Sharing information while also creating an original piece as you adopt that information, makes the video more long lasting in relevancy. Wish people adopt this method of video making.

I dunno why Chen's design still stucked in my head for a long time now when I just think of Arknights. She instantly pops for me whenever I think about it, maybe the clothes are simple enough to remember and its color purpose.

You’re so good at analyzing and adapting artist studies to your own, thank you for these series! I’ve been trying to study Hoshieve’s style to adapt for my future graphic novel since it’s very painterly and textured. Other AK artists seem to be more clean but Hoshieve’s has a certain appeal that you demonstrated. Look forward to more of your work and artist studies!

Arknights / Hoshieve changed my life. My art improved very much ever since I started analyzing (especially shading and composure) and consistently playing this game. I've attracted more commissioners since. Not only that, HG makes whole soundtracks that are always amazing to listen while drawing

Ok, this is almost too much of a coincidence to be true.
Just when I search about it, right the day after I start studying Hoshieve’s style, this video drops?
    Man, my luck is awesome!
I think I’m already pretty close at replicating his style but I’m sure that with this my power shall increase exponentially!!
Just in case the video doesn’t show it for some reason, I have reason to believe that one of the most important elements to his art is actually his oval brush, that thing can add complexity everywhere…
Oh yeah, also overlay layers. Those are very very important.
Edit: Ok, she said it, she noticed the oval brush XD
Edit 2: About the whole ‘Trying to draw in a messy way’ etc…
Yeah… I get it, it can be very painful. Tbh, after a while… you just get a feel for it, my only issue rn for example is the fear of over rendering it.
The flat brush actually helps me a lot with this, for the hair I usually block in a certain colour (the lighter one or “primary one”) and then I start going over it with the flat brush at, about 70% opacity more or less (again, you just get a feeling for this tho reference is also essential, I have a folder with over 400 images named ‘Hoshieve’ for a reason) after that, it depends. For certain characters it can end there, you add some detailing and that’s it, for certain character like Amiya instead, Hoshieve also tends to add touches of some vivid colour (like pure red lines, white scribbles in the bunny ears, light blue or red for the shadows etc…) playing with the colours is actually one of the more entertaining aspects of drawing with that style (and I love every aspect of it)
3dit: Aaand… once again I just noticed that many of the things written above were already said in the video…
Man, I need to finish these things before start writing long comments!
Also, just noticed but here’s a suggestion for anyone trying this at home. The oval brush is NOT for the finishing touches. At least not just that, you’d be surprised at the number of ways that brush can be used (the hair the clothes, the shadows etc…) basically everywhere you need a darker colour or some more complexity you can use it, you can also do the opposite and use a *lighter* oval brush on top of a dark colour, the possibilities are endless!! (Be like me, embrace the oval brush)
    Definitely an underrated tool.

I think being free and creative with texture brushes after base colour application can also help with achieving that painterly graphic style, you can then render on top with the addition of Hoshieve's style elements such as the oval/elliptical brush etc. Experimenting with different hues with the shadows can be extremely fun

Interesting, because in the Chinese community many people dislike 唯@W, because of his more recent work being "ugly" and "lazier" than before, he barely produces new great looking artworks anymore. He often draws all the characters with the same "straight face" and similar posture. The Chen alter E2 art got a lot of backlash from players because of that face, and some people even think he should step down from the role of art director for not meeting expectations. I have no strong emotions against him, but I do think a lot of other AK artists produce better artwork than 唯@W now

It was just that one Operator, who was already heated beyond the visual aspect so the design came under flak
And they're one of the founding members and chief art directors! If they were to step down who knows what would happen to the bombastic art direction of Arknights
