Why are people acting like he's so young. Queen Elizabeth was 25 when her father died. William has over 15 years on that. He's middle-aged, seems to me perfect age to take over.

@@krowry35 plus, all of the Wales kids (William and Kate's kids) are old enough to be in school. The oldest, George is going to be 12 years old this year. And from what I've seen, that's soon enough for him to start learning about his future whether it's his grandfather who continues to be that example or it's his father. But I do know his very first example was his Great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

hold up folks - he is not dead or dying, he has a Cancer diagnosis, he will get treatment, the best of treatment, and no doubt be back to normal asap. Yes William might have to take on some extra duties, but the Queen can do some of them. Wishing our Kings a speedy recovery, after all we have just got used to calling him King. It took me many months to change from Prince to King, as he has been our Prince all my life time. We now know the meaning of GOD SAVE OUR KING!!!
No chemotherapy for Charles , he will go the alternative route .Which does not have the horrendous toxicity that chemo has .

Ah, the voice of reason in a sea of gloom and doom. Yes the King is not dead, or dying, he can, and will get treatment, and the best in the world, and will get back to his duties WHEN he is a capable. These talking heads have him dead and buried already. He just needs time to recover, and this idea of a Prince Regent in William while constitutionally correct, is morally abhorrent, and should not even be considered. Yes William can, and probably will, take over some of his fathers duties for the time being, just as other members of the family can, such as Princess Anne, but he doesn't need the title of Prince Regent to do it. There's also another one as well "LONG LIVE THE KING!!!"
@@bushranger51 exactly. The Queen, William, Princess Anne, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh can all step in and take over various duties. A regent is not needed unless the King is incapacitated, and they have already said they will not even invoke counsellors of state. Long Live The King!

Where is Prince William? This is an urgent situation. Why isn't he making an effort to show his support for King Charles? Why isn't he speaking, offering reassurance? King Charles is ill, the next in line must make a show of support to lift the burden from his father's shoulders. I'm probably over-reacting but I'm concerned that Prince William isn't present. Plus we're all concerned about Princess Catherine as well. He doesn't seem to be demonstrating strong leadership at this time.
I was hoping that William and Cathrine would have more time to see to the raising of their children (they are still so very young!). Hopefully, they still will, but if the worst happens, they are well able to handle the responsibilities. A cancer diagnosis does not only affect the patient - it has a massive impact on the family (ANY family) as well. I wish them all well.

King Charles has been given a good prognosis and could make a full recovery and reign for many years yet.
Hopefully it will be some time before the Prince of Wales needs to step into his fathers shoes. He looked in good health when he left the hospital. Long live the King.

While all the ills you speak of are happening (I agree with you), the common folk are the ones that bear the brunt of it. These royals don't know hardship... In my small town (just over 1500 residents) around 250 are too poor to buy decent food, pay their rent or cover energy bills. I know of at least 10 (elderly) residents who don't use their heating. But... we're a small caring community and we look out for them. These (taxpayer funded) royals live in fancy residences, have armies of servants and enjoy opulence and excess.
One thing kings, queens and their offspring have learned well over the centuries is how to act convincingly. While I bear Charles no ill or malice, I'd rather give my sympathies and tangible support to my impoverished neighbours - at least they are genuine people.

I remember the King's hands hand swelling up. My Aunt had that problem and the doctor told her,she was using too much salt. Until it was too late she had cancer n it was too late to even do chemo. We just kept her comfortable and the doctor gave her pain killer. Shes gone now. Janices

William is an adult - sadly I don't think he gets a choice about whether he is "ready". Usually it's the next adult in line to the throne who becomes regent. When William and Harry were still children, that would have been Andrew (shudder). Sadly, when they changed the male primogeniture rule a few years ago it wasn't retrospective... meaning Anne still ranks lower than Andrew and Edward in the line of succession (as well as their respective children & grandchildren). Anne is currently only 17th in line so I think there is zero chance of her ever acting as regent.

Well, King Charles is 75. Six in Seven people meet their end by age 82 ( And wealthy status doesn't really help with that tho it does help add a couple years at younger ages). And about 99/100 are gone by age 90.5.

It is so unfair that Prince William's regency requires to be certified by Camilla who is not an inborn royal at all. After all, she had too much involvement to step up into Princess Diana's place. My opinion is that we need to sit back and relax a bit and wait to see what unfolds. I know that jumping on different bandwagons of "what if" are enticing to discuss, but we don't even have a full picture of how the firm will handle this. IF, and only IF, Prince William becomes Regent, he will be phenomenal and well received. No doubt in my mind. However, with that being said, King Charles is a spunky man with lots of drive - reminds me very much of his dear Mum in that regard - and isn't caving in as of yet. So very sad and surprised to hear of King Charles cancer diagnosis, but, my own Father survived almost 20 more years after his prostate cancer diagnosis before it eventually caught up to him at age 90 and ended his life! My point being, King Charles will have the very best of medical help and could survive for many more years . I would not wish on Prince William to have to take on the role of Regent with Kate's medical problems either. And his other obligations. I wish the Royal family nothing but the very best, and I am a Canuck!

Well said, the King is still Head of State and performing the Constitutional duties from home. It’s only public duty he’s stepped back from while undergoing treatment, praying for a speedy recovery and that he soon returns to full duty.
The Royal Family has other excellent councillors to rely upon; Anne, the Princess Royal, and Edward and Sophie, Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

That said, I really wish the media would back off. There is no news since the initial story broke but already some outlets have Charles buried, William on the throne, and Harry in the dungeon.

In talking about the smaller number of Royals ow left to take on Royal duties, I noticed that Prince Edward was not mentioned. In fact, Prince Edward is so seldom mentioned that he has almost been forgotten. Why is this?

He has been, he is now the new Duke of Edinburgh, though what Scotland has done to have this pathetic specimen fostered on them is beyond me.
Mainly because he is a long way down the list of successesion and always has been. Both Anne and Andrew were the 2nd line for a time, Edward (as well as being quieter by nature) was already down to 3rd when he was born and has never seemed likely to succeed to the throne or sought out the limelight otherwise. Princess Anne, as well as becoming 2nd in line when the late Queen was crowned, went on to be a decent olympian. Andrew, as well as becoming 2nd in line when he was born, has had a knack for getting in trouble and into the papers for one reason or another.
With Harry and Andrew out of the running now and not working royals the king made changes and put in place the princess royal and Edward the duke of Edinburgh as councillors of state so they can act for the king when needed. He has always been there but he and his wife chose to live and bring up their family in a more normal way

Give Charles a break and let him, as a human being, come to terms with this awful diagnosis. No knows more than that he has cancer. There are many kinds of cancer, most can be treated very well with modern medicine. The media should not speculate on the 'what if'. Are they not capable being compassioned respectful people, just wish Charles and his family all the best and a speedy recovery. Britain has more urgent issues than this to address.
