Hi friends! Happy July! 🍓 I hope yalls month is going great so far. Is it just me or does anyone else feel like time is certainly flying? Anywho thanks for clicking on today's video! It's been my vision for a very long time to have lots of plants in the backyard and while we couldn't make that a reality last year before our wedding, we were able to get it done this summer! I love the way it all turned out and we feel like our backyard has even more charm now. Be sure to let us know what you think! 🍓Love you guys!
Yayee! Hiya Mr & Mrs Kayla & Marcus - great outlook @ 23:57 how about putting a fountain. Happy July! Happy Sunday! London UK 🇬🇧
I was so waiting for this video! Absolutely beautiful. This yard is venue ready. ❤😊
Hi Kayla and Marcus, y'all are amazing couple, and I'm very proud of y'all, have accomplished such a short time, the yard looks Beautiful, , Y'all pick a section in your yard for a vegetable garden, Good please Guys 🙏🏾❤️
Your yard looks amazing!!!! 😍🌻🌹🌷
I love the music. Everything is looking so so beautiful y’all. I have Azaleas to, they never die. I believe you’re spoiled a little. You have great parents. Marcus is the best husband. That’s hard work digging holes. Don’t forget to water them. It’s so hot, I water my flowers every other day. The temp reaches 90 degrees.
When planting in the ground dig the hole and put water in it. Add the plant in and water again and add granular fertilizer and then add your garden soil and water one more time. Just so the y don't dry out. You also don't want to use plastic in your yard. It doesn't break down and isn't breathable. Use landscape fabric or cardboard if needed.
Thank you for this….I want to start with a small project but I’m scared I will kill the plants 😅
Oooo! That’s a great tip!! 🫶🏾🫶🏾 thank you love!
Use cardboard, good weed blocker and it breaks down easily too😊
Amazing advice
Lovely. Please, please try to continue to be this way with each other, it's beautiful to see couples in true love and togetherness ❤❤❤❤
I LOVE the pine straw in a continuous bed along the fence. It looks soooooooo much better. Good job, Marcus and Kayla.
Yay! I totally agree! It just made it pop a whole lot more ❤❤❤
Looks great. Next time you have to plant a lot of bushes and shrubs, tell Marcus to invest in a power planter auger, that'll save his back and it'll get those holes dug in no time flat. Great job on all the progress you and he have made. Congratulations!
Yep--shrubs and bushes would look great.
Take your time. Plant as you go. Learn which plants do best in certain locations.
Oooo! We really need to look into that ! Thank you love 💕
Your backyard looks good 🌺 🌱🌸 🌳 !
Suggestions:
1. You can make compost stalls and take your sticks, leaves, and garbage and use the broken down dirt in your plant beds and future raised gardens.
2. You can burn your sticks into in your bonfire.
3. Look into Hugelkultur for your future raised garden beds. You use a layer of sticks and branches at the base which breaks down overtime and helps to enrich the soil. It also helps not to have buy extra soil to fill the beds.
Great ideas!! We will definitely do that next year bc we always have branches falling down from the trees 💕
I definitely love the continuous plant bed more. The care of a hydrangea is in it's name. They love water, and I mean daily watering. If not they lay down and get fussy. Lol. Plus they don't enjoy too much direct sun light. They like morning sun and evening shadow. I just bought my first hydrangea this year, it my favourite flower/plant. I did a lot of research before I bought it. I plan to buy more now that I know how to keep it happy. Great garden work. ☺️💐💐💐
Yesss! Hydrangeas are my absolute fave! We have some in the front by the porch and they are thriving so much! I hope these new ones will thrive in the back and I’ve been giving em lots of water ❤
You should add lots of raised beds for vegetables
Agree, she has plenty of space to put a few raised beds in her backyard
Yes and I'm a fan of kale . Organic kale.
Everything is coming along great! I’m here for the backyard makeover!!! You guys are so talented and blessed with so many gifts of “diy know hows”!! I’m a true fan of it ALL!!❤🙏🏼
100% agree! 😍
Your outdoor space is like a whole vacation so much space to do so many different things!
Right! We want it to be our little oasis ❤❤
You Two are well on your way!!!
Please tell me you are reading the plant tags. Most hydrangeas don't want full sun.
I haven't had good luck with my hydrangeas in full sun. Once I moved them to partial shade they did much better. Also my Azalea bushes are quite big so you can probably get away with spacing them further from other plants. I love the look of the plants along the fence!❤
There are some hydrangeas varieties that can take full sun..I have a strawberry shake in full sun and its doing very well
Her blue hydrangeas and azaleas need more shade.
looks great! I knew that shed was going to be the cutest thing ever. Your yard is big enough that you don't have to go in a straight line. You can make some curves to give it some interest. Also, maybe consider putting some of the same plants together in a group to create a drift of the same things instead of alternating every other plant. it will make the plants that are the same look more lush and give you more of a full, cottage garden look. And you might want to invest in a drip irrigation system to prevent them from drying out in your heat. Gardens are always evolving and if you are anything like me, your garden will change over time as you learn what you like and what you don't. So glad it is turning into your dream back yard! You are doing a great job!
The cottage garden look is one of my faves! Great tip! Maybe we will add some shrubs that floral on the front side of the shed and give it that look ❤
@@YoungLadyBusiness you can always move plants if they will work better in another spot. I'm positive you will make it your own oasis!
Such a blessing to have your man helping you the way he does. So hard to find men to help out that way do we should recognize and appreciate them when they do. Blessings to you both.
I LOVE IT!!!
I’m glad y’all decided to do one panel of hay instead of individual circles of hay.
Kudos to Marcus and your fam for coming through!
Thanks so much!!❤
Water will not penetrate the plastic but it does go thru landscape fabric to water the plants. Be sure to use plenty of water until the plants send roots into the soil. You will see a big difference. Everything looks beautiful. Love the pine straw around the trees also. Just adds a finishing touch.
Yes, we used both to help with weeds and are contemplating taking the plastic up! The roots and base of the plants are fully exposed but now I’m worried
@@YoungLadyBusiness You may need to add a little more topsoil to the plants.
Looking good! Next time you’re making garden beds, look into the no dig, no till method. You basically lay down a bunch of cardboard instead of the landscape fabric and mulch on top of it. It kills the grass and the weeds, but then it breaks down and feeds the soil. I’ve loved it. It also makes it easier to plant more when you’re ready and you don’t have to go through landscape fabric.
Oooo! I’ve never heard of that! I will definitely look into it 😍
You can also lay down cardboard sit your shrubs directly on top of the cardboard (be sure to wet cardboard to point of soaking), and then add high quality raised bed mix soil around your shrubs and entire bed. Right at shrub root ball put your soil mix just up to and level with root ball.
then mulch the whole bed at about 3” Deep with mulch over top of root ball (But Stay 2” Away from the Shrubs Trunk” with a double ground no float mulch. Lowe’s sells this type of mulch.
I’ve been planting like this for 40 years with great success. But you do have to put the raised bed soil mix on the whole bed. By second year your shrubs will start rooting through the boxes into the ground. I had to do this because of back/spine surgery years ago. It works and saves you time and saves your back.
Be sure to water deeply once per week to the point of soaking the whole bed, not just at the shrub. Many people try to water more frequently but not deeply for 10 minutes several times a day. The problem with the short interval watering schedule is it teaches your shrubs to Not reach deep into surrounding soil. So Water Very Deeply and saturate your beds once per week. The mulch will keep them hydrated and the plants will learn to reach deep for moisture.
If you live in a hot southern climate you may have to water twice a week for the first month then back off to once per week.
Happy gardening
You and Marcus are Relationship goals for all ages. Praying for continued blessings over you both!! 🙌🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽
You guys did an amazing job…… it’s always fun when family helps…. Great bonding time. may I suggest a compose bin! 😊 you have so much natural material ( leaves, twigs.) Etc which will be great for your plants a great source of nutrients and will also help and be a great additive for your garden. Markus can build a compose bin in his sleep….. I am sure of it! 😊
Don’t be afraid to stray from straight lines. Deviating lines of plants draws the observer further into your space and gives plants a chance to shine. Very nice job!
I thought about doing that! I should’ve on the back side of the house for sure!! ❤
I agree I think a curvy planting looks more organic and nice. Your yard turned out really nice!
It all looks beautiful! Great job on the new bed, and definitely looks better as one continuous bed. Your white (Annabelle, Incrediball, etc) and Limelight hydrangeas can all take full sun. The colored hydrangeas need only part sun. You’re absolutely adorable!
Thank you hun! ❤
I really love the way your family comes together to help each other❤
The yard looks beautiful!!!
Here’s what my OCD has to say about the shed: “would you mind moving each of the plants slightly to the right so that they are at an equal distance from the door edge?”
😊
Hi hun! I didn’t notice ❤ I’ll fix it 🫶🏾
Your yard is so big and beautiful! Really an empty canvas you can do so much. ❤
Thank you so much!
Your grandma done a great job in teaching you different things great job my grandmother raised me from a baby love ❤️❤️❤️ and always remember God's glory is morning glory wish your well and blessed
That is a big backyard and you guys did a good job bring it up to a 'garden' status. Well done.
Everything looks AMAZING!! You and Marcus are killing the power couple, building equity in all areas, productivity goals!! And get chickens!! You will not regret it. Chickens are hilarious and so sweet...I love being a chicken mom. Can't wait for the next video ❤❤❤
Yesssss!! We want chickens for sure! Next year once we start our veggie garden we will look into it more ❤❤❤❤ I can’t wait! We wanna be like you!
@@YoungLadyBusiness they're yellow with chickens all over them🥰🥰
Love the way you and Marcus work together. I don’t have a green thumb but I think your plants are going to need a really good soaking when first planted.
Yes! We gave them a good watering ❤
The yard looks beautiful. You are doing a good job. I'm a plant mom myself.Keep in mind that not all plants need full sun.
Q
Thank you, I will hun 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
I’ve been a Gardner for years in Georgia. Hopefully, you did some research on your investment. If you do build a raised bed garden, please note it will need 6-8 hours of full sun. Good Luck. We all learn from our mistakes & our backs. Hydrangeas will be in shock first year. Takes them a minute. Will be better next year. Don’t prune them !!
Hi my FAVORITE Couple, I didn't realize how big your backyard is. You can actually have a carnival in your backyard for fun. I am so glad I found your channel ❤Have a Happy And Safe 4th of July 🎉🎉😊
Excellent transformation! Beautifully done backyard makeover! 👍🏾🌻👍🏾🌾🙆🏾
Wow, all that hard work, paid off! Looks AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job as usual💯l the living room floor look amazing as well👍 young people like you and Marcus give me hope for the future
Black plastic landscaping edging would help define the space 100%. Awesome job. The fencing area is my fave😊
Yes! We should definitely add some of that to make the beds pop even more ❤
A curved bed always adds visual interest and the addition of stone also is great.
The flowers looks good next to the fence the whole line is so beautiful you have to keep everything watered until they catches roots everything looks so beautiful
Thanks love! 💕 yesss I’ve been watering them so so much! 🫶🏾
The backyard turned out beautiful! I loved seeing your family pitching in to help. Excellent work as always.
Thanks so much!😍
When you look back at this home, you both must feel wonderful. Take your time. You did the inside, now the out. It looks beautiful
Thank you hun! There’s will much to do on the inside but like you said we are taking our time ❤
Beautiful job Kayla and Marcus. As someone who loves to work in their yard I know firsthand the hard work you guys put in to make it so beautiful…completely love it 😍
I love it! You guys did a fantastic job. Just a few tips for the future, you may want to rent a power auger to dig your holes; you can also add ground edging where the hay meets the grass. This really helps with mowing and with defining your lines. Put water in your hole or wet your roots when planting and add root stimulator. You look so pretty, Kayla. Love your smile and cute dimples. Love seeing you and Marcus working on projects. Great Teamwork! Your joy, when everything is done, speaks for itself. 🙂🙂
Like you I always have something dirty to haul in my car. That is whyvai keep 2 large dropclothes in my car for covering or wrapping things in. My husband was always asking why I needed to have my car washed so often 😊. I love your plant selection and yard.
What a great video. Everything looks so beautiful :) Will you be installing a drip system or do you have to water by hand?
Looks amazing Kayla!! Glad you went with the look of a flower bed. If you dig a little trench around the flower beds, it should keep the mulch in place so you don’t lose too much over time. Definitely rent an augur next time y’all do a big plant job. That would save Marcus a lot time and hard work. Love all the flowers you chose. Beautiful!!
Thanks hun! Yes, we need to do that on the backside of the house for sure! We also may add a landscaping border to define that space too!
You and your husband did a great job 👏
looks great love the pine straw look ! we did something similar at my moms house but with red mulch instead , consider buying spot solar light for each plant to light up ! the dollar store have cute little ones for a 1.25 or amazon have great packs for a reasonable price ! your house is looking great !
Oh what a beautiful, very large yard. An in-ground pool would be nice back there.
Yay Kayla & Marcus! Love all the dif flowers & plants along the fence & yard! The pine straw filler was a good idea! Live u guys! 🫶🏼🌱🪻🌼🌹🌺
Thanks so much Maggie ❤ so happy you like it !
Absolutely beautiful. Great landscaping. Congrats on your marriage.
Flowers are beautiful you have just encouraged me to head to Home Depot to buy some more plants 😂❤❤❤
I was at Home Depot earlier today. Now I wished that I had picked up a few flowers
❤ Everything turned out so pretty!!! I just built my first home with 3 acres of land!!! I am soooo inspired by this video to plant flowers and make it a beautiful.
You are doing fine. Trial and Error. My grandmother told me not every garden will turn out like you want. It is an every changing thing. You will find things that work and those that don't. Never freak out when things die out. Just try something different. Always do your research and go from there. I am 60, been in my home since 2009. It is changing every year. Some years things work great and others it changes. I am finally getting to a point where it makes since. A lot more containers, smaller beds, more plants that can handle the heat. This world changes so much and so has the gardens we plant. Nothing last forever and so change needs to happen. You will get there and it will be great. Get ready to change that garden as the years progress with the world.
One continuous bed looks so much better. I learned a tip watching y'all put down the plastic and the pinestraw, I would've thought you needed to dig out all of the grass and remove it first. This will help me for my project. I also heard something about using old newspaper in lieu of the plastic.
Btw, between that shed and your land you guys have a great spot for an airbnb.
Your backyard looks so pretty and peaceful, I am unsure of your planting zone, did you consider adding shrubs and conifers along for the fence for fall/winter interest.
You are such an inspiration!!! Everything you’ve done to your home so far I soooo love!!! 😍👏🏾
That fabric is going to restrict the growth of some your plants the ones that grows from the ground up.....just make sure the fabric is not covering the ground on those plants ...like all of them
Everything is beautiful! The blue hydrangeas are forced bloomed in a hot house. They may not look so great this first year and that’s ok. But next year they will be beautiful so don’t be discouraged. They need a season to acclimate.
It is very pleasing to watch a young couple working in their own yard and gardens! I watched when you and your Mom did the flowers out front a while back. It all looks real good, but in the years to come it will all be so beautiful and filling out! Good work! Love it all! Start a compost area in the far back so you will have rich soil to amend your gardens with as it breaks down.
For all the stocks in ur back yard we have a firepit we burn them all in firepit well as the pinecones and we also take some pinecorns and burn it in bbq gril for wood chuck it last longer burn in grill.for a long time. I love all your flowers 💐 that you and Marcus planted.. .
Everything looks so good!!! I tried to see if it was mentioned. Just in case it wasn’t on the tag hydrangeas are poisonous to pets, take extra care if Marshy is out on that side. I can’t wait to see them in full bloom ❤
0:11 Me: Girl, that's y'all backyard?😂
It's huge!

You should invest in an anchored stone border. #Picture how #lovely and #2: #Save $ on #replacingmulch AND #reduceHouseholderlawntasks.

#Turn #sticks into #mulch, add to #compost?
I think some landscape block or bricks around the border of the plants will better define and lift up the look of the plants better.
And since your house is white brick, if you buy some brick, spray paint it the same color as the house it will be a nice polished, consistent built in look.
I'm so totally amazed at how much property y'all have! I truly enjoy seeing a young black couple starting off with such a wonderful blessing.
Absolutely Beautiful!
What a labor of love that will be enjoyable to watch it take root and bare a beautiful backyard oasis ❣️
Such a great video! I love how it's all coming together. So pretty!
Her backyard makeover was good she have a good RUclips channel
Hi Kayla. You can use those sticks at the bottom of your raised beds to prevent buying so much soil, and it will break down and fertilize the raised beds.
Why you're not watering the flowers, roots as you plant them, does your hose reach the distance of the fence?
I was praying so hard that you posted today 😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Omg, I'm so happy you did bc i was feeling tired while editing 😍😍😍 thank you boo!
Your welcome. So happy you did!!!!. The yard turned out beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Those plants are going to need lots of water if you want them to survive. It would have been a good idea to put water in the hole before you place them in.
Loving the way it turned out and a Gazebo is a great spot for where the grass is not flourishing.
You Have the Best Smile Young Lady, and I'm impressed with your gardening skills, you and your hubby are so good at everything you do. God's Blessings to you both.
Your fence line looks amazing! The pinestraw is perfectly placed. What do you think of some solar lanterns to light the plants❤
Love it Kayla!! 😍You and Marcus always do such a great job!!
Been following since the buying process of your home. You’re doing amazing!
Your back yard is so nice. I love everything you planted it looks beautiful. You have such a pretty smile.
Flowers are soooo important. Gardening is so relaxing.
I’ve missed your content so much!
Always so peaceful watching.
Digging holes & planting flowers are NO joke! 😅 I planted a rose bush a few weeks back and it almost killed me 😂 but it looks AMAZING!
You both did an excellent job. It was worth it.
You guys need to get a root slayer shovel and a auger to go on Marcus drill.
Kayla, my niece said "Oh, she's pretty!" as your video played on my TV. It was so cute. Also, yay! It looks great and will look even better once they mature! Great decision to make one large bed. Blessings to you and Marcus.
Best part of my Sunday 😊
That’s gonna look really good 👍🏾
I always love everything you and Matcus do!! Great work
I love the continuous flower bed. It looks much better. The blue hydrangeas are going to struggle if they are planted in an area that gets a lot of sunlight. Other than limelight hydrangeas, hydrangeas do not like to be in full sun. Do be sure to check how much sunlight they get.
I was going to comment on the endless summer (blue) hydrangeas, too. They are burning from too much sun!
Happy July and your yard looks absolutely gorgeous I like what you did around the fence and what gorgeous Flowers you put there.
Such beauty love how it all came together. Cannot wait to see you guys get to the point of having your garden so awesome and important. Can't wait to see phase 2 of this video🥰 blessings to you all and love the teamwork and help from your families 🥰🥰
Every turned out so pretty. I was concerned about so many flowers near the Sunroom & your sitting area because of bees but i think you'll be fine! You guys really have such a HUGE piece of land with so much potential. I can't wait to see the future updates! 🥰
I love that whenever you guys are doing projects Marcus is protecting his locs. We stan a loc king!
He takes really good care of his hair 😊
Beautiful yard ❤️❤️❤️
Such a beautiful makeover ❤!!! Thank you for sharing. I love seeing all the updates to your house it's so inspiring 🥰!
Love the idea of the full pine straw along the fence...Looks really pleasing..❤
Thanks so much 😊
Absolutely Beautiful! You, Marcus and your family worked really hard on your flower gardens.
You all are such an inspiration to me. ❤
Awww!!! 😍 Thank you so much!
The floral plants look very nice along the fence . The shed looks so precious. You both did an excellent job with that. I am eagerly awaiting fire pit completion. Was Marshmallow outside during the yard refresh? The shed has a doorbell how cute!
Yesss! She was! ❤ she’s in the video at some point and she loves our backyard so so much!
You should try a herb and vegetables garden with all that space
The continuous bed of straw is Eeevereeething!!!!!! Your yard looks luscious. Beautiful job❤❤❤❤Tfs Pcoff🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Your flower bed with continuous mulch is BEAUTIFUL! Your property looks like a blank canvas A GARDENERS DELIGHT👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽 Greetings from zone 6a!!!
How are those roots going to get water if you put plastic so close around the plant. Use weed cloth so the water can penetrate through to the roots. Those plants need a lot of water!
Landscape fabric or cardboard. She needs to get rid of the plastic.
Yes it’s much better like that. Y’all did a great job. The yard looks BEAUTIFUL. I Love You’ve done. ❤❤❤👏🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The back yard makeover looks REALLY GOOD!!!
Hey Kayla 👋🏾 & family.. it looks so pretty n the pinestraw looks very good.. n i like the continuous look very nice
