated right. I do need to rebuild my engine though, as it's leaking oil out of the side seals, haha. But it still runs like a dream.

FB is definitely a bucket list car, the 12A is such a charming engine.

12A = less overheating. Miss my 81 so much. Such a pleasure to drive thru canyon runs, up and downhill. Perfect 80s sports car thru and thru.
i bought one recently thing was so fun to drive. yesterday a guy backed into the rx 7 and totaled it im extremely sad now

Well done reliving your nostalgia!
My God, it's beautiful.
I really loved watching your video. Very well done. I owned a 1979 and then 1982 RX-7. The 82 GS was my favorite all time fun vehicle
Nice review Zach.. This is definitely a find of a lifetime for the mazda's..
I learned how to drive a manual in a series 2 rx 7
Oh, YES!! I think I'm in love with that car!
Sold my 82 GSL a couple weeks ago, really sad to see it go. Great video, amazing car. Headers really wake that little 12a up
Good and honest review. These were cheap to buy but are getting more expensive.
I love this video and I love to see first gens hope you can keep it up building the blue first gen
Beautiful review and a more beautiful car
Tired with 5 hours of sleep. So am doing a Shooting cars Mazda watch binge. while my 2024 mazda 3 ( sedan ) is in my drive way
I made sure my FB was a GSL for the limited slip diff... Turned out the diff clutches were shot and it was functionally an open diff :(
I've seen a strange toggle switch front back left and right below the ashtray. What is that control for on the gsl?
I've got my eye on one!
I live in a right hand drive country (trinidad) so we have rx7's from Japan

Get both, and a trackhawk for the kids

See your an Illinois boy, what up from IL 😂... I've got an 80 savannah with a wide body... project.....
I see one every week abandoned in a small stand owner refuses to sell it makes me sad everytime
Damn I love u man
too cool for school
What are lifetime of apex seals
Honestly depends on how someone maintainces their engine. If they premix or not, and if they let the car warm up or not, etc
@@Jeikune what do you mean premix do they need 2 stroke oil

Do more rx7 videos pls.
why are old tachometers often in yellow numbers, all the switsches aswell. And suddenly they went white
ANOTHER DOSE OF QUALITY CONTENT
It's still a great looking car!
I have a 626. 1982 if any one looking to buy it’s had a rotary swap done with 12a
It's not 1.1 it's 12A 1.2 liter. 1.1 was the 10A.
