      @@beckiejbrownI've never been on a plane. I never even got round to getting my first passport. I really want to visit some really good friends in Toronto Canada but I fear a migraine attack. There are so many things to do with flying that can trigger a migraine attack, even air pressure!

    I did a solo trip to Edinburgh about 7 years ago and loved it. Did several of the same things. It's a beautiful place.
    I didn't know at the time but I went just before fringe which was perfect because it wasn't so busy but the university halls were open as cheap accommodation for fringe so I stayed in a single room for super cheap.
    So pleased you enjoyed it as much as I did :)

    It has been decades since I have been to Scotland (or anywhere, for that matter. (Health reasons, darn it.) I keep saying I have to go again before I die!
    I have done most of my traveling alone. I once rented a car and spent three weeks traveling through Scotland and England. I stopped at almost every castle and Manor Home I passed! And I loved it! (Scotland & Lictenstein were my favorite countries. Now why couldn't those two be closer together!)
    Every time I went to Scotland, I headed for Greyfriar's Graveyard and that statue first thing. I saw the movie so long ago only once and the whole thing is imprinted on my soul. I am a dog person through and through. The image of Bobby going to sleep on his master's grave every night for 14 years is so sad, but so comforting. The large, reddish stone was for his master, John. It was said Bobby was buried next to his grave, but there was no stone for him. It seemed like such an injustice after putting that graveyard on the world map! Is there one now? If not, I do wish there would be. (I like the sticks for Bobby though!) His loyalty knew no bounds. It is such a wonderful story. I need to track down that video and watch it again.
    Most of my ancestors were Scottish, so I guess the fascination with the country is understandable. I haven't watched all of Highlander either - yet! What on earth have I been doing!
    I am so glad to see videos of you, young lady. You do seem happy. It is an up and down thing for most of us. I am glad you enjoyed the trip and all the Art. After following you since you were a young teen, it is good to see you having fun. Do not let labels rule you. Just take and make your fun and enjoy it as much as you can! I am so glad you discovered kayaking!

    I love solo traveling. It's so much nicer to just be able to do my own thing. People think I'm weird, so it's nice to see someone else who gets it.

    • @beckiejbrown
      @beckiejbrown  9 месяцев назад +1

      Has pros and cons certainly. I think travelling single is far more expensive which I find so frustrating.
      Times when you want to have a partner on the bus cuddiling for warmth or making memories WITH someone as opposed to the endless life lived inside our own minds. I'd love to then reflect back to it with someone who has seen me happy at those stages and appreciates my quirks...
      The pros are - no pressures of sex at the end of the day to enjoy time away, no one holding you back if they don't agree or engage with what you're up to. Can really concentrate on what we love rather than faffing for someone else (or children I suppose). Not worrying about splitting bills, or paying the right amount at meals... or even having meals paid for or paying for entire meals. You just do you. Depending on what the travel is, its certainly better. I know for example - waltzing around galleries on my own has always been better than with partners so far in my life - they just haven't got me or seen what I see

    • @chrisschurke4151
      @chrisschurke4151 9 месяцев назад

      @@beckiejbrown Those pros all sound pretty good... I guess the ideal traveling companion would be someone who wants to do cool things but is also respectful of one's desire to do their own thing, and is therefore capable of going off and doing their own thing too. I'm quite an introvert and in the past I've found that people (mainly partners) take it as a personal insult if I do need time to be alone with my brain, and that's probably shaped my perpetual solo adventurer lifestyle.

      @yvettemadelaine 9 месяцев назад

      @@beckiejbrownthese cons sound like you’ve had some pretty ordinary rships in your life Beckie- me too. But then I found my partner. You will find someone who places no sexual expectations or financial controls on you. Good people are out there❤ You look so happy x

    I visited Scotland for two plus weeks back in 2001. Loved it to death; however, my friends lived in St. Andrews and talked about the summer vs the winter. In the summer, they were like, "please birds, it's 4am in the morning, stop chirping!" In the winter, "oh, it's really dark outside, time to knock off working / grading papers / doing research . . . oh crap, it's only 4pm!" They said that the lack of daylight did make things rough for them during the winter. Luckily, schoolwork on their masters / doctorate kept them focused.

    As a fellow autistic person, large crowds of people don’t (necessarily) bother me. It really depends on whether there are any expectations for me to talk to them, whether I view them as judging me, how much sensory information is being shoved at me, etc. Amusement parks don’t bother me because, yes, there’s lots of people, but you’re still kind of… invisible. No one cares whether you’re there or not, you’re a background character. Which I enjoy haha. I love to travel. That’s when I’m at my happiest and most at peace, and I enjoy traveling with family. Honestly, the idea of traveling by myself is terrifying. I hope you get to travel more in the future.

    I find that the hate of people isn't so much about the autism itself. It's got a separate origin that can be addressed separately. And depending on what that separate origin is (there are multiple options) it can be changed over time, or you're still stuck with it.
