    During my trip to New York City last week, I filmed a total of 8 different trucks, while I saw and took pictures of at least 20 others. If you would like to see those pictures, check my Flickr page. As most of you know and can see here, there are no ASLs or FL’s running in New York City, as the tight one way streets harbor no room for such large vehicles. Therefore, Rear Loaders are needed to parallel park or for the workers to hop on and off (like DSNY) for quicker collection throughout the traffic-ridden NYC streets.
    In this video and Part 2 (which will be uploaded next week) you will see a number of privately owned RL’s collecting metal recycling or mixed construction material from the sites in high rise apartment or office complexes. The reason why the small dumpsters are needed is so they can efficiently cart material in the elevators from upper levels.
    First in this video you will see a Silver Services Autocar WX/Leach 2RII RL dumping some metal recycling a few blocks away from where I stayed. I was pleasantly surprised to see this my very first night within 2 hrs from when I arrived in NYC. It worked late into the night and left around 9pm.
    Next is a K&A Construction Services Volvo WX/ Leach collecting material from another site across town. The guys were chill and enjoyed me filming them. I was only disappointed that I didn’t see the Mack MRU/McNeilus that took the first load of trash and was leaving as I got there.
    Third is a DSNY Mack MRU/McNeilus RL collecting the infamous neck-high bag piles left out at the curb in front of buildings daily in the city. I was lucky to catch this guy as DSNY does most of their residential pickup late at night or before 6am in the morning. I was only able to film them at one stop as I had other plans that day.
    Last is a classic Mack RD600/Pak-Mor RL owned by Filco Carting collecting recycling and trash? from the restaurant below my hotel at around 10:30pm! Although it didn’t rev when it packed it was still a cool truck. Sorry if you couldn’t see or had a bad view of it -it was filmed at night and my camera couldn’t adjust to the lighting.
    Thanks a ton to the drivers of all the trucks and stay tuned for Part 2!

    Good stuff! Awesome trucks! A republic driver I know was telling me about trash collection in New York, since he used to live there. Told me about those massive pile high trash bags and about the several private companies running around there. He also told me that you could find several garbage trucks across the street from each other. Like all the trucks! Boy the one collecting metal was very fun to watch. Like how those small dumpsters move back and forth on the hook. Also like the McNeilus RL. They design some cool RLs. Can't believe you can find garbage trucks at night there! I think that's pretty cool. Great compilation!

      thelyokofannumber1 Thanks! New York City sure lives up to that standard of generating that much trash. All of what he said was 100% true from what I could tell. Next part will feature trucks that were at a construction site at 12am!

    Sick video man! I really enjoyed the Leach rear loaders eating up demolition waste, as it was also fun to watch those three and four wheels bins being dumped. On the K&A truck I thought it was cool how they used the winch cable to empty the containers. Kind of a funny technique lol.

      TheDFWTrashman Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. i agree it was cool seeing them use the cable to empty them- definitely something you don't see every day.

    I actually find these entertaining. Don't usually like trucks from out of SoCal but I did enjoy this one a lot. Very interesting method of collection, amazed how they emptied it with out the tippers and such. Really like the WG on a RL. Sucks that my WM got rid of mine due to stupid CA emission laws. ~ Nice video Elijah.

    Awesome video! I always love watching videos of the demo rear load trucks, I always find those very interesting. Great video on the DSNY Mack LEU McNeilus, really haven't seen much of those, basically only mainly of the Mack Heils, but the Mack McNeilus combos are pretty cool, too bad Milwaukee only has 2-3 of those combos, I never get tired of DSNY! Great work!

    Great video! Awesome Volvos! I really like the A-Frame tippers that they use, and the winch in the second one was pretty cool too. That DSNY truck was nice, glad you got to film some of them. Cool that is was a McNeilus too, those are less common in their fleet. It looks nice with the lights, and the LEU looks surprisingly not bad. I look forward to the second part!

    Awesome catches Eli! NYC has some awesome old trucks. Different type from SoCal oldies for sure. Not sure, but I think the Volvo and Autocar model is the ACL. But again, not too familiar with the old Autocar models. Anyway, demolition trucks kick butt. I always enjoy seeing those tiny Dumpsters get tipped. It was a very nice contrast between the first and second truck. You see one using the tipper then you see the winch method. That was very cool. Watching these demo trucks at work makes me think how awesome would it be to see these trucks unload haha How long was the K&A truck at that one stop? Looked like it was there for a good 30 mins at least. Btw another awesome music choice. Glad to finally find out what song that was. Been a while since I last heard it. Great catches!

      ***** Thanks- they sure do. I get confused with the names of Autocar and Volvo models sometimes but now that I think about it they might be ACLs. The K&A was probably there for at least 2 hrs. I thought the music would be appropriate for this occasion.

      trashtruck fan11 - hey i used to work demo in NYC i also worked in the trucks. Depends Some truck will stay in one site till the truck is full or they may be dispacted to another site.

    first two trucks are both Autocar ACL. More of a construction line than the WG is. Biggest way to tell the difference (and they are similar) is by comparing the fender on each--particularly around the headlight. Also New York is full of ACLs and the rest of the country has more WG, it seems.
    But recall that yellow LA Parks and Beaches pakmor? That one's an ACL, which just makes it cooler than it already is!
    very happy with the pump whine of the second truck, annoying in a good way :D Also a good operator on that truck.
    And great catch of the LEU Mcneilus, I was pleased when I realized he would be doing that large pile there instead of just litter bins.

      For easy comparison, the Silver Services truck you found in Part 2 is on a WG. Cool that you got that one on film, including a front shot. We saw a similar Silver Services truck on our first day and that was the only C&D driver who declined video.

      ***** Ok thanks for letting me know. Hard to tell the difference sometimes. Yes, LA Beaches and Harbors has or used to have a packmor. Haven't seen it in a while though. Glad you enjoyed the footage!

      SoCalGarbageTrucks Me neither, and I had it solidly written in my head that the LA beaches rear load was on a WG...decided to double check now that I've done the NYC trip and learned more in that area...sure enough it was an ACL. And it seems real common for ACLs to have *both* Autocar and WhiteGMC badges on them, because many of those ACLs were produced close to the time that Autocar took over WhiteGMC.

    Awesome video, do you know what company makes the system with A-frame cart tipper?

    • @socalgarbagetrucks2585
      @socalgarbagetrucks2585  9 лет назад +1

      Mathew Allen Thanks... since this was the first time me seeing those A-frames, I am not familiar with them so I can't really give you a correct answer.

    • @mathewallen6325
      @mathewallen6325 9 лет назад +1

      Ahhhh, how do they normally dump them then?

    • @socalgarbagetrucks2585
      @socalgarbagetrucks2585  9 лет назад +1

      Mathew Allen Some of these RLs use a chain and winch, and the rest I'm guessing use the A frame. Again, I was only in NYC for a week so I didn't get enough time to explore everything.
