Hey everyone!
The 2022 White Sox entered the season as contenders. However, they ended up being arguably the most disappointing team of the 2022 season. What happened? What needs to change before next season?

Tony La Russa is the biggest "addition by subtraction" move of this offseason. They'll be okay as long as they get a manager that isn't trapped in 2007
Tony was miserably bad, the sign of an unserious team, and on top of it they let Rodon walk in their 'window.' That made no sense. To hell with Reinsdorf, this team isn't winning anything with this group.
2007? Try 1977
He won 2011 though.
@@sneersh9107 No, 2007 is roughly accurate. He won three NL titles and two World Series with the Cardinals in his last eight years of managing them (2004-2011), and then he spent the next nine years in off-the-field roles, mostly in baseball ops departments. We Cardinals fans have very fond memories of his time managing in St. Louis, but his years outside the dugout didn't set him up well for a return to management.
Tony La Russa didn’t manage the last month of the season and the Sox were still mediocre. They had much bigger problems than La Russa and if those don’t get addressed next season, it won’t matter who the manager is.
A lot of people were expecting an MVP-type leap from Robert last season and it didn't come. Maybe this year can be his true breakout
I think he can, he just needs to stay healthy, which is easier said than done
He was hurt bro we have the worst training staff of all fucking time eloy Robert always hurt moncada too man it’s horrible
Cuz he ripped his arm out of his socket
He was injured again. His 182 sample mid way into last year his numbers were 30HR and like a 290 BA.
@@BattlefrontNow THANK YOU
it really is funny to see how the numbers really do back up what I was seeing, at multiple points in the season it felt like we had half the team playing against us
As a Sox fan I am so happy you made this video it’s so good and i appreciate it so much. Do you think that at the start of the season in 2023 you can make another video expressing thoughts if they will be good after the off-season. Thanks
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m definitely open to making another vid after the off-season
@@SportStorm23 Alr thanks
if you name is whitesoxboi5206 you really dont have to add the "as a Sox fan" qualifier... lmao
Boo Chicago white socks go Cleveland guardians
Immediately thought of Berto’s rant 😂
Getting rid of LaRussa improves them 10 games, but the offense has got to step up
Selling the team will give the Sox a chance to make the playoffs
@@MrZinjanthropus they made the playoffs twice so no selling the team won't work. What makes you think the new owner won't just be like Loria was with the Marlins?
@@fallen4life080 Making the playoffs doesn't mean anything. Reinsdorf won 1 WS championship in 42 years of ownership. 1/42 = pathetic. Any other owner can do better than this ratio!
@@MrZinjanthropus Yankees have 1 championship in 20 years, Dodgers have 1 championship in 30+ years and they've had the best team in MLB since 2010. Ownership isn't the problem, it's complicated.
@@fallen4life080 No, it's not complicated. Reinsdorf doesn't want to win championships. Plain and simple. Putting the Sox in the same sentence with the Dodgers and Yankees is an insult to these organizations.
2022: What a horrible year. Glad that's over.
2023: Hold my beer.
2024: Hold my keg.
As a Sox fan, this hurt. But honestly the video was one of the best consolidated analyses of last year that I’ve seen so far. I just hope we have an effective offseason. Last year was really tough for fan morale-and the rhetoric surrounding payroll expectations has been frustrating.
I still can't wrap my head around Andrew Benennti being your guys' biggest free agent signing in franchise history. God, ol' Jerry is cheap mofo ain't he?
As a White Sox fan, this is going to hurt, but if you can make a whole video about your favorite team's tumultuous 2021 season, I can watch a less than flattering one of mine. I haven't yet viewed it, but nevertheless, thanks in advance for putting this together. I know it will be of quality like the rest of your channel's sterling offerings. Here we go.
Jose Abreu walking away just twists the knife
It fixes some roster construction issues, but yeah a fan favorite leaving is certainly a negative
@@SportStorm23 Abreu was a captain without a C
he was the only man in the clubhouse willing to give them anything moral wise
he's carved out a reputation that only two other first-baseman have matched or surpassed on the Southside
on the other hand, I'm not sure Houston's wise letting an aging roster get older still
@@thedude3065 What? Alvarez, Tucker, Mccormick, Pena, Javier, Garcia, Brown, all those guys are 25 and under.
@@thedude3065 Houston has plenty of young talent. They just gave themselves an even better chance to win it all again next year bringing in Abreu. He's a perfect fit for them, I don't see anyone in the AL stopping them and as of now they're clear favorites to win the WS next year.
This team broke my heart.
I was at the May 9th game although the Sox lost, it was a fun game to watch as it was my senior ditch day for school and we sat three to five rows behind the Guardians bullpen
I imagine their bullpen was hyped after those Naylor HRs
I couldn’t sleep that night

If it weren't for the Tim Anderson drama with Josh Donaldson I'd totally forget the White Sox ever existed.
Them and the Reds are the most forgettable orgs in the MLB imo
I called it the Battle of Dueling Assholes.
@@his_purpose3 right now, you might be right. Reds havent been relevant for a string of consecutive seasons since the 70s, the White Sox since the 1910s (ok the Fox-Aparicio teams in the 50s were competitive even if they only made 1 WS)
Both teams have famous banned gamblers.😁
@@demonkingbadger6689 Donaldson has a bad temper, but even if his comment was mildly racist, he’s not an asshole. Tim Anderson was being an asshole by claiming that him being the 117th exuberant baseball player in the past ten years is in any comparable to being the only colored man in the entire league and everyone in said league actively trying to hurt or even kill you. Donaldson was clearly trying to bring Anderson back to reality, even if he could have done so better.
@@demonkingbadger6689 The fact that you didn’t even mention 2005 lmao No one remembers they won for some reason
You should do a video like this for every team. Great analysis

White sox fans before the 2021 season started and Eloy Jimenez got hurt: “guys we’re the 2016 Cubs! We’re gonna make the World Series and he’s gonna come back just like Schwarber and we’re gonna win it all”
White Sox after a disappointing end to 2021: “we’re the 2015 Cubs, we were better a year earlier than expected and next year is our year”
White sox fans after 2022: “yea we fucking suck”
Funny but true
We never compared ourselves to the scrubs stop the cap
Aaaaand here we are again in 2023. "Celebrating" our biggest win of they year. Number 8 in MAY
Great video and recap!
Menechino would praise singles as opposed to us hitting anything else which was a huge red flag. La Russa being gone should very beneficial to these guys.
not many singles from Grandal, Garcia, Moncada, Pollock, etc... Have their line up didn't hit their weight.
@@MrZinjanthropus yup, while one half of the line up was getting on base with singles, the other half couldn't hit anything to bring them home. All season long.
Their hitting and base running was so atrocious in ‘22 anyone could argue they were throwing the season. And no matter who is managing there’s no way a bunch of players who spend their off-season in the Caribbean are not going to sustain injuries playing April baseball in Chicago, Cleveland or Detroit.
Between Grandal, Jimenez, Moncada and Anderson these guys averaged 85 missed games due to injury. The only big gun who didn’t was Abreau and He Gone.
Winners win, losers lose. But when winners lose there’s a much bigger problem. My loyalty to this organization has been completely rocked. I went to one game last year and I couldn’t find parking. When I finally did I got a ticket afterwards by the city. These ass clowns can’t get anything right.
We need a Marlins video similar to this because they are fixable too
tigers i feel are fixable as well
The 2022 White Sox were disappointing, the 2023 White Sox are horrifying.
I'm so happy this video exists
Thanks SportStorm! Can you do one on my Orioles? Their future is so bright!
Thanks for watching! If the Orioles make any big off-season moves then I’ll probably make a vid sometime down the road
@@SportStorm23 No problem buddy, have a lovely evening! As a future video, maybe talk about that crazy Tigers-Twins game from last July 28th? 17-14?! Who ordered a Lions-Vikings game? 😂😂😂
You should watch his Adley Rutschman video; it’s pretty extensive on the Orioles right now!
@@SportStorm23 Hey, while you’re here - could you do one on the Astros? I’m genuinely curious to hear your thoughts on the past decade or so, good or bad.
@@Gemnist98 Noted!
Great video ☺️
Any Bauer updates?
2022 was an awful year for the CSox, although it wasn't supposed to turn that way. It came to no surprise that the team had such a mediocre year and it will not surprise me if they trip again in 2023 (I have been their fan for over 50 years.) Plus, I always wonder why the Sox carry so many low- producing and injured players who are filling a spot on the roster and will not be able to help them win their division.
Moncada's walk rate dropped a ton this year, that has to be pretty concerning to Sox fans.
Great video as always, the use of pop culture references and even memes sometimes is A-level.
Thank you!
Moncada has no heart. He's a loser who can't his body weight. Dump him as soon as possible.
These last two seasons for the White Sox shows just how important a manager is to a team's success. It's weird to say but they were better off keeping Rick Renteria rather than drag the corpse of TLR out of retirement.
I get that it isn't solely on Tony as to why they underachieved, but you cant deny he was a net negative for the team. From the Yermin Mercedes drama, to his refusal to shift and baffling lineup decisions and intentional walk decisions.
Us sox fans need to stop settling for less and should want what we deserve. An actual good manager… I don’t like the Pedro Grifo signing but what I heard from inside sources is that this one wasn’t a Jerry Reinsdorf signing. (Tony laRussa) I still have doubts about Pedro but only time will tell who he really is.
White Sox fans gotta be the only fanbase in sports who blames their teams failures on a hall of fame manager/coach lmao
Mercedes hit 50 points higher than Grandal.
@@jasonmilly3320 lmfao the game is different now Larussa was another problem for the Sox. Literally a fan in the stands told TLR what to do and TLR did it and thanks to that sox fan the Sox won that night 😂😂😂 TLR couldn’t even stay awake a whole game
@@MrZinjanthropus Mercedes is a DH-only player. He can't catch at all.
White sox players have bones made of glass and paper skin, they get injured so easily and so often. It hurts so much because we’re always talking about how big baby is gonna have his breakthrough season after he recovers from his injury and then he gets injured again right after
Abreu played almost every game for the last 9 years.
Can’t wait for part two of this after this year smh
Gonna be an interesting year in the central, and the results of this year will likely dictate future seasons. Guardians were on top but likely won’t do too many big things this off-season, White Sox have a lot of good players who had bad years and could piece something together, and the Twins looked solid outside of the final month of the year, and while they have the most roster construction to handle they do have around $60 million left to spend this off-season. Who will come out on top in 2023?
Sox will come in either in 2nd or 3rd place.
@@MrZinjanthropusUmmmm…….
Yeah we are completely stuck bargain bin shopping, the Bulls were fixable too but nothing has changed since their first round exit either. It’s almost completely on the owner…
I agree, Reinsdorf has won 1 WS with the Sox. He wouldn't have won anything with the Bulls if he didn't have Jordan. Plus, what owner lets the greatest athlete of any sport leave his organization??
KC: We're easily one of the worst franchises in the sport over the past 5 years with absolutely nothing to indicate we are well coached or talented.
White Sox: This Grifol guy is PERFECT for the manager vacancy!
The White Sox are a good team with an out of date manager. LaRussa may be one of the all time great managers, but the game has passed him by. Hence why the White Sox struggled. He wasn't willing to adapt to today's game and his team suffered for it. Now that LaRussa is gone, the Sox need a manager that knows how to get the best out of this team.
Yall should do a redux of the 2023 White Sox
This is by far my favorite Baseball RUclips channel. Better than Jolly Olive, Foolish Bailey, Baseball Historian and others. Keep up the good work SportStorm.
*DONT FORGET DALLAS K-Whatever his name is* _eff’d up too_
Letting Abreu walk was epically dumb. He didn't have the power this year, but hit .300+
May 20 2023
The White Sox are in 4th win the AL Central , 11 games under .500.
They would be dead last but KC has that nailed down cold
This aged beautifully
The White Sox haven’t won the World Series since I was 2. It would’ve been nice to see them contend for the World Series
Can you do the braves next?
It’s not a full recap of their 2022 season, but I made a video on them a couple months ago
SportStorm! Can you do the Astros!, They are really turning into a dynasty!
Glad you said "turning into" meaning they're not one yet. Lot of people seem to already think they are one lmao. They're still one title away, two if you don't wanna count 2017 but I do, and don't wanna get into that. Has always taken 3 titles. All their other participation awards are nice and all but championships make dynasties and nothing less.
Please do a video on the 2022 SF Giants
Can you please make a awesome video like this about the blue jays?
We did suck this year but we didn’t have the right manager and luckily we got a new hitting coach that seems to be really good so hopefully he can fix the disappointments from last year
The sox hitters are dumb, they don't have quality ABs.
@@MrZinjanthropus what lol
maybe the umpires were against the Sox as well. The players are over rated. not a good team.
@@MrZinjanthropus we’re. Not overrated bad seasons happen to good teams sometimes we didn’t have the right manager you can’t have a good season if you don’t have the right manager
@@Redfirewolf23 Overrated players. Players have a personal responsibility. None taken by players.
I just hope the Sox are never relocated.... Always at the back of my mind...
The Sox just aren't geared up for success. The roster is terribly lopsided: If any player is good offensively (Eloy, Anderson..etc) They are a liability on defense. If they are great defensively (Moncada, Engel), they can't hit worth a damn. The rotation is good but the Bullpen is all over the place. They gave a record contract to Liam Hendricks, who isn't even the best closer in the AL Central let alone the league. Both he and Aaron Bummer messed up. Reynaldo Lopez probably gonna take over the Closer role this season.
Thoughts on signing Gallo with the shift banned
Banning the shift is a terrible rule.
This is gonna be a tough watch, I just want to forget
Whoever said that the sox where geared up to run the AL is just a sox fan clear as day, I have always been a big critic of the sox since iam a cubs fan but the fact a team like the white sox with the kind of talent they have on that roster and finishing the way they did is mind blowing espcially since they are in the easiest division in baseball and had weak teams to prey on and now finally when the other teams become solid they start losing ground and their real flaws start to show like when they got destroyed by houston the last time they where in the playoffs and tbh it could be rebuild time soon if Tim Anderson leaves in next FA
The problem with batters today is that everyone wants to be the home run hitting superstar, no one is willing to be patient, and swing at what they can hit. I'd take who only hits 15 homers a year, but bats .300 over a guy who hits 35 dingers but rarely gets above .230 any day of the week
A new manager and coaching staff might be a step up in 2023
This whole season never in a million years I thought the Sox will be this disappointing
I just LOVE how this video completely ignores the 21-3 Astros Shellacking that occurred August 21st.
LMAO i was waiting for it after he mentioned the win against the astros, glad i slept through that game
4-0 / 11-1 / 2005.
A pair of fresh eyes… lol this is going to be a meme
Now for the expected failure of the 2023 White Sox
all that took for me to prove the white sox werent what they were hyped to be was the tony la russa two strike walk on trea turner....
How many shoes you sold Brodie I’m curious 🧐
2021 was a great season making it to the ALCS even though we lost to the Astros
I don’t think that Yoan Moncada is the great baseball player that many think he is. The two full seasons that he’s had an ops+ above 100 he’s also had an insanely high BABIP
Exactly why as a Sox fan I’m already thinking about tearing it all down considering two “core” players in him and Anderson are exactly that and are due or have hit their regression.
Such an insanely hyped prospect who’s been very streaky in the majors
@@Belligerentpotatoes the TA hate I see from Sox fans is baffling
He sucks. Perfect example of an overrated guy in this era. Baseball wizards have convinced gullible people that WAR means something. But when you watch him play baseball, he's not much of a presence and isn't elite even when he's been at his best.
@@MajorPayton35 it’s because he’s full of drama! He needs to just be a team player and let his game do the talking!
Pretty spot on given they just signed Benintendi
Season went downhill soon as they lost the opening game to us (Detroit Tigers) that Javy Baez walkoff was what ended their season before it started
Yeah your season was over before it started too... terrible
I always that it was that Cleveland game where sox were up 5 or so in 9th and just completely collapsed. That was my indicator
it was literally injuries and horrible coaching as the keys. Defense was bad and lost some games, but clearly it’s not what made this team under play by like 15 wins. Lynn had no spring training and started terrible but he’s still Lynn he’s really good and Kopech was good, 3.54 in your first year as a starter isn’t “struggling” in my opinion. He just walks too many. Pitching is not too scary honestly, we have a great pitching coach and 3 certified starters and now Clev too. We need a 2B until Sosa comes up, a RF until Colas comes up, and maybe another lefty reliever and ANDRUS NEEDS TO COME BACK FOR DEPTH FOR CERTAIN WE BETTER HAVE LEARNED OUR LESSON WITH THE INJURIES
Elvis Andrus wouldn't be the worst resigning.
Don't forget dumb base running and stupid players. Maybe Lance Lynn should lose 50 pounds.
First! By the way, love you, and your vids SportsStorm you helped inspire me to go to school for sports analytics, and broadcasting!
Wow that’s amazing! I’m honored that my videos helped inspire you. Good luck with your studies!
Unexpected?💀🤣🤣 if you’re a Sox fan you know this isn’t unexpected considering the ownership and upper management we have.
I think this was a really good analysis. They have talent, but were too overconfident with their ability
Sox should’ve kept Rodon. Probably could’ve gotten him for 20-25m last season on a longer term deal (maybe even less) and now he’s probably looking for 30m per season. They have nobody to trade for an exceptional offensive piece because they will keep their core and their farm system is shot. They need to spend this year or next in order to win
Thats too much money for an 86 year old billionaire to spend on a player.
2022 Giants were a mess next video please !!!!
Most disappointing season ever as a White Sox fan, legit worse than choking in 2006 and 2012.
Winning 90 games generally gets you in the playoffs.
Everything about this team frustrates the shit out of me. The one thing that was not mentioned in this video was the attitude of the players on this team and was recently talked about in the last few weeks and that was the toxic environment within the clubhouse. It says ALOT when your star player turns down a contract offer and goes to a team that in his words is a family and knows how to win which is what he was promised here in Chicago for years. AJ turning down $14mil was another clue that there is an internal problem and although the team said they wont trade him, TA came out and said he knows his days are numbered because this team refuses to pay and he wants out as well. This will be the first failed rebuild and the entire front office needs to go as well as everyone in the minor league system that are supposed to be developing players. I've been a fan of this team for over 30 years and have stuck with this team through many ups and downs but this one is embarrassing and don't know how much faith I have left with this current front office/ owner they have. They have used the same excuses for years now on why they wont spend money but they don't put the correct people in charge to help them win if they are financially strapped. They need to learn how to develop and control like Tampa Bay and the A's as the best example but Jerry won't do that because he is sadly to loyal to the wrong people and this will be the downfall of this organization if things don't change VERY soon.
As An INDIANS fan I loved every min of it .
a what?
It’s a shame to see Liam not make the playoffs
I’d say the white Sox were fixable if it weren’t for them losing their best player this off-season and having so many holes in the rotation and lineup
Losing Abreu definitely doesn’t help, I just wonder what a healthy version of this yeah looks like. Maybe Hahn makes some trades no one expects
Worst Sox season I've ever watched. Every game was depressing, I didn't even feel good after most wins. Ugly baseball.
It sure was entertaining watching the Chi Sox implode during the season. I look forward to another season of disappointment on the South side. :)
The 1-2 intentional walk was when I knew the season was doomed. TLR will forever be a cursed name on the Southside
As a white Sox fan, watching this team day in day out showed me that the effort was not there. There was just not enough effort being put out on the field to have a chance at the playoffs.
They won in 2005 using small ball in the beginning of the order and power hitters in the middle
Right. They played baseball.
It was expected by Jerry Reinsdorf. His goal to have a team every year good enough to make the playoffs but not win any playoff games. Along with putting his check book before winning at all times.
You are spot on. 1/42 = pathetic. He never would've won championships with the Bulls without Jordan. Since Jordan left the team, 0/25.
Bingo sell some playoff tickets but never spend the money to win it unless it a fluke year like 05
Fans need to boycott until they spend for top tier free agents.

Just realized unless I download videos all the time, RUclips premium is 100% pointless if every creator is gonna include a 1 minute sponsor in their videos.
3:56: First bad sign. For a so-called "contender", it is pretty weak when you have Vince Velasquez( 5.95 ERA in 2021 while being booted out of the rotation by a pitching poor Phillies team ) and Dallas Keuchel ( 5.28 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP in 2021 and they couldn't find anyone better to put in the rotation?) in your starting rotation.
