- King Charles’ cancer diagnosis leaves the royal family in a difficult position. Prince William now has the difficult decision between choosing his immediate family or the family firm.
In the absence of the King, there will be a need for other senior working royals to step up and take on more royal duties.
In this episode of Royal Insight, Camilla Tominey, Associate Editor, explains how even though “Queen Camilla can carry out more royal duties to a certain extent, she doesn’t have the constitutional heft that Prince William has as heir to the thrown.”
Camilla adds, “there is an expectation and need for Prince William to stand in if the king is unwell. For instance, concerning the Kings weekly audience with Rishi Sunak, constitutionally it would be inappropriate for Queen Camilla to fill that function.”
“Though it may be appropriate now for Prince William to say he’s prioritising immediate family and his wife over the family firm, what is that going to look like in weeks to come?” Camilla explains, “the idea that William will carry on with his own projects and only support the king a little - I’m not sure, from a PR perspective or a practical one - that it will quite cut the mustard.”

I so agree.
The last person I would want is a sibling around me who I cannot trust and is mired in an African Parks charity scandal. A sibling who hasn't denounced ENDGAME and is letting the world believe my father and wife are royal racists. The contents of a letter by the King is disclosed in a book in which brother refused to denounced, is not a sibling I need during this time. Prince William has a lot to consider. His hysterical, histrionics brother needs to focus on life in California and handling African Parks eco guards..

William might be appointed as Regent at some time in the future, it is what happens when a monarch cannot fulfil his duty.

Don’t know why prince William needs to pick. There is his job then there is his family he can do both just like many men the world over. Princess Catherine’s family are also there to help, I think these stories about William having to choose is ridiculous and would put a lot of pressure on him. I understand the desire that everyone might have for Harry and William to make up, but I know of two situations from families where it just couldn’t and didn’t work out. Not just because of “words”, but more like someone who would be willing to “hurt” the other every chance they’d get. - and did. Sometimes people are born with “something” just not “right”, and one must accept it or perhaps serious harm might befall one. Unfortunately it does happen, and it’s important to take note. That said, we must choose to forgive each other in order to heal the rifts and cracks of interpersonal family history. Frank discussion, perhaps intervention is needed. I disagree the most badly affected is firstly The Queen, it her husband and queen Camilla is still doing her public duty aswel, at 76 it's a lot to take on as the queen is now heading the family!! I think it could be time for consorts, especially the Queen to do more of monarchy duties, while the King is unable, and princr of wales want to look after his wife which is right.
