  • On the Bosch SMV50M40EU dishwasher may occur a problem with dishwashing liquid leaking from the dispenser door. This problem makes it difficult to use liquid detergents. In this video I propose a possible solution.
    Tools needed: flat head screwdriver
You will need to buy: O-Ring with 3mm thickness, 58/60mm diameter

Bosch has no corporate shame and won't admit this is a design flaw. They instead try to cover their backside by noting in the users manual "Sometimes liquid detergent may leak out despite the detergent dispenser being closed. This is not a problem." When one pays thousands of dollars for a "quality" dishwasher only to have to hand wash dishes that are streaked with dried detergent because the high end Bosch dishwasher wasn't able to clean the dishes properly, it IS a problem. I had the local Bosch service provider replace the dispenser under warranty but the new dispenser leaks as well.

I put inside 3.5mm cut o-ring and gently laid it down under the seal. I cant recognize that it is inside comparing with the video. Just need gently with small but not sharp screwdriver position it under the seal around by pushing and moving.

A true design flaw, im also concerned about the litle dent in the middle of the top section where surface is sealing on the dispenser.
I bought one new and I'll also try your method ill report back the results. It's a great idea you had 👍

I also bought a new one but it was the same. Only the o-ring add method worked for me. Looking forward to hear from you soon!

@@saggiogufo yes it was same with the new door. So I followed precisely your technique and it worked nice ! No water getting in or no liquid escaping before ! I couldn't find an O-Ring wide enough so I used two smaller ones that I cut off. Tore was 3.6mm so this is a good thickness.
Also being curious if the problem didn't come from the plastic lever (plastic) releasing the door when actuator is powered. Since this is plastic contact both surface could wear (on the dispenser and the door) resulting in less force applied to properly seal the door.
To conclude this experimentation I'm willing to buy a new dispenser unit and check if brand new it is sealing properly or if it's already flawed.
      I'll update when I'd tested.

      Update!
I received the whole new bsh detergent dispenser and guess what...
Same problem! I noticed one thing they changed between the 2018 version and the 2023 (production date embedded on material) the little dent on the sealing surface I've mentioned, they put it to the left side (facing the dishwasher, so the right facing dispenser) instead and made it pointing downwards preventing liquid getting it in that spot 😮 really interesting. For the rest its the exact same. I measured with a caliper every aspects of it and found no difference.. of course liquid's leaking like on the video.
I'm so so surprised they've put the dent elsewhere but didn't done anything for the water ingress issue..

Hi, can we claim warranty for this defect?

Hi, I think that you can try, if your dishwasher is still under warranty!

Hi SangNguyen, I encountered the same issue with the Bosch Serie 4 model. Were you successful in obtaining warranty support?
