I remember in the movie Elvis, had said "I'm so tired of being EP all the time " I can believe and understand that wholeheartedly. This poor man had too many people depending on him financially and I honestly believe that he was tired. He was just tired of being EP.I think he took drugs to escape, he was in pain and his mind wouldn't let him sleep well. There has to be so many reasons why he did what he did but, I'll never stop loving him and wishing he was with us. Unfortunately, we only live once and we'll never see him again but, I'm glad that he's free from pain, suffering and whatever he was going through. I pray that he's at peace now. It always gets me the “ I’m a federal narcotics agents , I AM “ the way the audience cracks up laughing . He was so surrounded by yes men that in his head there was nothing unusual about saying that😂 long live the king keep up the good work 👍
President Richard Nixon made him some sort of special narcotics agent. That's why Elvis Presley was able to carry a gun anywhere. Richard Nixon gave him a license to carry anywhere he wanted.
Poor man - he is anxious about what the fans think of him. Dr Nick said he was in denial about his addiction. Fans will always rationalise his behaviour but he was starting to lose it. It breaks my heart.
Everyone has a breaking point. Those movie magazines as he puts it were trash. They loved writing negative things and alot of times it was false information. He was tired and hooked on prescription drugs. I had a family member that doctors kept giving him all types of prescription drugs and at times he was strung out. My grandmother got him into seeing a different doctor and they got him off most of the pills. You just do not quit them, he had to get help. I think Elvis knew as I heard he wanted to take time off for himself. Everyone around him was more worried about the money they would not have so getting him help would had financially hurt them as well and not just him. He loved his fans and did not want to disappoint them. So sad all the way around. No matter what Elvis will always be number 1 to me.
Love it! He went full tilt "Angry Southerner" lol! It's sad to watch this period of time when the wheels were starting to come off, but there are also so many beautiful and funny moments during this period that looking back we are blessed to them them available to us. For my money though, the worst concert was the 3am show in Vegas on Sept. 2 where he does about 14 songs at best and goes off on several rants. The famous "strung out" speech, etc.
No there were definitely a lot of good moments in 74. There were a lot of good moments in THIS concert. Can’t help falling in love was one of them. Like I said in the video and on Instagram. People shouldn’t see Elvis thru rose colored glasses. Yes he was great, but he was also human. He was strung out here. Definitely sounds high in my opinion. Still a fun show for what it was. But, for people thinking they were going to see ALOHA Elvis or MSG Elvis or 68 comback Elvis, they were in for a rude awakening.
@@ElvisistheMan_ Amen to that sir! The record buying public circa 1974 definitely got their feathers ruffled here! I kinda like that! Elvis was one tough dude!
I don’t think it’s his worst concert, but definitely it’s not good, it’s really sad to hear Elvis sounding like this. I think he was tired of the road and needed a break from touring! But on the other hand when he wasn’t on the road, pleasing the audience, he would stay locked in his room, and that was even worst for him. Poor Elvis, he was so ill, not just physically but psychologically.😢
What most people fail to see and understand is that at the time of this concert Elvis was very sick, he gave his best with what he had available to him at the time. I love the way he didn't take their cr*p. I dare anyone to get on stage in tremendous physical pain from various health conditions and still give a star performance like Elvis did 99% of the time.
The slurred words are a giveaway. But in his mind, he was on prescription meds, so it wasn't the same. This was a different era. People were less aware of the power of prescription drugs. All of it has the tragic feeling of inevitability. Doing so many shows, as he did, is incredibly taxing. To have to get in front of thousands of screaming fans and always have to be "on" is just too much pressure for any human being. I've watched several of this channel's vids, and now I am subscribing. You're doing a good job and an honest service to the legacy of Elvis. Much as I loved the movie, that was fantasy in a lot of ways.
Everyone else is I know is being good 😊 😇 so they be can go to Heaven 🙏 and see dear departed loved 😍🤩 ones. I'm good so I can go to Heaven and see my ELVIS!!!! Long Live the King!!!! 👑 🎶 🎵
@elvisistheman thank you for telling it like it is and keeping it real big fan of yours love your channel and your videos you put your heart and soul into it buddy! Love Elvis he was one of a kind there will never be another he was a human being with faults and issues but he will always be number one never another like him ever!
Elvis talked to the fans in every show and you had the feeling he was talking just to you which of course wasn't true but it was part if his charm. I never heard him with this tone. But, this may be just a clip of something very different. If I have time for it, I'll watch the rest. But as far as Elvis long talks, he always had them. He'd talk about himself and others.
And that accent makes him even more listenable! Coming from an Aussie perspective, I love all the American accents, but the Southern drawl makes me drool 😋
I was just getting home from shopping for things for my freshman year at college when I heard the news that Elvis had died (August 16, 1977). His transition, like the assassinations of JKF and John Lennon, and the deaths of JKF, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessett Kennedy, and her sister Lauren Bessett, Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth, II, is one that you will forever remember where you were when it happened. I was born in Memphis, but raised in Milwaukee, WI. My mother is interred in Memorial Park Cemetery, in Memphis, and Memphis will forever be the city that gave birth to me‼️ Rest in Paradise, Elvis. 🙏🏽❤️
I don’t get why someone who claims to be a fan would post something like this and try to disparage him. It’s so unnecessary. His fans are well aware of the difficulties he lived. I feel nothing but love, admiration and compassion for Elvis. Anyway, I think he sounds ok and I don’t blame him for telling the guy not to boo. Booing is just plain rude.
Obviously whatever was supposed to take the edge off of his wake up pills either hadn't kicked in yet or something but he was borderline frantic in trying to convince perfect strangers that he wasn't standing there high as f*** LOL Elvis's human and it's all good 😉
At least in 1974, EP must have, at least, realized at some level that he had a problem in spite of the fact that the meds were legal. According to Reeca Smith, who was a friend of Ricky's, said in Alanna Nash's book "Baby Let's Play House..." that Elvis "counseled her about the dangers of prescription drugs, saying he didn't ever want to catch her taking them. In fact, Ricky tried to give me something one time, and Elvis heard about it, and oh, my goodness, he hit the ceiling." This took place in 3/74. It seems that he knew he had a problem, but maybe unwilling or unable to get off the meds.
To get out of an addiction. Even for a normal person you have to stop your job and take vacations for 6 months at least and stay away from the environnement of the addiction and from people remember you the problem. Imagine how many people live on Elvis Presley business contrat a lot.
@@patriciaferrini8652 You're right, he certainly had a lot of people depending on him. My understanding is that EP was planning to take some time off when he was finished with this next tour to address his health issues and to make other necessary changes. So sorry that he wasn't able to see it through.
He was in DENIAL no doubt about that ... the fact that he says I'll whoop your a--- to the fans speaks volumes ... he looks half asleep in those photos ... I agree with you dave ... you've got to love him it was funny !!!
Yeah he was desensitized to speaking to audiences like that by this point. That summer he also told someone who spoke out in the audience “F*ck You!” 😂
F*** you? Wish I could hear/see that video! Jerry lee Lewis was the only other singer that I heard using that word on stage, and he had been openly drinking whsky (or whatever alcohol it was) during his performance. This was in Melbourne Australia in the early 1970s and the audience cracked up laughing! The media weren't so impressed though, and he was told to tone down the language for the following night's show. He did - we were there again😊😄
The guy that "booed" was actually doing it when Elvis said he didn't drink or take stuff... just in a humorous way, like if you'd say Ive never done a drug in my life, and someone would jokingly resond w, "I'm sorry to hear that", or something sarcastic like that... they didn't actually "boo" Elvis.
It is a real shame his family should of had him sent to rehab and let’s not forget all the musicians with him how he must of effected them, I did see sometime ago Ronnie Tutt saying when he turned up he was great but other times it was really frustrating,
As he once said " the image is one thing and a human being is another. It's hard to live up to an image" but boy oh boy what an image and what a human being. Thank you for sharing this,
I believe this was the city where Sonny said Elvis’s limo pulled up to the front of the hotel entrance, & when he went to open Elvis’ car door Elvis practically fell out of the car. He was using dilaudid at this time.
When Elvis was so sick and yet he insisted on doing his concert. An 8th degree black belt? Wow! I knew he was an agent. I knew he was a karate expert, too. They should be glad that we got to hear him talk.
2:12 They booed him after he said he didn't drink...however..he does sound like he is trying to cover the obvious lol ...rest easy E...we still talking about you in 2022 lol
I agree with you David. Im not sure if the rag mags were onto him (I assume they were?) All I know is that I began to think he was under the influence of something because of how he looked in photos and slurring his words in concerts etc. I always hoped that I was wrong, not wanting to believe that he could have a serious problem?! I didn’t condemn him but felt so bad for him if it were true ..no fan wanted to believe he was using! This makes me sad ….
@@ElvisistheMan_ I know I did. My thoughts were that he had a problem, he was not the same man after ‘71 imo. I realize he was getting older but it was more than that! Was he trying to convince his fans or convince himself?!
hahahaha....elvis is clearly on prescription drugs while trying to convince the audience that he is clean....i find it hilarious....the fans couldn't care less....the fans loved him no matter what....RIP!
He was strung out for a short period of time if they would a kept doctor Nick out of the picture Elvis would still be alive today His band and everyone around him was making a lot of money and a lot of fame they loved it but they never really paid much of attention to how it was destroying Elvis Until it was too late and even then they all wanted to make money off a book and everything they could and a lot of the books did nothing but trash Elvis some friends they were if they were true Friends they would have helped him more to get away from doctor Nick and those that was pushing the drugs on him He will always be the king of rock and roll And the people around him were the ones that let him down they should be ashamed of themselves But they were not they were making plenty of money and getting in the press all the time
What a dumb quote, pushing the drugs on him ,he was getting drugs from Nick and also went doc shopping to Vegas to get whatever he wanted because flash was rewarded greatly.
Dr Nick was trying to keep the outside drugs from coming in. He had a nurse on the premises and a strict schedule on his meds in exactdoses. But one of the Stanley boys would fly out and get the prescription from one or more of the unscrupulous Drs,and bring the drugs in to Elvis. Even when Elvis was in the hospital, Dr Nick would find bottles with hundred's of pills in his room and throw them out,! Dr Nick got the bad rap concerning Elvis. The guys even said if Dr Nick was with Elvis, that Elvis was alot better health wise and drug wise.
To be honest, the worst things about this concert were the song lists and that horrific jump suit. I’ve never seen so many 50s medleys/songs in a concert like I did with college park. I’ve got a woman/amen lasted for TEN minutes , fever lasted for 5 minutes, band introductions were around 8 minutes. But I can’t help falling in love was brilliant. Overall, i was a lot less happy with the songs than with Elvis’ performance, there were 3 decent (Live) songs there at most. Polk salad Annie is great, but after listening to it so often I typically skip over it. When you actually look at everything, you see that there’s about 10-15 minutes of songs where Elvis can actually work his voice which is why I believe he did everything he could with can’t help falling in love. It was a very “safe” concert in my opinion, almost like a nostalgia trip for the audience. I haven’t watched the video yet so I’m not sure if you mentioned it, but the management afterwards are believed to have told Elvis (or his team) to “never come back”
No I didn’t ever hear management said to Elvis “don’t come back!” That’s crazy because Elvis was easy money back then. But yeah I tend to agree. Elvis gave the crowd a little extra with CHFIL to make up for what was lacking in the show.
It's Funny and it's Ridiculous about "they don't give the Narcotics badge to just anyone"- because if you here the White house staff describe how he pretty much begged for his official badge..Lol...Awww Elvis...doesn't mean I don't love him
For Elvis it wasn't good but my main problem I had with it is he was unhinged outside of that it wasn't the worst ever but it's up there especially for Elvis with his standards as a performer.
He Always Wanted To Satisfy His Audience! 💯 N Yea Of Course He Was On Something 😔 - & Yea He Def Was Telling The Truth Bout The Narcotics n Karate 🥋-😔 he got caught up in drugs in the mitary- of
QUESTION: I thought it was the girlfriends responsibility to check on EP every 10 minutes when he got out of bed to go to the bathroom. I recall Linda T. saying that's what she did. Sheila R. also said the same thing. I recall Mindi Miller saying, that when she was "interviewed" as a potential girlfriend prior to meeting EP, that she was told right up front that she would need to check on him every 10 minutes when he was in the bathroom. So, it was protocol. Now, I'm currently reading "The Death of Elvis" and in this book it refers to his handlers (ex. Ricky/David Stanley) who were supposed to stay in the bathroom with him until he was finished reading and they could rest on a bed that was setup in bathroom. So, when was this "handler" protocol implemented? Was it always in place? Was it something new that was implemented after LT? Thoughts please? Thank you.
@vilma moro Thanks for your response. I see it under the "notifications," but not here any longer or my reply so I'm reposting. So, I'm trying to figure out when the "handlers" became part of the protocol. (I guess "handler" is synonymous to bodyguard since the Stanley brothers were supposed to be on duty on the 16th.) So, at least, we're agreed that the gf's through LT, checked on him every 10 minutes. Did Ginger? If she did, it didn't happen that night as she took a quaaalude. In the "Death of Elvis Presley," Ginger says the "handler" (bodyguard) was supposed to stay in the bathroom for "protracted episode" (I guess when EP would stay for long time.) Never heard of this before as LT would never go to sleep until she was sure EP was okay. Never heard the term "handler" or the bed in the bathroom until this book. When you have someone else picking your girls out for you and you need someone in the room with you at all times, its challenging to have a "normal" relationship. Not that it couldn't morph into a loving relationship, but does take on the appearance of a "business" arrangement. All of these girls, Joyce B., Sheila R, Mindi, M. really did not spend much time with him. For example, Joyce's relationship was 8/69 - 2/72. But when you read her book, you are able to establish a timeline of when they were actually together, which was only approx. 35 days out of 900+. Linda spent more consistent time with him and traveled more with him than any of them, including Priscilla, in my opinion.
9/30/2022 The mistake that the narrator is making here is to fail to distinguish between what Elvis was talking about & the condition of his health, while doing so. ANYONE who has a legitimate health problem & needs to take medication for it, is unavoidably subject to it's side effects. It is wrong therefore, for the narrator (whom I thought was an Elvis fan) to make the comments he made, mistakenly assuming that Elvis must have been "on speed" while talking; No sir, Elvis was physically ill at this time in his career & Col. Parker should not have been working him to death this way. The Greatest Entertainer That Ever Lived IS Elvis Presley. There IS only one King. Elvis Presley, The Most Successful And Most Decorated Recording Artist Of All Time, IS The Only One King 👑.
On some type of speed? WOW, your inbox is going to fill up with a whole lotta hate mail..LOL. He ranted like this more than once. The last time he was on stage in a good mood was at Madison Square Garden. Once his divorce from Priscilla was final, he went into a free fall. The best thing all his fans could have done would have been to stand up, and walk out chanting, "We Love You, Elvis!" He isn't just talking fast, he has anger in his voice. His tone, and the speed in which he is talking here, were the new normal from late '73 on. What I love about ElvistheMan is, you tell it like it is, because that's the way it was.
This was a very low point it started in Vegas in August with telling the audience he wasn't strung out & berating the hotel 4 firing a waiter & the Colonel got it as well. He got to college point he fell out of the car refused any help went stage & slurred his way through the show berated the audience when they boo him the management at the venue told the Colonel they never wanted him back again Joe Guercio said he cried after that show said he was finished all in all a terrible period 4 the man I have the show on bootleg & it would make you cry just awful.
This was the second night of the tour, the night before was a little worse. I think this show was OK, in my opinion. So what if he talked to much, it meant more time with him!! Anyway, the tour improved as it went on, with much better shows!
That's a neat trick, since Otis Blackwell claimed he never even met Elvis. I'm sure Leiber and Stoller, Pomus and Shuman, Mark James, Mac Davis, and countless others would find your statement amusing.
That late summer/fall was clearly a crisis time for Elvis. These shows from this time period were not as bad as sometimes reported. The monologues I find troubling though. I’m guessing 90% or more, of the people at these show were completely unaware of the stories in the movie magazines. They were there because they were fans or just wanted to see what Elvis was all about. After hearing those monologues I’m guessing more than a few people wondered what was going on after listening to that and probably looked at what was being said in the movie magazines. He didn’t have to deal with the internet and instant access to information. There was no need to defend himself on stage. Say nothing and just do a professional entertaining show and people will dismiss what they see in movie magazines and the tabloids. Unfortunately I think you’re exactly right about the use of drugs during this period. Just from Elvis’ tone during those late August/September Vegas shows and some October shows I’m guessing that might have been a difficult time to be around Elvis. Thankfully things seemed to improve by 75 when at his shows he came across as a likable guy again. I’m a huge Elvis fan and I don’t mean to sound harsh but for me those monologues in hindsight gave a glimpse of the demons that were lurking just below the surface at times.
Yeah I totally agree with your comment. It just made him look guilty and actually made people look at the movie magazines I assume because of his long monologues. If Elvis just put it went out and gave a professional grade show nobody would’ve thought anything like you said and they wouldve dismissed it. The thing was, Elvis wasn’t giving many professional shows (at least not on a consistent basis) and knew that he was going to be drugged up a lot so he decided a rant would solve it LOL. Not in his right mind for sure. But still love him
From what I researched Elvis had a strong admiration for LEO’s and he wanted an official badge. He had to get it directly from Nixon as LE did not want to give him an actual real badge. I could have read it wrong .

He actually got a federal narc badge from Nixon when he visited the White House in 1970. Strange but true 🤪
President Richard Nixon made him some sort of special narcotics agent. That's why Elvis Presley was able to carry a gun anywhere. Richard Nixon gave him a license to carry anywhere he wanted.
Exactly!!!! Pure Elvis right here. He was a busy guy!!!!!! Trash talking magazines. Love this man so much!!
Poor man - he is anxious about what the fans think of him. Dr Nick said he was in denial about his addiction. Fans will always rationalise his behaviour but he was starting to lose it. It breaks my heart.
He is the best he gave people his best . Loves his fans ....
With all his issues he's still the best with that golden voice. Nothing negates that voice.
The way I look at it is I wouldn't mind if he wanted to talk alot or not, it's Elvis!!!
I could sit for hours and listen to him talk, sing whatever.
Elvis just stating how he feels he probably was taking a little something but sounds normal to me he loves his fan
He still is the best ever entertainer that ever lived no one will ever match him in my lifetime 🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸🧸
Poor Elvis! HE was forced to live under huge pressure in constant nervus stress straining every nerve to the limit. Sometimes that limit was spent.
Thanks for sharing this with us. I enjoyed listening to it...
Elvis is awesome no matter what.
Definitely not the worst concert. For me even if Elvis talked for the entire night, still would of been okay, 💯👍
Thanks brother I appreciate it and Elvis is the Man 💯
Elvis talked to the fans in every show and you had the feeling he was talking just to you which of course wasn't true but it was part if his charm. I never heard him with this tone. But, this may be just a clip of something very different. If I have time for it, I'll watch the rest. But as far as Elvis long talks, he always had them. He'd talk about himself and others.
Love this clip you played ,it's trash he says ,he didn't need to justify himself ,I want the people to get the best he says and he sure did !❤️❤️😍
My mom was there and she said he was great
Thanks for this karaoke king stanley elvis just proves he was human and everyone has a breaking point even the King himself
ELVIS WAS HUMAN, He had to put up with a lot of crap to make Him angry.
He was only human. Elvis always wanted the best show for his fans. Hate I never saw him in person.
"Run like a som'bitch, honey" 😂
I love this so much 😂😂 he’s just so interesting to listen to 🖤
And that accent makes him even more listenable!
I love it, it's just Elvis. He wasn't perfect but he was the king. He was angry as he had a lot coming at him.
Who's saying he is disparaging him ,he's a real fan he doesn't sugar coat , Elvis was human and had flaws get over it ,
Obviously whatever was supposed to take the edge off of his wake up pills either hadn't kicked in yet or something but he was borderline frantic in trying to convince perfect strangers that he wasn't standing there high as f*** LOL Elvis's human and it's all good 😉
At least in 1974, EP must have, at least, realized at some level that he had a problem in spite of the fact that the meds were legal.
I lovee Elvis however he is. I love his remarks. I love your videos Elvis The Man. ❤
This was funny and entertaining! I guess Elvis needed to vent after reading these magazines, etc.. Love it. Thanks.
Poor Elvis Presley he was only human like the rest of us we we're born both on January 8
That summer he also told someone who spoke out in the audience “F*ck You!” 😂
@@ElvisistheMan_ Whoever that guy was is still bragging about it today..lol what a badge of honor to have Elvis tell you to F Off
lol I've heard it ... someone shouted something at him!!
@@ElvisistheMan_ 😬🤣🤣🤣
Very interesting I think elvis was trying his best to deny the fact he had a problem and he knew that the media knew it to. So sad
Love it !
Elvis Presleys, I agree not the worst concert he is funny that is cool.
Thank you for sharing this,
I loved what he said x
I believe this was the city where Sonny said Elvis’s limo pulled up to the front of the hotel entrance, & when he went to open Elvis’ car door Elvis practically fell out of the car. He was using dilaudid at this time.
When Elvis was so sick and yet he insisted on doing his concert.
An 8th degree black belt? Wow! I knew he was an agent. I knew he was a karate expert, too. They should be glad that we got to hear him talk.
He is always interesting,so bad day still the King
This is so interesting!! Loved it
2:12 They booed him after he said he didn't drink...however..he does sound like he is trying to cover the obvious lol ...rest easy E...we still talking about you in 2022 lol
So people started asking themselves questions when they started seeing Magazine covers?
@@ElvisistheMan_ I know I did. My thoughts were that he had a problem, he was not the same man after ‘71 imo. I realize he was getting older but it was more than that! Was he trying to convince his fans or convince himself?!
Not just magazine covers, there were rumors as well about his concert performances
Hurricane watch and I am PREPARED!! ELVIS PLAYLIST is on here in Orlando area ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
I had to laugh about Elvis still he the King of Rock n Roll!❤️🇺🇸
hahahaha....elvis is clearly on prescription drugs while trying to convince the audience that he is clean....i find it hilarious....the fans couldn't care less....the fans loved him no matter what....RIP!
Love evils he is so beautiful. Human being.
Yes he's making this bold statement to throw off the truth but it's the 70s and most people weren't buying it.
The king, after 1977, the image is still the king, hard to pls everybody, even jesus was nailed.
The worst concert in my opinion was the Houston show on August 28, 1976. He's so out of it, he had trouble keeping in time with the band
It's Funny and it's Ridiculous about "they don't give the Narcotics badge to just anyone"- because if you here the White house staff describe how he pretty much begged for his official badge..Lol...Awww Elvis...doesn't mean I don't love him
I dont think its worst .... i saw the footage too its fantastik concert! T.C.B
For Elvis it wasn't good but my main problem I had with it is he was unhinged outside of that it wasn't the worst ever but it's up there especially for Elvis with his standards as a performer.
He Always Wanted To Satisfy His Audience! 💯 N Yea Of Course He Was On Something 😔 - & Yea He Def Was Telling The Truth Bout The Narcotics n Karate 🥋-😔 he got caught up in drugs in the mitary- of
I feel like - I believe him
QUESTION: I thought it was the girlfriends responsibility to check on EP every 10 minutes when he got out of bed to go to the bathroom.
The pills had taken over at this time. Saw him early 70s and he was dynamite, no equal and I have seen a lot of the greats!
Off topic to this video, but what version of Pack It Up is that? Where can I find it?

Lol
Yeah the audio quality of the first was bad. This was was a lot better. I enjoyed the show tho!

otis blackwell is the king he told Elvis how to sing and he wrote his hits Elvis imitated him
That's a neat trick, since Otis Blackwell claimed he never even met Elvis. I'm sure Leiber and Stoller, Pomus and Shuman, Mark James, Mac Davis, and countless others would find your statement amusing.
Elvis is one of the best but he not the King of Rock and Roll to Me
Elvis quote « i am a federal narcotics agent « 🤣🤣🤣
But still love him
This makes me sad. Why even play it or post something sad like this…??? Hurts my heart…😢
Maybe Mick Jagger was right on thinking Elvis as a naive guy. Headlines are kind of stuff the press survives...
From what I researched Elvis had a strong admiration for LEO’s and he wanted an official badge. He had to get it directly from Nixon as LE did not want to give him an actual real badge. I could have read it wrong .
