  • This first episode of the New York Tour series features Royal Waste Services based out of Hillside, NY. Royal has been operating for more than 10 years and has one of the only food waste transfer stations in the City.
Featured in this video are two crews; one doing commercial wet garbage and the other on a food waste route using a Summit non-compaction rear-bucket truck. This truck does one to two loads a night hauling anywhere from 12-20 tons a night. For comparison, DNSY has a food waste route that collects only 4 tons a day.
Food waste recycling is relatively new to New York City because it doesn't have the infrastructure in place to recycle and compost it. Royal Waste was one of the first companies to establish a food waste program and create a facility to accommodate, prep and load trailers which take the compost to McEnroe Organic Farm in upstate New York.
Please share, comment and like this video to help spread the word about the private carting companies which tirelessly work in New York City cleaning up almost 5 million tons of trash a year.

There's always something different on the garbage scene of New York - I love the variety of companies and equipment posted on here from the location, the night action is awesome too. The engine on that RL sounds beast when it starts up and returns to idle, even got that nice sound of the exhaust rebounding off a building in one clip during the cycle. Cool to see those small steel containers being used for general waste instead of demo material, always enjoyed how they're essentially dumped into the hopper with all the garbage before being pulled up and out :D

Brian Spencer I would guess it's the amount of hopper juice? Strange classification though.

Wet waste is usually considered food waste and dry waste is normal trash
