When I would tell people that my mother was from Spain they would say that I was a colonizer and tell me that I shouldn’t be proud of that. Spain made puerto rico Puerto Rico. The overwhelming majority of it's culture, DNA, traditions come from Spain. And while ironically other Hispanic countries mock Puerto Ricans for their Spanish as broken Spanish, it is vernacularly closest to Spain (especially Andalusian & Canarian Spanish which is practically identical). Plus, it's one of the countries that can have dual citizenship with Spain (Ibero American).
The ONLY thing that unites all Hispanics of different countries is Spanish culture, not race, not ethnicity. Take away all of Spain's contributions to Puerto Rico and it'd be unrecognizable. There's a good video on RUclips called "El Boricuazo Islas Canarias en El Circo de La Mega" where Jesús Omar Rivera Dávila goes into detail as to how much of Puerto Rico is Spanish.

He said bullshit like there was 1 million natives in the bahamas before the Spanish came and after that they all died, there was no genocide the only genocide in South America and Central America was the genocide the Aztecs Mayans and Incas committed on children women and other smaller villages and civilizations, villages and civilizations which got allied with Spain to beat these empires. There was no native slavery except for war prisioners which were still treated human Gad rights and only became slaves for a maximum of 10 years. Let's see, response to the ignorant girl who speaks of colonization and genocide. Puerto Rico has a higher percentage of Spanish blood than Spain itself in its inhabitants. On the other hand, in the old overseas provinces of Spain (which were not colonies) Since they had the same rights and connections since 1518 and it was reflected in a document (Treaty of Burgos) Regarding the plunder, Spain left 30 universities in Latin America, when in Use in 1750 there was only one. Gold in the 16th century was very difficult to extract, but since this girl has never worked in her life, she doesn't know. The gold was not stolen, it was exchanged for farm animals such as horses, cows, pigs that did not exist in America. Clothes, equipment of all kinds. Etc. As a last piece of information, I will tell you that there are still Native American Indians in all of South America. And in the USA there are only Indians left in the states with a Spanish name and that were part of the Spanish province of New Spain. Montana, Nevada, Florida, New Mexico, California, Louisiana, Colorado, Texas, etc. The black legend that the fucking English concocted to destroy the Spanish empire. What the citizens of USA do not know. It is that they continue to be governed like Canada, Australia, New Zealand by England.

There was no genocide on the part of the Spanish. Some of the native Tainos died due the illnesses that the Europeans brought with them, because the native people had not yet developed a natural immunity. The native Taino disappeared as separate group, partly because of these illnesses and partly because of intermarriage with the Spanish. 60% of the modern day Puerto Ricans have Taino blood which is anywhere between 15 and 30% of their DNA. Being Puerto Rican means, being a combination of Arawak Taino, African, and Spaniard. But let's not forget that we are US territory and we haven't been under Spanish colonization for over 100 years... In order to move forward, we must learn the lessons from our past. Don't get me wrong, I cringe at the thoughts of what happened to our people. Our complete language, spiritual beliefs, and people were all taken, raped, murdered, and/or enslaved. Let's also not forget that SPAIN HAS CHOSEN TO FALL UNDER EUROPEAN TITLE, EVEN THOUGH THEIR LANGUAGE & CULTURE IS SPANISH (Hispanic/Latino) because they feel it puts them in a higher category. All in all, I am a proud Puerto Rican. I carry multiple bloodlines because of that. My ancestors carry me and guide me. I am responsible for learning my history and my people from generations before me. I am responsible for keeping my people's stories alive. Let them visit. because that is all it was... a visit

It is simply and uncomfortable truth for a delusional people who have a love affair with WHITENESS i.e. Spanish ancestry. I am disappointed but not surprised by the comments that the older generation made and that most Puerto Ricans have. The fact is that Spain did colonize i.e stole their home, raped, murdered and enslaved my Taino ancestors and enslaved, raped, and terrorized my African ancestors. Puerto Rico is not truly 64% percent white. To this day Spain still has almost everyone who wants to be white so badly thinking and identifying under La Regla del Sacar o Las Gracias al Sacar laws in Puerto Rico. If you want to be Spanish so badly give everything that our Taino and African ancestors contributed to the culture back i.e. the food, music, dance and just keep the Spanish parts of the mix.
