- In this video, I finally share what player I use to play my CDs. It's the Hitachi DA-1000 vertical CD player from the early 80s. It's one of the first early CD players and is the first vertical CD player made. I hope you enjoy! :)

You should do like a Q and A. Would love to know how u acquired all this rad gear, how u maintain it, if u plan to add more… things like that. It’s really impressive!
She sure should... awesome system she has
That is the coolest CD Player. God knows the audio they made at that time is incredible
I completely agree!
I dumped TikTok because of the privacy issues, so I'm super glad that you are on RUclips, Geraldine. Enjoy your content, you're so smart and nice. Thank you
Ah thank you so much!!
You are so right, Geraldine: that CD player opening and closing is pure art, so satisfying to behold. Awesome piece of gear. Thank you for showing it.
Id have a good giggle watching you watch the cd player open and close all day 🤣.
haha 😆
Your smile always makes my day. And great CD player too. What an awesome machine. 👌🏻
Thanks!
@@geraldinehifi Make more videos please. Your energy is amazing. ☺️ Subscribed btw. 😉
That is the best looking CD player, i wonder if they could make something like this today. I am certainly do prefer the old way of playing music, but, it is great there are so many options today, each to their own. ❤️😊
I’ve wanted one of these for years. It may be the only thing I still crave to own
Love the Hitachi CD player and your setup is insane!
This piece is so dang rad! So are you! Loving the content!
We sold that Hitachi CD player back in '83 at Crazy Eddie's (along with the Technics SL-P10 and Magnavox 1000). It was the very first units sold in the states, but unfortunately none included remote controls or a better sounding DAC. The vertical loading was rad innovative eye candy design that brought in lottsa customers. Nice review.
Also these older units, cannot play cdr
This is a nice machine. I love the style of it and the large buttons.
Awesome work! So cool. You’re a natural!
This is awesome! I just read about this player and decided to look it up here on RUclips, you video was the first to come up. I love how it looks and works.
Very nice CD player, looks great and I think sounds perfect. Thank You for interesting video!
So you're the one behind all the amazing Insta videos I watch!
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Geraldine! 👍👍👍👍👍
I have a 1993 JVC 5.1 120wtt system and it is still playing . You really honed in on some nice pieces of music art.
Wowsers! So cool. I'm a CD collector. Great piece of 80s tech. Watching from London UK.
I'm glad I came across this channel, I'm just getting into vinyl. This cd player is great and if I ever come across it in Canada I gotta grab it up.
Your have the best vintage audio equipment!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Wow, thank you!
The coolest CD player!! 👍😎
such a sick component!
Hi geraldine, I liked that video please share us more like this.
Great to see you showing your vintage DA-1000. So glad we got ours working using the door repair kit about 30 years ago.... You've prompted me to get it out of storage and connect it up. Thanks
That is awesome!
Thank you for this awesome video!! Most importantly your Book of Love CD brings back so many good memories, I almost forget it ever existed!! I can almost hear her singing, “I touch roses…” in the background. Thank you😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome CD player 🤩🤩🤩
Nice channel, congratulations !! Beatifull Staff (machines) you find !!
Wow you have all the good vintage stuff in that lil room

Hi! I saw your Instagram reel on this and now I follow on IG and subscribed on your YT. Great content and Great Gear!
Awesome! Thank you!
I love your videos
You're wonderful!
I still have a discman sitting on my bureau from the 90s. That’s really cool.
Ufff, hermoso equipo!
Saludos desde Argentina!
Nice job. ❤
Thanks! 😊
You sure have some nice equipment. I have my eye out for Toshiba's 1st cd player. That Hitachi piece belongs in a museum
I hope you find it!! :)
39 years old amazing technology 😮😮 I was not even born
Wow very nice
Hitachi made some great MOSFETS in the 80’s. They also made some amps model Lo-D HMA using the same FETs used in the Tandberg 3000 series amps.
Must be cool to live in a country where its easy to find these equipment. Here in Brazil you dont find anything good and when you find its really expensive. By the way, nice CD player.
If possible, I would love to see more cassette videos.
I remember them when new , I had the Philips cd100 at the time
Holy crap, I just found your Insta like last night, and I saw this, immediately want one for myself, and I found 2 today, but needs for repair
This is really sweet. I'm sure the laser is decent quality also. Nice kit indeed.
It is! 😀
I Regret Selling My DA-1000 it's such a futuristic looking cd player 💿
Lo quiero!!! Lo necesito!!!
I have to have this!
I just gotta chime in to say that location indicator is just impossibly cool
Looooooove Hitachi gear
You got a beautiful equipment
Bravo :-)
Thank you very much!
Excelente tu equipo de CD, genial, nos suscribimos desde Chile. Saludos fraternos.
Saludos y Gracias! 😀
I have never seen player like this 😳
This CD Player looks like it can heat a meal in under two minutes :)
Kyocera made them. Branded as Hitachi, AKAI, and a few more manufacturers.
Just like CEC was the manyfacturer of many TT's.
In short: Hitachi ordered them, Kyocera manufactured them with their faceplatedesign.
Wow awesome video! I'd like to know: how did you get it? is it used? and how much it cost?
This eject mechanism is waaaaaaaaaaaay too cool. Not your usual drawer! :)
The location indicator is cool; I’ve never seen something like that before
I love watching it!
The problem is that early CDs were shorter in time the later CDs had 80 minutes of audio and the locator max was 60 minutes .
Nice player though, I bought one in Autumn 1983 and still works perfectly. 😊
I love that CD Player. Everything about it, it still looks so nice.
What does it sound like? I wonder what it's D/A converter is like.
I never knew Garfield loves audiogear art too
Member Techmoan's Technics CD player? The early ones had style instead of being hidden away without windows.
i have hitachi da 6000cd player very good cd player😀
I can picture you in 10 years with a badass vintage plus contemporary HIFI system that will blow your future spouse away:)
omg you have a DA-1000. Tha's rare, congrats.
Интересный комбайн!👍
Thank you!
I just bought a defective Sony 101 player, which was the first one ever commercially available... the ones that work are too expensive, so maybe I can fix it :) I want to see just how good or crap it sounds, compared to a modern CD player. I like to remember that the Techmoan channel explained that Sony showed the first pre-production models with a vertical CD arrangement, which was copied by the other manufacturers. But then Sony released to market with a tray, which caught the other manufacturers by surprise and it took a while until they changed their design as well.
Love you videos! Your system is all around awesome. Your Aiwa F-770 cassette deck is my favourite part of your collection. Just beautiful. Did you have it serviced, or did you find it in working condition?
Awesome, thank you! The Aiwa F-770 had to be repaired/serviced 😀
HITACHI THE BEST
I have a bang and olufsen cassette player with a polished aluminum housing.
Nice!
@@geraldinehifi I cant remember the model but i think its the becord 7000 and I got a tape deck installed in a modern 2014 car loads of fun
Hello friend I'm here from tik tok, I'm afraid to inform you that you have a lot of work ahead of you. I want to know EVERYTHING about your setup. Starting with the wood cd organizer.
I'm planning on showing a lot of stuff on here!
@Geraldine, where do you find your vintage hi fi equipment at?
Top
I follow you on instagram, I think your collection is amazing. I'm starting a small collection of vintage electronics, I own 1 SHARP vhs, 1 PANASONIC NATIONAL vhs, 1 TECHNICS tape deck and 3 electric typewriters (canon, sharp and panasonic). greetings from Brazil.
Thank you! That's so cool, I hope you find some other neat vintage things!!!
what technics amp is that. Just above your shoulder? I really like those older sa models from technics. thanks
Good catch! It's the Technics SA-600 😀
Whoa. New RUclips vid~?!
Another one coming very soon!!
@@geraldinehifi You're going to spoil me.
What they didnt tell you at the time is that the CD player would probably last longer than the actual CD;s. CD rot has taken about 3 of mine until I digitally archived my 900 CD's to lossless ITunes library backed up over 3 separate HDD.
PDO UK discs? All my disc rot has been from that CD pressing plant where they forgot to put lacquer on the top surface allowing the metal to oxidize and get pinholes and eventually peel off.
Geraldine, are there any other vertical cd players like this you'd recommend if we cant find this model?
Sony brought out a one more recently called the CMT EX 1. Its easier to find and a lot cheaper but still pretty expensive. Not nearly as goodlooking as this Hitachi but still a vertical cd player that looks better than your standard loading tray ones.
Modigliani!
It is a bit weird to see that the location indicator doesn't get past the 60 minutes mark... while it's true that most CDs of that era were under 60 minutes, from what I know the design capacity of the CD has always been 74 minutes from day 1 (there is also the famous Beethoven's Ninth Symphony story about it!)
You're right, I didn't even notice lol!
Fabulous 😊 Where I can buy this fine device?
online is probably were u will find one!
@@geraldinehifi Thanks but Where you bought your device?
how does one find a DA-1000? its so hard to find one on the market
I got very lucky with mine! 😀
still in box?????
is it able to read CD-R?
Unfortunately, no
Does it read cdr?
Nope.
Does it even sound good?
meh.. these sounded harsh and one-dimensional
I have never had good equipment.
Zety by włożyli do niego kiełbase bo myśleli by że to piekarnik😂
you.. are a cool chick..
now that i think about it.. you should check out the Mitsubishi LT-5V.. another cool 80's tech.. was lucky enough to find cheap one local.. and i repaired it.. rare turntable..
check my video in nikihifi
Is this your dad’s stuff?
cause there’s no way someone your age would be buying all this high-end stereo equipment
Cool CD player, it kinda reminds me of a microwave oven...
Why did you not play a CD..WTF..👋👋🤡
CD's? So disappointing......
Hitachi da 1000 looks like a microwave and sounds like one.
Terrible sounding player.
Interesting design.
The sony cd 101 is better sonically albeit meh design wise.
