Clarification: the primary shoe is in the front or back.? I have always understood that the primary shoe, the shoe with most contact area, is positioned in the back. This is the same shoe what mates with the emergency brake lever. Did I hear you correctly in saying the primary shoe should be the front shoe? Hmmmm?
According to a Chevrolet training video the front shoe is referred to as the primary shoe BUT the shoe with the most contact surface area the shoe on the rear. Some people call the shoe with the greatest amount of contact area the primary shoe as it does do the majority of the braking. But, never-the-less, Chevrolet refers to the front shoe (smallest contact area) as the primary shoe. I believe it is called the primary shoe because of the braking action and the fact the front shoe is the shoe that is initially involved in the braking process followed by the rear shoe which then takes on the majority of the action. Semantics aside, the shoe with the largest contact area is the rear shoe not the front shoe.
Thank you very much for making this video
According to shop manual for my 1966 impala the primary shoe [short lining] faces forward .
Fast forward and blocking big guy….. you killing me.
You should’ve went more in depth on the springs. Removal and reinstalling. Great video keep em coming.

You just showed everyone how to put the brakes together wrong the primary shoe always faces forward on a duo servo type brake
You didn’t explain what you were doing when you took it apart or putting it back together
good
