Wow...This sounds so good live, don't care what anyone says.... surprisingly modern after almost 30 years. Diana was actually ahead of her time back then with doing hip hop/swing. Her audience just wasn't ready for Diana to adjust to what she knew was coming...but she sounded good.
Jesus Christ! I'm old. I had a friend to record this for me on VHS!!!! Way back in the day and many years later. I had a VHS transfer to DVD. This is one of her best concerts. I actually think it's better than Central Park. Thanks for posting, great memories.
The working overtime album was a commercial disappointment n only sold 150k within the US....However, Ross's free concert in CP was her pinnacle....Right after, she turned her attention to the personal, she wanted to marry again and have more children, which is exactly what she did...Once married, she dropped 2 sons back2back....but if she had to do it over again, i don't think she wld change a thing....
This is 'Nile Rodger's version' of hip hop swing. Diana rightfully saw hip hop coming and wanted that sound, she trusted Nile to produce it. For me, Nile wasn't the correct choice for swing, especially since he didn't have Bernard Edwards any longer, who I believe was the musical glue to Chic. But Diana did her part, she sounded good... I believe it was the production that inhibited the project not her.
@@dddddadadad1796 Yeah, I agree with your over all point, this WAS the early sound of new jack swing... It wasn't supposed to be house (which was still deep underground) or hip hop (which didn't exist then as we know it now). I I always thought Nile was the wrong man for this project. Diana brought her vocal game but Nile was not confident in this genre as producer... especially since Bernard wasn't on it with him. But Diana was ABSOLUTELY correct to see hip hop coming though back in 89....she was spot on.
I didn’t know she did this live! It is one of my favorites from the Workin Overtime album!!!!!! This performance was amazing . She was on fire
I love this song! :)
Great performer!!!
This song is better live !!!

This was filmed in Europe. The whole concert (On tape) is good.

That's not hip hop nor house music. Lol
I came to write the same thing but you beat me by a couple hours. IMO it is more of a late 80's R&B groove

Both of y’all are wrong. This is what both hip hop, and house were in 1989. Let’s be clear
I wld agree she had a song called "Paradise" that came closer to house music than this tune
