Seeing hagley hall potentially running by the autumn and the stanier mogul potentially returning within the next few years the volunteers at the Severn valley railway do deserve a massive round of applause for there work at keeping these locos in action and spending years in overhauling them

@@sam_edwards_7233 the post to which I replied was talking about ‘the next few years’ and should therefore be read in that context

That’ll be great to see the LMS mogul back into service for the first time since the last time it was in steam back in 2013

Fortunately, good old Dai was a businessman with a big heart. Because his yard was beside Barry docks it was a stroke of luck for the preservation movement. In the golden age of coal, Barry docks loaded ships with millions of tons of black gold. The dockside was lined with many rail sidings to accommodate the endless number of trains a day, the rakes of wagons were put in the sidings to wait their turn on the ship loaders.
When the coal trade died, many empty sidings could be used to store hundreds of wagons and locomotives. Many other scrap merchants, such as Cashmores in Newport docks, had very little room for storing locos, only a handful at most.
One thing that has always puzzled me is how did Dai convince his bank manager to allow all that financial outlay to sit for so long and not make a profit, and thus a return on the bank loans to buy the engines from BR?
I look forward to seeing her back on the job soon.

82045 still isn’t finished, why start another project before finishing another?

There is different groups working at the same time as there are private owners of different engines

82045 is a totally separate project both in funding and their owning groups.
