Jinhao also has recently released a very similar smaller pen with a nice #6 nib (also cardio/heartbeat style), the Jinhao Dadao 9016. It also comes in this brilliant vermillion color as well as others. (I especially like the transparent amber.) It also has a very large converter, though I think it’s slightly smaller than the one in the 9019. For those for whom the 9019 is uncomfortably large, the smaller 9016 might fit their hand better. I too was surprised by the blue ink that came off in the initial flush. Amazing that they did this quality control in an inexpensive pen. Thanks for this enjoyable video. I too am a great fan of the Firefly TV Series.
@@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 : I enjoy both the 9019 and the 9016, but the 9016 is a more convenient size for carrying around or clipping to a notebook. At this price, you can have both! I think the 9016 currently comes in the vermillion, black, white, transparent colorless, and transparent amber. I think the #6 nib size suits this regular-sized pen.
@@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 : I have the lake blue 9019 with an EF nib, and it is actually a gorgeous intense deep turquoise, not quite the same as the blue in the photos. It’s more attractive IMO, and the EF #8 nib is silky smooth.
Hi Teresa, thank you so much for this wonderful review! Mine, in this red with the heartbeat nib arrived yesterday and I was so excited to ink it up! I've put Diamine Firefly in mine with the gold shimmer and it is an absolute joy (I've ordered a few more!). I absolutely adore your accent, and just from that I knew your handwriting would be incredible. The quote worried me for a second.. Happy writing! Are you on FPN? It is a wonderful community of ink-thusiasts! Get me being creative 😂.
I was on the fence about this one but seeing how much you enjoy yours you pushed me off it and I bought one, a green demonstrator with the medium heartbeat nib. I pronounce it Daddy - O long a, long o. I mean look at the thing.
I liked it so well, I bought the green demonstrator as well, AND the coffee colored 9016, only the 9016 has a fine nib and does not write as smoothly, although I mabe need to try a different ink in that one. By the way, I also got one of my daughters interested in fountain pens and the 9019 was her favorite, out of all my pens. I'm glad you like your pen.
@@obliviousmode575 it is a medium nib, which is very smooth. I have a fine nib in my 9016 and it just doesn't give quite as nice a writing experience. Thanks for watching.
Quite a lot. I don't have calipers to measure with. Item specifications say it's 14-18 mm in diameter. For comparison purposes; a Pilot Metropolitan is 9.8 mm in diameter, although the Metropolitan is a fairly slim pen and mabe not the best to compare to.
@@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 Thank you for your response. I also want to extend my appreciation for the effort and time you dedicated to reviewing for us. Please continue with your valuable contributions.
Yes the 9019 writes lovely and the medium Jinhao nib is excellent (heartbeat or otherwise). I have the clear domonstrator and currently have Diamine Bah Humbug in it. Joss Whedon's Firefly is a great show. Fox pulled it after 14 episodes, which just goes to show they have no idea about SF fans, or anything much really.
The pen, the nib & the TV show. Win, win, win. All are epic. So I subscribed.
Thank you, David.

I might have gotten the 9016 instead, if I saw it first. The 9019 is a handful!

@@catherinehubbard1167 I'd kind of like to get the Lake Blue pen, and put a heartbeat nib in that, but I'll have to think about it.

@@catherinehubbard1167 thank you for telling me this. I'll probably order it, then.
Thank you for sharing about this pen. I bought one for my brother and one for me!

Now that's a big Honkin' pen!
I should have done a size comparison.

Good review! I just ordered the white one in a F nib size. I may get the red one too but in M nib. What nib was yours? F or M?

Howmuch fat it's compared to normal fountain pens?

I think it was the combination of science fiction with the wild west atmosphere that threw viewers off. Thanks for watching.
