I’m a black female in my 40s and I was raised this very way. I didn’t realize it wasn’t normal until I went to lunch with a female white coworker and she saw my reaction when a cop was behind me . My first instinct was to setup straight turn down the radio and make sure I had my identification. she laughed. They have no clue of the things we deal with.

@@sweet_jen7752 lots of differences in you; a white woman and a young black man. I'm not sure if you understand how problematic it is for you to even attempt a comparison. When you get ready to get in your car do you have to think about your hairstyle and how it might make you a target. Have you ever been pulled over for a traffic stop and been dragged out of the care and violently patted down. How many people do you know on a personal basis that has been beaten by a cop. Have you ever stared at a beautiful, interesting person and thought, oh I better not because they were of a different race. Have you ever heard of someone who was killed or jail for decades because they did. I could go on and on but I just wanted to give you a few examples of how your existence as a white woman is worlds away from a young black man.

There’s been countless incidents of unarmed black people killed by cops fo the color of they skin. We taught our 3 a version of this starting as soon as they could play outside. Then added on to it as they grew up. My oldest 2 graduated from UC Berkeley (one now works at Google and the other is about to attend law school), and when they visit us we've added on NO jogging through the neighborhood. We are the only African American in our neighborhood, and many new people have been moving in. The last thing we need is for someone to call the cops about a black man looking suspicious for running in the neighborhood. With our teen daughter when she's out with friends I tell her to NEVER pick up things in the store unless she's going to buy it. As the only black girl among her friend group being singled out when something goes wrong will be a given. We live smack dab in the middle of "liberal" SF Bay Area suburbia, and STILL have to teach our kids this

And he often times look at me in confusion when I tell him that I don't want him doing some of the things that his caucasian friends do. I have to explain to him that when they do certain things it's called horse play, but if he were to do the same things, then it would be considered criminal. This is the same conversation I had to have with my 10 year old son. He doesn't understand and it's sad that he can't just be a child. The really unfortunate part is that it's not the kids that see the color. It's SOME of the adults that see color and are teaching THEIR children to see color. And even when following all these rules and doing everything right, the bad ones STILL don't need a reason to judge and commit criminal acts. If only everyone had the opportunity to experience the world the way others do, I'm positive perspectives would change.

@Arcane Raven , Of course you're going to be profiled if you're a black African. You got to understand the racist mindset. As you get older and move through this world, especially in the U.S., they will consider you a double minority. And that is 1. that you're black. And 2 that you are African. Which to them means that you are black and you, and your parents are immigrants. And you heard what 45 said about African countries. That they were Sh- hole places, and unfortunately that's what a lot of racist people think about Africa, even though we all know that that's a lie. But that's their way of trying to feel superior over you. So stay strong, and never believe the garbage that they will try to feed you.

Then when certain people say things have NOT changed, others cannot comprehend what is being said because they look at the paved roads, all the comforts of modern technology, and the one I LOVE the MOST - the FIRST Black president and say those people MUST be crazy. Hi Sharon! Needed your help if you have a sec. I’m still trying to figure out why blacks predominantly vote democrat. Then I watched a Malcom X video and realized how many blacks are brainwashed into thinking they still live in the 1960s. It’s astonishing how so many compare their lives with his. It’s just not the same. Conversation desperately needs to be raised to a higher level. So do the black voting habits. I want to ask how you feel that white liberal women are walking around trying to get white men not to vote a certain way in the name of white privilege? They honestly don’t think they had more privilege than black women because of sexism. Once again, using YOU to fit their political needs. Don’t believe me? Start getting deeper with these liberal freaks! Liberals and democrats are holding the blacks back. How long is this going to go on? It’s so sad. Conservative blacks are treated like garbage. They should at least be heard not silenced. Young black men deserve to know the FACTS. They deserve to know the successes of black men! Instead of fighting the system, I fear you’ve been training your children for a political party! I’m just disgusted with leftist politics and would love to hear some black women take on this blatant white privilege in politics. Young black people deserve to hear the successes of doing the right thing. Speaking appropriately. Being respectful. Listening to authority. They deserve this chance in 2020 and beyond. Enough is enough! Please try to see this theory and test it out. I’m so sure of it. Another example. When you walk into a room with two other white people, that room becomes “diverse” in the eyes of a leftist or democrat. Whereas most conservatives will judge after the words come out. Why do you want to be equal and “diverse” at the same time? It doesn’t exactly make sense! Thanks for taking time to read. I really do care and am looking for someone to tell me why I’m wrong. Why are white women are telling me I’m racist for thinking this? Thanks!✌️

He’s learning to drive and it makes me nervous to know one day he will be behind the wheel of a car and all the obstacles he will encounter. My husband and I have to constantly explain to him that he can’t just go places with his friends and everything will be okay. He sees his white counterparts having the abilities to just be dropped off at Six Flags or the mall for the day without parental supervision. Earlier today I was taking my son out for his daily driving lesson and he had a “do rag “on his head and I was like take it off. He wants to wear his hair a certain way but my husband be like nah son people gonna stereotype you. My son is a straight A student and an awesome athlete in track and football. I was told something similar when I was a graduate student in the USA. I was also told to cross the street if the women are coming the opposite direction. This was so as not to make them feel threatened. There was a white waitress in one of the restaurants on campus who was real chatty, but I was also told to be careful in the presence of white women. I was told trouble could come regardless of whether I was respectful to them or not. So, being in the presence of white women was really stressful for me the whole four years I was there. One day a white friend offered me a lift in his car. We stopped by Walmart; I didn't have anything to do in the store so I stayed in the car. My friend went into the store, but to my consternation, she stayed in the car. A police officer parked right besides the car and asked her if she was alright. He didn't speak to me but I could just see the insolence in his reptilian eyes. His hand kept hovering over his weapon. It was frightening. He stayed by the car until my friend returned. He was all courteous to them talking about the weather and all but never once did he say a word to me. I remember sitting there my hands in my lap sweating and hoping that we would leave or he would leave. My friend and his girlfriend must have sensed my discomfort but they acted as though all was normal. Contact with a law enforcement officer in the USA is a life-threatening situation.

This is "the talk" that Black folks teach their children, generation to generation, early on given the environment. It's repeated at times as the children get older. It doesn't matter if one is male or female, or even an adult. These rules are liken to those "Jim Crow" codes actually.

I'm a white woman, who has a mixed son. We live in Canada, and although he hasn't encountered the same racism as the states, he absolutely still has up here :( I still fear for him as he's a teenager now, also just got his license. I can relate to this video so much, as much as we don't want it to be the case, it's reality and you want to keep your kids safe. I really do hope this is a wake up call to the world with George Floyd's murder, and things will change. This is not acceptable. Enough is enough. Everyone is in this together. #blacklivesmatter

Blaire Monroe I never am confusing anything. I just said I can relate to some things. Obviously not the same thing. I’m not discounting anything anyone else encounters or saying my situation is worse. I just commented from my experiences. Didn’t take away from yours at all.

I’m on your side even if I’m not black. I’m standing up with you. Jeez I see posts that people say white people don’t care, when they post that they do care, they get scolded not to comment... smh 🤦‍♀️

@Blaire Monroe it's very true but there is no place for this divide...your speaking to a mother with a son of color. We need to stop fighting or arguing amongst each other on the same side.
Let's not lose sight of the message the video is showing. The lady is simply saying she has to worry about her son just as much as you do. Can we can see that and build together for a better future.
I was given these rules at a early age also and i pray one day my nieces n nephews dont have to worry about this.

I never realized until George Floyd's death that all this stuff in everyday African American lives has to take place. Like explaining to your child the rules of how to survive out in the world when you're a black person! Such as not keeping your hands in your pockets and things like that! I think if anything can be taken out of George Floyd's death that is positive is it's making a lot of us wake up and realize how difficult life really is for African Americans to live in this country! I hope and pray that things will change in this country and throughout the world so people of color can finally feel like they have a real home in this country! and that they belong in this country because me being white I do want you all here because I think you are part of the United States and without you here it wouldn't be the same it would be depressing! We all need color in our lives because it makes things that much more beautiful! God bless!!

Well, these incidents and deaths aren't new. They've been reported on the news and social media. Many people have seen such videos and denied them as proof of what many minorities (particularly, people of African descent) have been complaining about. It shouldn't require this type of killing, and these reactions for others to feel some empathy.

What did George Floyd's death have to do with racism? George was a career criminal who never wanted to stop committing crimes and he knew the officer personally from a previous job.

Hugh Jass so he deserved to die. The thing is he was loved by many people. Put yourself in the family shoes. What if you had a family member that was committing crime would you care if your family member got killed by a black officer would you want someone saying what you said about your family member? No you wouldn’t because you loved them.

The number people dying annually in America is almost more than the people that are dying annually as a result of boko haram in the northeast (zambisa forest) in Nigeria.
