Why Ons Jabeur's Drop Shot can Net her a Slam
Why Ons Jabeur's drop shot can net her a Slam.
Tennis is constantly evolving. And while the drop shot has existed forever, it may be more relevant than ever.
If we're entering a drop shot boom, then Ons Jabeur is the trailblazer. For Ons Jabeur, the drop shot is not an auxiliary tool or a changeup surprise tactic; it is a core weapon. In the last year, Jabeur's drop shot rate has been about five times the tour average.
So why does Ons Jabeur hit so many drop shots, and how does she get away with it?

Why Tennis Should Adopt Golf's Tour Card System
Просмотров 7 тыс.Год назад
Why tennis should adopt golf's Tour Card system. For years, one tennis debate has raged on - one that feels nowhere close to a viable solution. The length of the tennis season. But is it too narrow to look at the calendar in isolation? Are there, instead, more significant issues with the very essence of the tennis ecosystem? What if tennis could take greater control of different tiers of events...
How Parenthood Impacts Tennis' Media Narratives

How Parenthood Impacts Tennis' Media Narratives For most, the decision to become a parent is life-altering, but how does this decision change the professional tennis player's identity and media narrative? What is its impact on player performance? Will the new familial responsibility distract tennis players from training and playing optimally, or will the new role give them a newfound confidence...
Why Taylor Fritz is a Talent Maximiser
Просмотров 9 тыс.Год назад
God did not gift Taylor Fritz with freak athleticism. 'Fluid' or 'explosive' are not words that come to mind when watching Fritz move around a tennis court - relative to his elite professional peers. The shortcomings in Fritz's movement would make it impossible for him to have a high success rate in points when he had to play defence. So he had to find a way to take his movement out of the equa...

Are NFTs the Future of Tennis Fandom? For a sport that is desperate to open itself up to compete with an ever-more saturated sports and entertainment market, creating a digital landscape for fans and building tennis-focused communities should be positive. But can it afford the risk of marginalising a less affluent marketplace? And given the risks attached to the NFT and crypto markets and the h...

Alcaraz v FAA: Are Tennis Prodigies Getting Older?
Просмотров 11 тыс.Год назад
Alcaraz v FAA: Are Tennis Prodigies Getting Older? Prodigies are a source of continuous debate among tennis fans. Who has lived up to their potential, and who has fallen short? The side of the argument you end up at usually depends on whether and when a player has reached a significant milestone. Felix Auger-Aliassime and Carlos Alcaraz exemplify the prodigy debate perfectly. The two young star...
How Uncle Toni Can Improve Felix Auger Aliassime's Game
Просмотров 23 тыс.2 года назад
The serve of Felix Auger-Aliassime is difficult to assess using a blanket statement. The first delivery might be his greatest weapon. It's a top-10 first serve in the world, producing aces at a clip that ranks 7th-best among Top-50 players in 2022. But while the first serve has propelled FAA to success, the reality is not as favourable when it misses. On the ATP's stats leaderboard, FAA's point...
What's Cramping Holger Rune's Game?
Просмотров 22 тыс.2 года назад
Holger Rune has built an impressively polished all-court game before his 20th birthday. He’s equally strong on his forehand and backhand, with no apparent shortcomings in power or speed, great touch and a highly competitive attitude. A quick look at his game and one might jump to the conclusion that the teenager from Denmark has no weakness. But those who have chronicled his young career know a...

Is Pickleball a Threat to Tennis?

Is Pickleball a Threat to Tennis? During a five-year span, from 2016 to 2021, Pickleball participation in the USA nearly doubled from 2.5million to 4.8million. The upshots of the sport are clear to see: it's a shorter game with a more straightforward scoring system than tennis; the courts take up less room - you can fit four pickleball courts in one tennis court; it can be played indoors or out...
Laver Cup: The True Cost of Tennis
Просмотров 12 тыс.2 года назад
Laver Cup: The True Cost of Tennis Tennis has long suffered from an image problem. Detractors claim it is a snooty, upper-class sport that is inaccessible to large parts of society. Some of the criticism has, however, been unfair, particularly when compared to other sports. However, short-term business decisions - with little care for long-term consequences - are in danger of damaging the sport...
Jimmy Connors: Tennis' Ultimate Maverick

Jimmy Connors: Tennis' Ultimate Maverick Commentator Bud Collins nicknamed him the ‘Brash Basher of Belleville’ - and through a mammoth 24-year career, Jimmy Connors certainly lived up to that moniker. Jimmy Connors’ approach to tennis was to take everything - his opponent, the umpire, the crowd, his shots - head on. His attitude at times split opinions, but he also wowed with his daring s...
Chris Evert: America's Sporting Princess

On September 2nd, 1971, 16-year-old Christine Marie Evert began what would become a personal love affair with the US Open. Taking time out from high school to compete, Evert swept aside 34-year-old Edda Buding in the first round but really caught the eye in her next match, surviving six match points before grinding out a three-set victory over US Fed Cup player Mary Ann Eisel. After that win, t...
Kyrgios: Good for the Game; Bad for the Sport?

'Sportsmanship' - noun. The fair and generous behaviour or treatment of others, especially in a sporting contest. 'Gamesmanship' - noun. The art of winning games by using various ploys and tactics to gain a psychological advantage. They're two words which, on the face of it, only seem to split the conceptual difference between sports and games. And yet, in their actual meaning, they are p...

I wonder who is the all-time men's leaderin that stat?
If you place the maximum effort, strength, physicality, movement, condition, talent and incredible skills you get DAVID FERRER, Dominic Thiem and others. What sets NADAL apart is his strategic mind and unwavering spirit. He doesn't only find solutions to problems during the match, but he never stops believing he can solve those problems. He is like waves at the beach, relentless.
WE WILL NOT FORGET ALEX DMINAUR'S MATCH AGAINST HUGO GASTON

Wow!!!
Echo Is awful and background music Is too loud bro
This is like Woodstock. Was I there or was I NOT there? I mean, I am pretty certain me and a friend, in separate places, watched this match on TV as it happened, however I am no longer 100% certain.
Formidable Monica Seles
Consider that he also played the heart of his career with a repurposed tree branch , sheep gut for strings and cowhide for a grip. Try that combo for five sets in 100 deg heat and high humidity . GOAT , Rodney George Laver is on the list for more 50 years....That's pretty great.
Two Grand Slams - The Rocket was #1
It takes a great player to win one of the big 4 tournaments. To win the Grand Slam, all 4 in 1 year is an amazing achievement. Laver did it twice. No other male player has achieved that.
Да, ТОВА Е ИСТОРИЧЕСКА ПОБЕДА ЗА СТРАХОТНИЯ ГОРАН ИВАНИШЕВИЧ!!!❤❤❤🎉
Wow!!! I remember this. I was 5 years old and at my Aunt's beach house, I remember seeing it being recapped on TV as an absolutely incredible match, but didn't know it had so much going on!

And now USO finalist
Man, the graphics are all over the place
Heart of a champion! (I don't even want to get out of bed every day)
I'm wearing Stan Smith shoes while watching this video😁
Yes world number 1 points ranking process is bullshit... WHO ELSE THINKS THAT? If you don't lemme explain.......... Even after winning indian wells, french open and Wimbledon.. Carlitos was only a few points away from zverev.. how's that? .. on the either hand ... the reason I think Rafael Nadal is only 209 weeks as number 1... cz he had to pull out of 19 grand slams in total in his career so far... as champion you have to defend your points ... but you lose 2500 points by default if you don't play.. and you don't get the chance to win them back post recovery... and that's why 4-5 yeats of points of Nadal gone without getting the chance to defend them... while even defending points has it's its inconsistencies.. SA seen by zverev and Carlos points this season... bcz a lot of top players don't even play 250 tournaments... plus points are only considered from your too 19 best results... the rest of the tournament does not count.. so what if a player plays 20 tournaments and a player plays 50.... in this case.. points can be monopolized in certain tournaments with which you can get ahead of the rankings.. something which Federer used to do winning Halle and queens after losing to Nadal on clay masters and Djokovic on had masters consistently ... so I just like prize money distribution... tennis has huugggeee inconsistency in how it counts ATp points . ATP points should be counted as fresh every year from zero.. depending of the amounts of title won and counting finals and semi finals only ...as ponts defeating top 10 players is a bullshit concept..bcz in many tournaments lower ranked players defeat top 10 players to advance forward m. Doe's mean the the tennis quality in the tournament has reduced in the finals ... it just means that specific top 10 players in that tournament wasn't good enough..and we should respect those victory of lower ranked players with true sporting spirit ..so points must be also be based on rounds and level of play...not not beating ranked players ....
Good video but the audio is terrible. Not watching this.
Thats all well and good but we dont have data on courts from decades ago to compare changes over time to address claims such as "surface homogenisation".
Best upset in history on the way to another upset in Championship game against all odds!!!!!!
I was a teen ager and watched this iconic moment live. Simply legendary
Got the nickname wrong.
❤ her legacy! Dr.tyrone of Chester pa
Unpredictable temperament. You mean, trauma.
chang acted like a clown, playing all hurt, but when the points were on he was running around at full speed, after the point was over he was all hurt again
Bad sportsmanship from Chang really. He treated this match like a joke.
I’d love to do a voice over for you guys
I thought inclusivity means including everyone, even the people you do not agree with.
Lendl merda
The underhand serve, is that even legal?
4:35 Alcaraz now
2:35
Her losing two consecutive Wimbledon finals was heartbreaking
lendl underachieved. he could have won a lot more
there is many advantages with a good sliced BH. it don't cost energy. it is difficult to attack back. opponant can't read it, it can goes everywhere it gives a vey high accuracy. and it is perfect to hide dropshots :)
I do not think the part that "heavy top spin on clay will grip the surface (sooner?) and bring the ball in an upward trajectory is correct. The topspin actually works better because of the higher friction. The reason it bounces higher is the coefficient of restitution is higher and because the higher friction actually slows the ball (as you correctly mentionned) converting it in topspin. That said, if the ball bounce with less X speed and same Y speed, the bounce will be higher, but its not because of the original topspin
Bro I need like a 3 hour video going in depth into each of these tournaments along the way and what makes them special
