Wow, the joy of this music is palpable because these musicians not only conquer the technical aspects but add in their heart with a smile. Very moving.
We have often heard that it takes a lifetime to be able to play with the right insight, maturity, or whatever you call it. How about this? A group of young people play as they had lived a long life? No, we have to change our thinking about this. And accept that young people have the same insight in what it is to be a human beeing, the same deep feeling for life. And sometimes they play better than the older. Thank you, Janine, you have done a great job!
These folks are incredibly talented, skilled, well-educated and experienced. This gives them the tools to be expressive where some others might be inhibited by lack of talent, education, technical skill and experience. In past years, excellent teaching and opportunities were more limited, reached fewer people, hence fewer musicians could reach this level. So what might have been true in the past is not true now.

When watching Janine play with major orchestras you get the sense she is really particularly suited for this kind of music, which is so collaborative. She is eternally connecting with members of the orchestra as she tackles a major concerto. Here she is doing it with this group of fine young musicians. She is not only an outstanding violinist but also an inspiration to younger performers. This is gorgeous music and a wonderful performance.
Felix is at it again! I really began to admire him at age nine to 10 in Spain where we were stationed at a SAC base. My father was a colonel in the US Air Force. I began piano lessons there at age eight with Vladimir Vuletin-a semi-retired concert pianist. I remember the maid we had there was extremely put-out with me because she complained that I had been listening to the same record all day long. OVER and OVER!! - she almost screamed in Spanish to my mother innocently returning home from shopping in Madrid. It was the Octet in E-flat Op. 20. I still can listen to it over and over...yes ! It's delicious. I especially love the scherzo!
The opening theme is unforgettable once heard. I don't care how long it's been since I last heard it performed, the minute the octet is mentioned, I immediately hear the opening theme in my head.
Written when he was only 16!!! This has to be one of the most amazing and challenging octets ever written. Was this the writing of a genius? Matter of opinion. But played with gusto here. Fabulous way of spending 33 minutes of your life.
This work is more mature and personal than most ot the works Mozart wrote at the same age. Indeed the fugatos from the Finale are truly masterly. If Mozart is a genius (and he is!) Mndelssohn is not less!

Curtisgrindahl's comment nails an aspect of Janine Jansen's playing I've long loved, myself, and have commented on several times: her love of collaboration, including with orchestra members when she's playing a concerto. It's almost as if communication is in her DNA. She grew up playing chamber music with her family, and that spirit of intimate cooperation has informed everything she does. What a privilege and learning experience it must have been for the people who joined her in this performance! How can a sentient being not be moved by such greatness, from the teenaged Mendelssohn, the mature Jansen, and her colleagues, here?

Janice I love you. Thankyou for everything!
Yeah is indeed to say thank you,I love the song a lot and it makes me calm my nerves 😍👍😁
After a lot of listening to this it seems I have heard it before. And yes, among my CD:s I find it, never played in 20 years, Octet E-flat. This is what I like about RUclips. It brings music to life. And also Janine Jensen brings music to life. With her young ensemble in this Mendelsson she proves that one has not to be old to play great music.
Is a real pleasure to listen to you !
Une telle œuvre à 16 ans, on comprend mieux la suite...!!!
Wow, such a musician as Jenine Jansen as a participant and leader. Pardon if I mispelled her name. To me, this is one of the best Classical music pieces, ever.
What a performance!
So happy to hear this. I've heard the young players at Greenwood Chamber Music Camp play this in several summers; I also heard the Mendelsohn Quartet play it with the Brentano. What a joy it is to be a musician on such occasions, and a listener.
Вызывает удивление, что в этом, расчетливом и обусловленном мире существует горение. являющееся источником тепла и радости для всех, кому не безразлична тайна, которую открывает МУЗЫКА! Браво Янсен- Вы бесподобны!!!
Kudos! Such a beautiful piece.
This will remain legacy
This is really fantastic. The work and the musicians.
I Simply Love Her expressive way of performing her interpretation and Great Talented Musician. Very Rare! ❤️🎵🎶 And this is from a fellow Musician as Well. All Brass instruments.
