It definitely softens their appeal and makes them likeable to world audiences- as when, even after his loss, Novak's son smiling at him at 2023 Wimbledon caused him to tear up. That was a more powerful visual than even Alcaraz hoisting the trophy - and the players' publicity teams and the media know this!!

I think it's a little surprising at Nadal's recent forms considering he's become a dad in relation to other top players' results when they became a father. When federer became a dad in 2009 ,he won two master 1000s and made us open final and ended the year no.1. when Novak became a dad he won paris masters and atp finals in 2014 and had the best 18 months of his career, winning 5 slams and 9 masters along with two atp finals. When Murray became a dad he had his best year ending 2016 as no. 1, won wimbledon and 3 masters along with atp finals. Even though Medvedev had a relatively poor 2022, he immediately won vienna few months and played great atp finals, pushing every match to a 3rd set tiebreak despite not qualifying for the SF's. I am sure nadal will find his form and I wouldn't be surprised if he won 2 more slams.

Bear in mind that Federer and Murray were 28 and Djokovic 26 when they became fathers for the first time, Nadal is 36. If unable to return to his high standards, it will be more a result of his age than the impact of fatherhood.
